#1 Re: Main Forum » The plan moving forward? » 2022-01-23 09:39:25

I hadn't played the game or visited the forums pretty much at all since the start of the first lockdowns and so far the only positive change I've seen is that there are now more people who are calling Jason out on the bullshit he's been putting forth for years; even before all the wildfire stuff and COVID.

Been playing the game again for the past two weeks or so and remembered why I fell out of love with it pretty fast. All the things people had been complaining about since implementation are still there and everyone still hates them (eg race restrictions to force "trade"), and Jason still just keeps making excuses as to why he can't take them out. Although at least this time he's finally choosing external factors to blame it on instead of being a conceited asshat who just repeats how much experience he has with game design over and over so therefore he doesn't have to consider any suggestions from paying customers lol.

I really really really wish we could have gotten a game even remotely similar to what was promised at launch, or what ANYONE in these forums has suggested over the years that would be an improvement over this. I still like the game.... kind of.... It just feels unfinished. Feels like if you start reading a really good book and realize someone tore out the second half of the pages. Like what I've seen is so promising it just never goes anywhere.

I dunno, y'all. I'm sad and rambling. I was hoping to come back to a better game, but the game can't really grow with Jason at the helm and it's just a real shame. Still love the community though! I missed you guys!

#2 Re: Main Forum » Idea - Seasonal Crops and Clothing » 2020-12-02 22:47:50

I like this idea in concept, but imagining how hard it would be to explain that mechanic to new players has me shuddering lol.

Stuff like this makes me wish there was an Expert Mode or something though. For all these cool suggestions that are really neat but super impractical. Unfortunately the Expert Mode itself falls under that category hmm

#3 Re: Main Forum » How to solve the Noob apocalypse, How to retain players! » 2019-11-20 15:05:36

I think you're forgetting that Jason is more concerned with gate-keeping what is considered a "real game" than making his content accessible or fun. This is the guy who called Minecraft's creative mode a "toy" and didn't even want to put a tutorial in this game to begin with. I'm sure he'd argue that having the option of single player or an Easy Mode would ruin the integrity of the game by some arbitrary definition.

That said, as a moderately experienced player, I'd STILL want this option available. Not because the game is too hard for me these days, but just because sometimes I want a more laid back experience. As many vets have said, it's annoying to always be forced into whichever role is most necessary for town survival rather than being able to choose what you'd have fun doing in a given life.

Anyway, point is this is a good idea!

For sure. Somethin like "You should be careful as a woman cuz you could get babies at any time, so you have to be prepared for it."

I.e., if you're a woman, you shouldn't walk outside all by yourself; getting attacked is most definitely your fault for being careless. Very realistic and such. Tiny big yikes

Are you #MeToo-ing the wolf?

Yes except I'm not trying to put this on the wolf, but on 'society' for victim-blaming instead of taking proper measures to prevent this in the first place

Everyone always seems to forget that #MeToo is about societal disregard for the source of the problem, and not about finger-pointing at random creepy/aggressive dudes. That asshole wolf is just doing what it's programmed to do. But if Jason made the effort to fix that game mechanic, the whole damn problem would be solved. With wolves, bears, boars, murderers, etc.

But that's too efficient and in the Real World, we ignore the root of all our societal problems. So fixing this game mechanic would break immersion. Or something.

#5 Re: Main Forum » Specialisation and Civilisations » 2019-11-18 15:16:01

I'm all for this. I feel like the spirit of the update is fine and dandy, but the way it's been implemented is less-than-ideal to say the least. We need changes like this one or the one that 13jonathandavid suggested in the original update post's comments.

Buffing Natives' abilities per biome while nerfing Non-Natives' is FAR more realistic (if that's what Jason is trying to emulate with this game), and also just way more enjoyable than magically losing function in your arm/hand muscles when your toe crosses the desert border.

#6 Re: Main Forum » Coming Soon: Family Specialization » 2019-11-15 14:08:29

@13jonathanDavid Good Lord, that is EXACTLY what would make this update palatable! Obviously we're all gonna keep playing whether he considers your idea or not, because some eldritch force keeps us trapped in Jason's experiments, but I really hope he eventually steers more toward the layout you provided.

I'd be high key stoked for the update if it was how you described vs what Jason actually intends to do.

#7 Re: Main Forum » Coming Soon: Family Specialization » 2019-11-15 01:42:04

Well, we all know Jason is going to make this change regardless of what his player base thinks of it, but fuck it, I'm still tossing my hat into the "This Update is a HORRIBLE Idea" ring.

Every update has been Jason saying "This update will force players to change how they play!" And then everyone does things almost exactly the same  as always, but now it's just slightly more annoying to do it. Nobody trades, despite that being the goal of most other updates. Nobody communicates, despite that being the purpose of the tool slot update. And as many have already said, nobody is going to start trading after this biome specialization update.

