Just talk to your babies, people? I mean not if you're working, but if we just standing by the fire, why not have a chat. Granted, it is a bit one-sided (I also hate trying to read sentences a letter by letter, my brain just can't deal) but unless I desperately need to work, I try to entertain my baby and I appreciate when my moms talk to me. You can talk about the village, your life there, your previous life, ask yes or no questions, or just talk rubbish... Love me some human connection.

Toys could be fun though.

Yeah my gene scored is tanking too but I don't mind and playing as Eve is fun.

#5 Re: Main Forum » Server crashes after update » 2020-06-27 13:41:28

I've been kicked off several times too. Btw interesting situation in the old Batman town rn, families of all colour have settled there, I hope it can last.

It looks also like my genetics are broken. Was Eve Kelderman and then nameless child, and then no gene reporting anymore. Maybe because of a bug?

Hm, looking at my genes, my dead daughter is nowhere to be found and only 3/5 my dead grandchildren are showing up. Weird. Also, I think I fucked up my naming my daughter first and then myself, cause my daughter has no last name. Ups.

To prevent mother overload, mothers are now blocked from having more babies if they currently have four living children.  This will allow them to focus their attention on helping those four survive.  This is a soft block, which will be overridden if all mothers on the server have more than four living children.  But in general, it should help quite a bit to smooth out the variance that sometimes saddles one mother with loads of kids.

I really like this change and the intention behind it though... I have just popped out 12 children my last life, one after another, and now I had the added pleasure of going "aaah, my older children are dead, then". I was Eve and some kids are just not gonna live in Eve camps, that is fine. My next life my daughter had quintuplets! (in an Eve camp, lol) so I guess it means quintuplets are still possible.

Also, I know this doesn't help non-English people....

But when you try to kill someone, instructions pop up on the screen explaining how many allies and enemies the person has, and how big the posse needs to be.  And your character speaks information about who can exile that person, and you get an arrow pointing to that leader.

So it's not like these mechanics are totally hidden or need to be memorized.

I just noticed that once someone is sufficiently exiled to be solo killed, there's no explanation given to the killer letting them know that solo killing this target is possible.  I'll fix that with a DING message explaining the situation.

I don't know much about code but would it be possible to create a program that would translate things in game? such as being able to choose a language and then in game seeing that language

I don't know much about code either, but I do know enough about languages to say with confidence "no, that is not in the scope of this game."

Automatic translation is very complex.  Play around with Google Translate sometime, if you want to have a big laugh.  It tries so hard and fails so spectacularly.   If Jason could work out a way to seamless translate player-inputted text between languages in real-time, he could retire a wealthy man.

I agree though I see on the Forum that there have been attempts by group of volunteer translators to translate this game, I don't know if any language got finished thoough. It's a LOT of quite demanding work though and obviously, it wouldn't help with the players speaking to each other in English.

The only bad thing that we can't often handle, is Bobo killing families with his many accounts, so cursing doesn't really help. I wish I could curse all of his accounts at once, some kind of hardware ID, so cursing would actually ban his PC for 30 days and not just an account.

Did Bobo buy this game multiple times? Is Bobo a better income source than all of us? lmao. Or can you have multiple accounts with one purchase?

my god, just follow anyone, if he is a fool you can cancle it.

There is no " just". People really dislike that - I had a lot of people rebel and say "I follow myself", rendering the town leaderless which does more harm than good. And I can't just follow *anyone*, I don't want people to have the same problem I'm having - being leaders against their will. I have asked people I watched being good and competent if the want to lead, but they never did. /abdicate would be a much more elegant solution.

In the meantime, I guess I'm just gonna go die a couple times to bring my genes down a bit, though I dislike doing that.

we have reelect now via unfollow and follow but i'd have no objections to that either.

The difference between /reelect and /follow /unfollow is that /follow /unfollow has the player choose their leader, which has been proven dangerous and a tool for greifers.

the thing is, actually using follow is not so dangerous as long as you are round to see what the person is doing.

It becomes dangerous if you are not around anymore.

