Having a challenge is fun.

Being forced to work is not.

One of the worst things a dev can do is artificially make things difficult. Like invisible walls or daily "talk to this guy and in a month get a reward" quests. Challenge should evolve organically from the game, not as an afterthought because you're afraid people get through it too quickly.

#2 Re: Main Forum » How to fix the decay update (Also a small rant) » 2018-04-22 03:46:12

I agree very much except for the brother lovin'.

Slow decay to at least more than one generation. Otherwise what's the point of building things for the future generations?

Let us repair things.

Let us use broken baskets or other wood-like material as kindling.

You can also eat another mushroom. It'll set things right when it wears off.

Yup, I got it for my birthday and that's exactly what my mother did.

#5 Re: Fixed Bugs » Home Marker Glitch? » 2018-04-19 21:53:53

I just had it happen again and I believe you are correct. Guess I better be sure to set a home marker even if I am born in town.

Thanks smile

I'm not sure what happened but I was just born to a small camp. I didn't realize until rewatching the play through but a minute or so after I was born the homeslip popped up indicating that my home was southwest. So the first time I left camp to look for something I attempted to follow my home marker but ended up hopelessly lost.

When I realized I'd not likely find my actual home again i decided to follow it and see where it ended but I died before I ever reached it.

No, no! That is not the will of Fungai! Fungai wishes that we choose to obtain the Gift of Shruthi of our own free will! Do not heed the words of the Mushroom Cult for they are perverting the will of Fungai!

The Gift of Shruthi

There was once a man named Granger Jewel born to a large colony of people. He worked the fields all of his life. When he was still young he heard a rumor of the magical mushrooms of Fungai. He was told these mushrooms would give him sight beyond sight and allow him to see through the Eyes of Fungai. Granger dedicated his life to Fungai and spent many years waiting for the mushrooms to sprout in the empty soil pits by his farm.

One day when he was very old Granger was over joyed to spot a tiny white form in one of the pits. At last he had procured one of the fabled magic mushrooms. As Granger was a very responsible man and beloved community member he did not partake of the mushrooms at once but ensured his responsibilities were properly taken care of by other town members. He then retired with plans to experiment with his treasure.

Alas Granger had grown old and though he was able to taste the flesh of the mushroom he died before he could receive it's gift.

The great Mushroom God, Fungai, took pity on Granger for the man had worked tirelessly in Fungai's name and not been able to receive the benefits of his work. So Fungai sent Granger's soul back to the same town where he was born again. Fungai came to mother carrying the soul of Granger and told her that her daughter to be would be the prophet of Fungai. Born with the Eyes of Fungai and that he would spread his word through the land. He told her to name her Shruthi so that all would know that she was his prophet.

And so Granger was reborn as the prophet Shruthi. She was reborn with the knowledge of Fungai and the vision of the true world. Seeing this she dedicated her life to traveling the world and freeing the children of Fungai from their soil prisons so that others may partake of them and Know the Truth with the Eyes of Fungai. But this task would take Shruthi more than one lifetime. She was born again and again, with many different names and in many places, but always with the Eyes of Fungai and the knowledge of her life as Shruthi. She knew her mission and she continued with it.

Then many reincarnations later Fungai decided that Shruthi had done her job, and done it well. He allowed her to be born again into the town where Granger had uncovered the first mushrooms. It was here that Shruthi chose to partake of the mushroom's flesh for the first time since Granger had died with it upon his lips.

Not long after Shruthi lost the Eyes of Fungai and saw the world as others could see it. But from that moment on she could partake of the mushroom and see the world through the Eyes of Fungai whenever she wished. When she needed the knowledge the Eyes were there for her to see through.

And thus we know that the children of Fungai will help us see the truth when it is hardest to find. The Priests of Shruthi continue her work bringing the mushrooms to the people and helping them to understand what they see with the Eyes of Fungai.

Streamer OniBadDog was on a mushroom quest. He finally got one before dying of old age and every life since has been haunted with horrid hallucination.

Of course he knows he could fix it but for now he's just enjoying creating a story of mushroom mystics.

Do you believe in magic... mushrooms?

If you give birth to a kid and you don't want them just let them starve or kill them. If you're feeling nice you could always say, "Sorry, can't." I'm pretty sure most people understand that you mean you can't feed them, have too many kids, are too busy, whatever. Then they can run off and find a rattlesnake to step on.

What you shouldn't do is feed them a few times before changing your mind, run them out into the middle of the swamp and ditch them.

It's a waste of time for you and them. On top of that, if you're foolish enough to waste the resources to feed them until their food bar gets bigger they'll just do what I do and run all the way back just so they can die right next to all your other children.

