Edit: I was eaten by an actual bear that wandered into town. I thought that he was one of us but I was mistaken. Thanks Phate for being my Bear mother.

You bet smile That bear ate me later too sad

But yeah you were special, the human among the bears.

Its weird to think the human being born was the oddity.

I played a little as soon as I found out about this server.
I was crowned as a King at birth in the major settlement, but didn't last long thanks to my noobishness.

Made a yt about it while I played again the next day but game crashed a couple times doing so.
Fixed that and then was glad to serve as a water fetcher in the same place. Lasted to old age and was happy enough with the experience.
(I haven't played too much of the game itself because I know I can't do a whole lot no matter how much I try to absorb from reading/watching others - and I don't want to be a burden, regardless of the server).

Tried again tonight on my first proper twitch stream. Had a great time even though I didn't see a major settlement until the end - nearly three hours in. Didn't get quite that same loving caring thing I had previously but still got a lot out of it.
As I say, I didn't see anything major until I was old in my last life - my child Bear showed me to a large town. But devoid of people.
It's all changed very much. In the space of a couple of days.
Oh well. I lived until old age, streaming with some good folk and giving birth to bears...
At least on my screen. Here's proof:

Is that a bug just on this server? It was weird but I got used to it. Raised a few bear kids, and as I say, one came back to fetch me in old age. They were all named 'Bear'.
Love all you all Bears!

Hey, I'm from that town north of where you were living.  Was watching part of your stream when you came up there.
My other friend dropped you off that water pouch as a good will gesture.
Thanks for cleaning up the remnants of our bodies smile

Norgg decided to combat the trolls,

All players now have the right to Bear Arms.

#4 Re: Main Forum » Chill out server » 2018-03-11 11:37:04

Its not impossible to deal with, its actually easier due to the settings on this server, there is always a group of pro people hanging around with a stashed knife and bow
to deal with the kids that were molested and take it out on the internet types.

What that guy said ^

I have Windows might as well use it.

#6 Re: Main Forum » Please remove PVP » 2018-03-11 04:47:33

There is a troll problem that is for sure.

I don't understand why they just kill players?

Why not empty all the pounds?

Why not kill the non-family rabbits?

Why not pick the milkweed early?

Tons of other things to ruin the game that last much longer than just killing a rando.

With people like this it makes you start to not care about the next generation that much, so
might as well be selfish cause you are probably going to have a troll show up and ruin everything anyways.

If the goal is to advance society, these people are there to cause the opposite, so why even try?

#7 Re: Main Forum » Female/Male Imbalance » 2018-03-11 04:43:21

It use to be fun being a female before the patch, now its such a burden.
I mean before the patch I would literally raise all ten kids, and often when food was thin,
go live in the wild near bushes to raise the kids without hurting the town's supply.

But now, you literally get to pick one or two kids to let live, and the rest die.

Sucks from a game play aspect as the mom and as the new baby now.

The fun of being a mom has been sapped out of the game, as you can't raise you kids,
you have to constantly be working as they sit by the fire.

#8 Re: Main Forum » BAD Update » 2018-03-10 10:08:25

Right, but making a shovel in time without having to starve half the new kids to death is sort of the issue.
It seems I was able to get a small village going, but it was impossible to have more than five people with half
making food, so that only one or two gets to craft.  Which is fine, but making the iron is you need in time is tricky.

He just said he reversed the setting for how fast you get hungry, back to normal (eating bonus back to 3). I will try it again today to see how new changes to farming work without increased hunger

Although that did help, it does nothing to deal with finite amounts of soil on the map.  You do not want to build a city,
you need to roam around, the longer you sit in one spot, the less soil there will be for the next generation.
And you really need to only keep like one or two kids and let the rest die, otherwise the drain on food negates the
ability to craft advancements and hopefully you can get a trash pit up fast so you can get more soil going, cause
after its gone in a region, you are pretty much SOL on that town and have to move to another area to do it all over again.

#10 Re: Main Forum » BAD Update » 2018-03-10 00:16:05

After playing a full life in the new patch now, it seems farming is a bad idea.

UNLESS you have someone grab seeds so you don't seed up your carrots, so the soil is renewable again, farming is mostly pointless.

Otherwise you are depleting the area of soil, and might as well be cutting the milk weed while its early, cause it has that same effect.

I think I'm taking a break from the game for a while until its re-balanced, I don't like having to starve all my babies and explain to them why I have to do it.
Mostly what drew me to the game was being nice and teaching others, but now there is no time to do that, just starvation for most, and slim survival for the rest.
And if that was the goal, well done I guess.  Would be nice to have a flourishing food supply so we can play with the new items in the game, but good luck finding time to do that now.

#11 Re: Main Forum » Suggested feature: Photo Albums to represent a life lived » 2018-03-09 23:13:13

I think you could just do that manually with screenshots, and post threads about it, people would likely read it.

#12 Re: Main Forum » BAD Update » 2018-03-09 23:07:17

The good news is due to mass starvation,
you will no longer see random trolls coming in destroying your flourishing community.
Mainly cause they starved to death, and you will also not flourish.

#13 Re: Main Forum » Item stacking » 2018-03-09 23:05:36

Now seems like the proper time for this message.

Please, if you eat rabbit, walk far away from town and drop both bone piles, don't toss them on the ground in town.

(This message brought to you by the OMG There is too much crap right here commission)

#14 Re: Main Forum » should your age determent your roll? » 2018-03-09 10:34:57

Sure, kids fetch baskets of berries, the further from the town the better.
Their tummies are too small to do much else.  When they get bigger, they should get water and soil or seed.
And only in the later ages should one start crafting things I would think.