Personally, I prefer the multi-family towns. Especially during the Rift, because it generally made it harder to grief a family out of existence and end the world. So, I don't see it as a problem that this update will lead to a bunch of different families living in one big mega-city. However, the fact that this seems inevitable just says to me that the update is pointless at best.

But, ya know. Jason knows best, I guess. Considering input from players beyond minor tweaks would be pandering. And we wouldn't want this game to end up like Minecraft; perish the thought!

#8 Re: Main Forum » What happened to danger in this game? » 2019-11-12 18:42:01

I mostly just struggle to orient myself without the Rift, so I feel like I almost never interact with anyone from another town. Used to be I'd be born in one town, die, be born in another and be able to navigate between them based on how close to the edge they were. Now I just have no idea where anyone is so it feels like an empty lonely universe with just my own family.

I think if we just get some bell towers built it'll fix that, though.

#9 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: mushrooms » 2019-11-07 16:07:33

Absolutely love this idea! I've always felt like the mushrooms are severely underutilized. Especially as an avid (cooking) mushroom enthusiast IRL.

#10 Re: Main Forum » Coming Soon: Boundless World 2.0 » 2019-11-07 15:58:46

Oh my lord I will fucking cry, I'm so excited! I've only ever been able to experience like a week of a rift-less world and I've been starving for that life to come back one day!

#11 Re: Main Forum » Coming soon: Character skills (tools) » 2019-11-05 14:09:49

One thing that is kind of frustrating is when I use a tool and it immediately breaks without accomplishing anything but still counts as "learning" it. It's kind of fun, though, to imagine someone shattering a tool into the ground and being like "Ah yes, of course. I understand now."

In a more advanced town with multiples of most tools, it's not really that big of a deal, but when you break a shovel on a lump of poop and there are no smiths or spare shovels around, you're just kinda fucked. Especially if you already committed a chunk of your tool slots to farming or baking, so you can't even smith your own replacement shovel.

Id happily build more cars, I used to do that before everyone got mad at me, Respond yes or no

I want the Rift experiment to reach some kind of conclusion so Jason will be satisfied with the data he has collected and we can all move on to something better.   Since the stated goal is "oil depletion" and building more cars would help to accelerated the process ... yes, I want to see people building more cars and using them as much as possible.

It is the most efficient path to freedom.

So is our new goal as a society to just waste as much oil as possible so Jason can find a new, fresh way to torture us all?

Yeah ... I loved the sense of community when I fired up the oven to bake a huge batch of pies and suddenly four or five people came together to help me bake them off before the oven cooled.   Or when I was forging iron and someone helped move the bars without being asked.  People would see what needed to be done and decide to help, spontaneously.    Not because they were forced by artificial restraints or because I went around the village begging for their assistance.   They helped because we were all working toward a common goal and we wanted to get there together.

It was a nice feeling.

Yeah, I've only had this game a couple months, but I DEFINITELY feel like there's been a pretty steep decline in cooperation since the tools update.

I get that it's a work in progress, but I hope the lack-of-cooperation solution can be worked out another way because I honestly hate the limited tools. A lot.

#14 Re: Main Forum » Anyone else hate this new tool update? » 2019-11-01 16:10:06

I'm honestly not a huge fan of the update, but I think if the overall play style adapts to prioritize training/teaching and organization/communication as Jason intended, it might end up being an improvement in the long run.

Problem is, I struggle a LOT with changing up the way I play a game once I have an effective approach, so I end up being part of the problem by not putting enough focus on communicating with the town or teaching my kids. I get focused on whatever task I've decided to dedicate my life to, and just keep plowing ahead with it even if it ultimately worsens my game play experience.

As a concept, I think it's really cool to see the game change and watch how all the players adapt to those changes, I just wish that I was a lot better at being an active part of the adaptations. sad

I should start doing this. I've always known that it's more efficient to breast feed for as long as possible, but it just didn't seem like something most people were doing and I generally just go with the flow.

Definitely makes more sense to just keep breast feeding when possible, especially if there's a baby boom and you can't get anything done anyway without having to drop it and go clothe Baby #7.

#16 Re: Main Forum » Donkeytown mechanics » 2019-10-30 14:05:21

I fell victim to a griefer accusing a good guy. Still haunts me to this day. Although in that case, the griefer ran in saying "Help! My mom's trying to kill me!" and then their mom came in with a bow and arrow and shot me, so I cursed her.

But then she explained that she meant to shoot her griefer daughter and ran around getting a medic to heal me and apologized like a thousand times. So yeah I basically felt like an ass. Moral of the story is even if you're the one getting stabbed, if there's a chance they were trying to stop a griefer, wait before you curse.

I can't speak for those other door-removing people, but I know in my case, it's usually just that I'm an idiot who forgets I'm holding a knife and tries to open it, knife in hand. So then I just fuckin cut it off the wall on accident.

My sincerest apologies to everyone who has had to put up with my dumb ass in your town.
