This is a review based on my personal opinion and experiences I had in the time i played. Before I start, i want to say one thing: I understand that this game is developed by a single hard working man. I know and respect that this game is in an early state and is being constantly changed. To make this game great, changes (even really dramatic ones) are necessary, and i admire JR's courage to experiment with them. The intention of this review is to help the developer find a balance between having to start civilizations from scratch and keep already existing civilizations going. I've been playing this game quite a lot some weeks ago. Around that time, i felt like the biggest problem was, that there wasn't much left to do after reaching the top of the tech tree and that eve's spawned too close to existing villages. This was a minor problem for me though and i believe future content updates, like the introduction of decay could have fixed that eventually. Jason has tried to fix that by resetting the servers, which was a good idea in it's core imho, but a little too drastic. The new Eve-Spawning algorithm was also too drastic. It's now almost impossible to establish a well developed civilization, for many different reasons. The major one being that the spawns are too far from existing villages. They might have been too close in the earlier stages of the game, but not by much. I still sometimes spawned in the wilderness, having to run around half of my life to find a sign of civilization. It was there. But you also could find a village if you wanted. Although it might defy the purpose of the game a little, working in&on a village you have been before was really exciting. It felt like progress. Now it seems like everybody has to start from scratch almost every life, and it feels very repetitive, since you'll end up doing the same basic stuff all over again. It's ways too hard in my opinion to find old (or rather ANY) settlements, because of the new spawning algorithm. It was a step into the right direction, but the step just feels too big. As I already said: The problem with reaching top tech tree was a minor problem for me and something like decay would have been a nice balance at that time. For me personally, the game was more fun before the apocalypse (not saying that the apocalypse itself was a bad thing), and from what i read in forums etc. I'm not the only one. All that being said: This review is solely of a constructive purpose and I wasn't complaining. I respect and value all of Jason Rohrer's measures to make the game better. Keep up the good work, and I hope i could help a little. Sry for bad Grammer :)
