Chill out server

I've set up a server on new.norgg.org with the hunger rate set to about half the default for people wanting to learn the game in a less hectic setting, or just play in a more relaxed way.

I enjoy how the core game is balanced myself and find a lot of  enjoyment comes from the frantic struggle to survive while also desperately trying to teach others how to, but I also know that's not for everyone and think it's worth providing a less punishing option for those that want it.

To join, you'll want to edit:

settings/customServerAddress.ini to contain: new.norgg.org
settings/useCustomServer.ini to contain: 1

There's not really much I can use to prevent griefers in the game so far, but can people try to keep this server newbie friendly? If it becomes too much of a mess of griefers/etc I'll have a look at what can be put in place for doing some moderation.

Re: Chill out server

Nice, Norgg, sounds chill indeed. I just bought the game, tried going in mostly blind. Did awfully till one life, I was a male and made a skirt while subsisting on carrots. But then I died (age 26) on top of a carrot seed, so I think the skirt just disappeared... RIP my only real contribution. A slower pace to learn is definitely going to be helpful (or, y'know, just a couple hours on the wiki).

Re: Chill out server

Got to say that this server is a godsend, it finally gave me a chance to craft some items I don't normally focus on crafting without popping out kids every 30 seconds. smile

Found a deceased persons camp and was able to quickly build a fire and get get sewing.

Re: Chill out server

It really is like a free-play crafting mode. Perfect way to learn you way through the tech tree. I'm loving it. Working on a fence behind the big house...

I learned how to prepare dyes, so the next step is to wrangle some moulons and raise sheep in the pen I'm building! Soon we'll be sporting multi-colored wool clothes.

I'm way too excited by this.

Edit: I have to say, also, the farm work is beautiful here. The stocked carts, the carrots, the wheat, the berries, the milkweed. It's the well-tended abundant kingdom we all dream of in the savage servers...

Hey, been back up again for a bit now, that you back on it?

Not looked into moderation options much yet, but give me a poke on discord if people are back griefing again.

That was probably me. Bunch more just joined but I think the griefer is one. I need to head to sleep thought, your server kept me up all night lol, so much fun. I think the griefing could get better the more people there are. We were all at one camp, like 5 of us, so was easy pickens. But once camps are spread out more we can respawn to new camps and more work for them.

Or since it's kind of a peaceful server, if its possible, remove the items that can kill like arrows and knifes. Pretty sure the people that played last night would rather lose the arrows then be chain killed by that person lol.

It's ini files, open them in notepad and just edit the text, save/close then start the game normally.

Good point, I can probably just delete the murder interactions server-side.  Will at least make griefers have to get a bit more imaginative with eating all the food not being such a big deal here either.

Re: Chill out server

The server is a bit laggy this morning, my player got stuck when he was trying to cut down reeds in the marshy area to the left of town. Somebody might want to look for my body to recover the clothing and wheelbarrow.

Just hopped on and it seems okay for me and isn't hitting any resource limits as far as I can see. It is located in France though and if it's morning for you now I'd guess you're maybe US West coast? Might just be the distance.

Re: Chill out server

ugh, murder troll is really obnoxious in there. Might be time to hide the knives after he's logged out.

I'm taking a break because it's just really annoying to get all set up for your task just to be murdered by knife in the middle of baking a pie.

Re: Chill out server

Okay, think I've figured out how to disable murders (set deadly distance to 0 for knives and bows and arrows), shutting down the server to restart and give it a go.

Nice. He can still grief though. And it will be impossible to stop him from destroying stuff.