The most amusing thing is that when this happened last night I just respawned to another woman in the same town and he kept me.

#10 Re: Main Forum » This bothers me » 2018-04-17 15:47:20

I would assume that with the population cap being increased culling on the first few servers would decrease. It seems that with more people there would be a much lower chance of a previously visited area going unvisited.

When I was playing yesterday I respawned in the same two villages multiple times. Of course for me that means going to the outskirts and setting up a camp because I lag too hard in big villages.

Right clicking a wild onion while holding something causes you to swap your item for the unpicked onion sprite. You can then place the sprite anywhere and it becomes a wild onion again.

Yup, it's the in game equivalent of handing a knife or a sword handle first with you holding the blade.

I just recently gave myself the last name Berry. I named my kids Blue, Black, and Red. There was also an attempt at Crunch and Straw but they did not work.

Go to the server directory and create a file called serverCodeVersionNumber.txt and in that file put 73. Then run your server and it should work.

Finding an abandoned village should be incredibly rare and considered a treasure. I also find that there are two types of people. One type that is ok doing menial task for the sake of furthering the family line. The other is the type that dosent want to contribute to the bigger picture but instead wants to start their own. Id suggest adding an option to spawn as an eve or a baby. Also to stop people from suiciding as a baby to get to a better life make the baby unable to break from the holder until they are a certain age.

At which point they would probably still kill themselves. Age won't change much.

Agreed, and then you have just wasted resources raising them.

I have to say, I've been rather happy to be able to off myself sometimes. I was born to someone yesterday who said some horribly atrocious things so I jumped out of their arms and ran off into the woods. Had I not been able to do that I would have quit and frankly pressing % is too damn much work, hehe.

#16 Re: Bug Discussion » Version mismatch on custom servers. » 2018-04-06 18:59:24

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. I actually do have an un-updated client but it gave me a mismatch error too. It just gives me the current client version and Server 1 as the error.

I attempted an immediate temp login after the error as some have suggested but it keeps coming back failed. When I do it on my own server it says it's timed out.

I see some other servers are saying they are working now so I'll go try them again.

I've seen a few others mentioning this issue as well. Ever since the update, after updating both the server and the client attempting to log into a custom server gets the message "Version Mismatch. Client 73 - Server 1".

I've had the issue on my own server and attempting to log into other custom servers from the private server list.

It was recommended that I attempt to manual rollback the client but that isn't effective either and I can't see any way to change the server version.

Yeah, it didn't like Voltron, Megatron, or Lion-O. Meg worked well, though, since Megatron was a girl and the kids seem to remember their full name regardless of what the game names them.

#22 Re: Main Forum » The SHEEP Problem » 2018-04-02 18:44:31

Take shears to them. Once they are shorn they tend to be easier to herd. Build a pen and lead them into it. Or just make a knife and get yourself lots of sheep skin for saddles.

Hopefully we'll get to tame wolves for sheep dogs at some point.

#23 Re: Main Forum » Writing is an important and hard thing to begin and learn. » 2018-04-02 17:55:20

Well our first form of writing should just be pictures. I think we could get a lot of information across in pictures.

Perhaps if we are able to start tanning hide we could use rose madder or indigo to make paint. It could work like a hot iron ingot and smithing hammer where each time you interact with those item the image changes until you get the one you want.

#24 Re: Main Forum » Murdered for the first time » 2018-04-02 17:46:03

I was actually murdered for the first time the other day too. (Well, it happened once before but pretty sure it was an accident.)

Anyway, I was born to an Eve and she was doing a fantastic job raising me. We found a little home area and were getting settled in. As soon as I turned four she had two more children. I was just getting my bearings and trying to find out what task most needed my attention when some woman shows up and stabs Mama. I would have grabbed a bow if I was old enough (There was one close by) but, alas, I was not. I hesitated only a second wondering if I could help my siblings at all but could think of nothing. I hovered my mouse over the woman wanting to get her name so I could get revenge.

Her name was Emma. Once I had this information I ran off into the wild intending to come back and hunt Emma down as soon as I was able. Then I ran into a wolf.

I was annoyed but just went ahead and hit "Be reborn." When I spawned my mother held me and said, "You are Emma."

After the last update I had the problem that the map was completely reset. That has never happened before. Was it because Jason added a new floor? Unfortunately, everything we had created was lost and gone.

I had the same thing but I think it was because of the map culling feature where things you haven't visited within 24 hours get erased when the server is shut off and on again. The official servers don't get restarted very often but if you're like me you have your test/private server on your home computer and only have it running when you are playing. This seems to cause it to be a little too eager to erase things.

Not sure how to adjust or disable this but if anyone else knows I would be happy for the information.
