"Juicy drama" is also a big part of why this game has such a small active playerbase.

Jason is a talented programmer, but his unwillingness to address the problem of unrepentant, rampant assholes in this game is frustrating.

In an ideal world, you'd have some sort of antagonist role that provides an interesting conflict dynamic. Many satisfying gameplay loops are built on this exact premise, in fact. Instead, we get this endless rotation of people exploiting poorly-implemented mechanics to be a nuisance without any real way to counter them (which the curse system is supposed to do, but is woefully inadequate). It's so fucking easy for a person to be a pain-in-the-ass in this game, and they can just keep doing it over and over.

Then people get frustrated their towns/families/work gets ruined and they quit the game, further reducing the population. The selfishness of griefers taking away other people's fun for their own amusement is gross. It's why I look down on them as shitty people, because that is what they are deep down.

Deliberate and malicious acts of destruction make the game worse.

I quit because town stages are skipped and game difficulty is out of balance. It has nothing to do with grieving, I quit because I'm bored and the game in its current state makes me feel useless. There is no more struggle to survive.

#2 Re: Main Forum » Why "Five Years" isn't really "Five Years" » 2023-07-20 21:27:04

Why don't you give grievers their own race? They are the perfect enemy. Make them a threat to our survival that comes from the outside instead of being born into our own families.  Grievers can do a lot of harm because they are born into our families. They can hide in plain sight. You wont know that uncle Bob is a griever until by chance you see him grief and then you can't even stop him immediately because you are not the leader.
If grievers with enough curses are born into a seperate race then they can do a lot less damage to our families, because they will have to work for their own survival, they will have to travel to us instead of being born inside our families, we can recognise them as the enemy. They can kill us, but we can also kill them. Let them be the bandits, let them have fun being the bad guys.

#3 Re: Main Forum » Dry Springs Confusing to Players Learning How To Play as Eve » 2023-02-10 17:17:54

Each race has their own band going from west to east. You can only have children in your band.  So if you are a ginger eve your band is at the top where the snowbiomes are, below that is a band for the white fam, below that a band for the brown fam with the jungle biomes, below that another white band and at the bottem a band for the black fam where the desert biomes are. I think an eve will always spawn in the band off their race. If you leave your race band then you'll get a message above your head and a bell sound (can't remember what the message says)

New eves spawn more to the west then the older fams. If you go to the west to find a good wellsite you will find mostly untouched ground, if you go to the east you can find old dead towns. You can repopulated those towns.

To find a springsite you need to follow the well-lines. It's a line on the ground going from west to east. You also find ironspots on that line. If you go straight up or down from a springsite then you can also find the next springsite with its own well-lines. Just make sure you don't leave your band.

A good town location needs at least two ironspots east or west from that springsite. You can have a maximum of four ironspots.
The springsite also needs to be close to a swamp biome (for pondwater and clay), best in a green biome with lots of trees and soil, nearby savannah is a bonus but less important.
The springsite needs to be fertile. You can not build a well on a dry springsite. If another fam build a well nearby before you do, then your sprinsite will become dry. Nothing you can do about that. You'll have to pack up and look for another spot.

You need to put round rocks at the fertile springsite until they form a cirkel. This will open the nearby ironspots to the east and west. If the ironspots don't open that means they are to far away or it means that someone from your fam already opend up iron spots in another location. Each fam can only open up iron spots once.

So? WTF is up with springs? I was hoping to find an answer here and it's just a long complaining post. How do springs work? The game and tech page tell me to add 2 springs together. How is that done? I also can't find any good youtube tutorials.

Don't know, I hardly play anymore. I just look from time to time if there is a steam sale, because I love the chaos of a noob-apocalypse. It's the only time I feel usefull and challenged.

#5 Re: Main Forum » No One Ever Dies In "Childbirth" » 2021-08-11 21:49:33

Mass starvation made parenting challenging. You had to choose between your children, because you couldn't feed them all. You don't see that anymore. Food is too easy.

