Though I rather impulsively bought the game, I've never spent a better 17 pounds in my life. The charm about this game is that everybody is in the same boat; there is nobody OP, nobody who sits upon masses of wealth and food... Because the game is so unpredictable.
Each life you live is totally different to the previous one. One time you could be born into a rich village with plenty of food, another to a mother in the forest, foraging off of berries. Just when you think everything is going well, suddenly, you run out of food and entire villages die.
When you walk through the map and come across settlements, scattered with bones, it is quite sad to think that one time a huge village flourished there. Now, just a reminder of days gone by. It's honestly quite sad!
When you die, you have no way of telling of what is to come of your settlement, just that you know that your contribution now affects the entirety of the game's future. Build a massive farm now? Future generations are fed. Build walls now? Future generations are safe from bears. Help develop ores now? Future generations can unlock newer technologies. For me, it's that aspect of the game which makes it so appealing. |