Woman pretty much have to do the baby thing, but now with the changes, you gotta let many more of them die.
You have to literally only keep like three or you are doomed.  Two boys and a girl is a good combo, as long as the girl survives.
And in the later ages, women can craft and do more advanced things, but the second they start having babies, they aren't going to stop.
So if you raise just a few well, and apologize to the ones that will die, you are freed up to do a bit of helping yourself.

So its not just age that is a factor in what jobs you do, but also gender.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Thoughts on new March 8th, 2018 update » 2018-03-09 10:32:04

The one thing that is incredible is how many things were added to the game.

Does this mean there is now an ice biome?  And if so, does that mean the city maps are now out of date? Or are these in extreme remote "off the known world" type locations?

I can't imagine a penguin living in any of the four existing biomes.

#16 Re: Main Forum » Priorities » 2018-03-09 04:47:37

Scratch all that, get a bow and arrow first, if you get well fed and things are going well, some rando will show up with a bow and kill off
your whole family in seconds.  After you got that on hand, then do the other things.  Cause preparing for the future starts with
stopping the trolls more than making sure the next generation has a better life, because more often than not,  if you are doing well
and everything seems fine, that is when they strike.

#17 Re: Main Forum » [Suggestion] Birth Defects/Disability » 2018-03-08 21:13:49

It's already in the game.
Half the time a born baby will exclaim "Rheeeeeee!" and run off into the distance to die.

This isn't actually lag, but instead a server-side bug that I'm in the process of tracking down and fixing.

I've been calling it the "bouncing forever" bug.  It's a hard one to catch, because it involves some kind of interplay between client and server.

I've recently received some recording files that show this bug in action, so hopefully I'll be able to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for the update!
Any info about the invisible player thing?  Its like ghosts man, scary stuff, lol.

They can hear you, but you dont see their resposes, just like howe their model is invisible the text too. At least, once a guy was talking to me, claiming im invisible to him etc(was moving around baskets, what he was able to see).

Thanks for the confirmation, I usually tell them "I can't see you and I can't see your responses, but ..."
and go ahead and tell them stuff as if they could hear me, glad to know it wasn't for not.

It'd be okay if the water in the pond(s) got lower and lower over time so long as they didn't run dry before the Eve died.  Then they can refill as the farm lays idle for a while, until the next wandering Eve needs it.

You might already know this, but very useful info here.

If you find an empty pound or accidentally empty it yourself,
put water back into it, and it will start refilling automatically again.

+1 have some friends i want to recommend the game to, but would be weird not being able to play with them to show them the ropes.

I've had times where my mother got too old feed me and I starved before she realized. I normally get an "oh shit" out of them before  I die. I recently found out that you can babies regular food so it's all the more painful when I starve to death in a huge carrot field.

On about five occasions, I see this happen, either as the mother, or as the grandpa, and rush off to find food to feed the baby if possible, especially if its a female
for lineage reasons.  One time the mother died picking up a baby, and i fed her until she could feed herself.  Feels good man.

#23 Re: Main Forum » Can we have a dead baby counter? » 2018-03-08 09:17:46

At the rate its going, the memorial that would need to be built for the amount of dead babies would be bigger than the game world.
Which is what, 10 times the size of Jupiter something like that?  According to a video I saw Jason interviewed in on ewetube.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Have a second hidden food bar, call it the 'over eating' bar if you want, but player can't see it. It only fills up with the excess beyond what your normal food bar can carry. It decays back to 0 a lot faster than your main food bar, which means anyone who normally only eats when they're actually hungry will never be at risk of this hidden bar filling up. Even if you eat food when you're only sorta hungry wouldn't hurt you.

If they do fill up the hidden bar, you could display a warning, maybe, though I have a feeling that there shouldn't be one to avoid them gaming the system. Like, you'd really have to be intentionally stuffing your face as fast as possible to trigger this. But, if you ate something else within a few seconds of filling the over eating bar, you'd die, cause of death 'over eating'.

They know what happened to them and why. The game didn't force them to stop and give them a 'you can't do that' message, it was totally their choice to continue and suffer the consequences.

This is a good idea too, its common for people to eat a berry when in transit while having other food with them to save the better food for the journey's end.
So it shouldn't effect the normal players at all, I think maybe the lack of an indicator that you are over eating is even better, that way they don't know what the
limit is and just push the envelope, eating however often they can absolutely get away with when doing this.

Good idea!

I like hearing everyone's responses, some good suggestions I think!

I like anything that has a self-limiting nature.

So absolute +1 to food limits

Note: It doesn't have to __kill you__. <-----------

In Space Station 13, being "overfed" means you: Move slower, vomit up extra food, and/or simply cannot feed more. (Message says "You absolutely cannot stuff any more food down your throat.")

Also, constantly overeating actually makes you fat in SS13. Which would be a cool mechanic to add to the game. People who don't eat enough constantly will get thinner, and people who OVER EAT will get fatter. Also, it means people who are constantly over-eating SHOW UP TO OTHER PLAYERS which means people will immediately notice glutteneous players who are a threat to the village/tribe! That's probably a real-world societal / evolutionary reaction!

That's not a bad idea either, maybe even better than death.  Because if there is a limit, they will just find it out, and keep eating, maybe even secretly carrying away baskets this way,
bringing them back empty.  I mean sure passers-by often do that when things are rough, steal a few carrots.  But yeah if you over eat, the problem is a few seconds later, you are
hungry again, so I don't know how you could totally balance it without it being a tactic normal players use or something, unless like you said, you did a de-buff effect, thats not bad.