I ship it.
The question is who will top and who will bottom.

See Jason, this is what happens when you leave us alone for to long. We get bored.

Anyone up for an apocalypse?

#8 Re: Main Forum » why do i keep getting born as an eve.. » 2021-04-17 13:12:29

I'm guessing you are stuck in the second tutorial. When you are born go straight west. If you are in the second tutorial then you should find a building with snakes and a torch not far away. Light the torch and then kill yourself with the snakes or you live out your life until you're sixty. That's how you complete the second tutorial and after you done that you can enter the game.

I throw them at a fire and watch them burn.

I played with the paver. I made it to the brown fam. But it's a bad road, going all over the place. It got wolves, boars, musquitos and one bear (his name is larry). I'm sorry for the ones that aren't gonna survive my road. I really tried.

I love a good newbie apocalypse. It's the only time that the game feels challenging.

#14 Re: Main Forum » Why The Apoclaypse is Boring Overall » 2020-12-12 16:42:26

It hardly ever happens so it's an unique experience and challenge. I still remember my first time. Didn't know what happend. Everything gone, everyone naked running for the berrybushes. It's kinda funny.

Planting berries? other foods use less water.

I'm not so sure on this exactly pein.  I think it depends on the pip value of the foods compared.  1 pip berries use less water than 1 pip carrots, since carrots need seeding, and there's only 5 carrots per plot, while there exist 7 berries per domestic plot.  Though, of course, carrots take less time.  And carrot pies use up less water than berry pies (1 carrot vs. 6 berries).  So, berries use less water than carrots for pies I think always.  Corn also uses more water than berries.  But, corn has more potential value than many foods, since skim and whole milk are 10 meals, possibly more.  Popcorn also, and other cooked foods like pork tacos if it's worth the time to make those.  Berries also use up less water than peppers.  I don't know how chips with salsa compares to berry pie.

And again, how things compare here might change depending on generation number/actual pip value of the foods.

As you know, munching the same food repeatedly takes up more water than yumming/eating different foods as much as possible... I just want to keep that in mind.

A full carrot row gives two extra free seeds. Seven seeds in total.

The twins SHOULD go to where the SECOND twin is born.

This is true for trips and quads too.  Wherever the last person is born, that's where the rest should follow.

So, with the new legacy chain code, if the last to join the group lived to old age and has descendants alive, they should all get born to one of those descendants.

Can someone test this can confirm that it's working?

Remember, it's triggered by the LAST member of your group to hit LOGIN from the FRIENDS screen.

okay, find me an autism compatible friend that can deal with being ignored for long periods of time and akward silences and I'll twin with that person.

#19 Re: Main Forum » What do you love most, about being alive? » 2020-12-07 18:20:40

Watching my daughter grow up. Getting to know her better. It is scary sometimes. She grows up so fast. She is almost a teenager. That freaks me out. I'll have to give her more freedom, more resposibility.
I'm just so glad that she still sees boy's as being icky. Thank god for that.

As a kid I really loved to take care of animals. Kittens I found, injured animals, spending time with my pets. I still like it, but it's not the same now I'm older and have less energy for it. I also loved reading books.

LMFAO! 10/10 we can still dream DOWN WITH JASON! GET YER PITCHFORKS! BEBBIES IN BACKPACKS OR RITO! How about a leash for babies that I have the option of strangling them with if they get out of line? LOL! That got dark quick I apologize.

I like the way you think. BB leashes (that you can attach to your backpack), why haven't I thought of that. We need that or the ability to eat your bb's. If those little fuckers want to run they beter have a good reason, mommy has a craving for bb backribs.

Will descendants be first in line to inherit a property gate?  Or can you give gate acces to all your decendants?

I spawned in as a ginger Eve next to an abandoned jungle town. There was a bb with me from the start. Other eve's of every race showed up at the same time. All had a bb from the start. I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen. Shouldn't you spawn in your own band?