So if one simply asked you to follow him without any reason, then i would be skeptical. But if there is a valid reason and if you around to look whats going on, then not much bad can happen.

This problem from the other side: I have found that my followers REALLY disliked when I tried to transfer leadership to someone else, even when I watched them closely and chatted with them and was reasonably sure they are not a griefer and competent. The rule "never follow anyone" is just really ingrained in people at this point. People trust the system, not the people.

Hi Jason. This game only cost me 20 dollars and it already paid for 50+ hours of fun so that seems like a great deal to me, especially considering the updates are free. I love this game and what it says about the human condition, about community and belonging, about trying to hold on to permanence, even though we all know nothing is forever. I also love the cute drawings.

I agree that you don't owe anyone unpaid labour, especially labour you don't enjoy. Some people are just really, really entitled.

Oh, it's not a me-problem it's a lag problem! That's kinda good to hear. Thanks. The bouncing has been happening a bit so I guess that's it.

#17 Re: Main Forum » Corn vs Wheat - BattleRoyal » 2020-06-24 19:49:33

I really I would be able to use potatoes for more stuff when I saw them in the game.

I mean, they're so versatile! Boil them, mash them, stick them in a stew...

Also: potato salad, potato cassarole, potato soup, hash browns, potato pancakes...

I seem to often not even notice I gave birth? I'm really trying to keep my eyes and ears open and if I'm a fertile woman I don't go travelling in the wild, but it still happens to me that someone comes to me with my child that I lost somewhere - "Hey, your baby" or that they just take care of it themselves and later I meet my kid somewhere and I know I didn't name them.

Or - I check out my family tree afterwards and there is a kid I don't remember.

To be fair, I've also taken care of kids that were not my own and returned babies to their mothers. My question is - how far away from you can your children spaw? Obviously I notice if it's right next to me. It's making me slightly paranoid.

#19 Re: Main Forum » Sometimes leader is not in the town. » 2020-06-23 23:03:22

I echo the /reelect idea. Had a leader recently that exiled (and tried to kill) someone for "cluttering the kitchen", ffs.

I'd also welcome a way to give up leadership so that it goes automatically goes to the next best qualified person. I just really don't enjoy being a leader - my gene score recently tanked so I thought it would not longer be a problem, but my last game the leader followed me before dying just after a brief interaction and I got stuck with leadership again.

/abdicate?

#20 Re: Main Forum » Summer and Mia the two town kingdome » 2020-06-23 15:59:50

Glad to hear that peace was made at last. I was there as Hilda Summers last night, making stew and having children as the war ranged on. Tbh I had no idea what was even going on. Could someone explain to me how "war" works, pls?

#21 Re: Main Forum » Sharing a little Story » 2020-06-20 18:15:36

Aw. Thank you for the story! I love the meaning you still found in your life even though you had no one to carry on. I'm always excited when people play this game as real human lifes, it really has incredible story-telling potential.

#22 Re: Main Forum » Anybody else not seeing ally badges? » 2020-06-19 10:20:04

That's weird. I am seeing badges for everyone, except when they not wearing clothes on upper body, as you say.

#23 Re: Main Forum » Gender lightning rod » 2020-06-18 15:52:30

SpoonWood, did you really ressurect 3 year old discussion just to disagree with Jason about everything? Lmao.

Have you ever thought you might have over-played this game? Reading your posts it honestly seems like it doesn't bring you joy anymore. And if you've been playing for over a year, I'd say you got your money worth. Why not Marie Kondo it?

Seems so. What a psychopat. I wanted to play in that town again :-(. Such a good one.

#25 Re: Main Forum » Why Do Families Die? » 2020-06-16 19:15:15

Oh right, that sounds... easy. I'm glad it is not now, but I wish I got to live in a big city sometimes. I kind of did right now in the Greathouse family, which is 80 generations long now, but it's probably gonna be gone tommorow :-(. (By the way, whoever mass produced corn, beans and squash in the Greathouse town, kudos to you. I've been able to do pop out stew like a boss.)
