This game is absolutely stunning. It's amazing how attached you can become to strangers in just half an hour to an hour. I was born to a wonderful community, with the start of a communal house and plenty of farmland. My mother was attentive and sweet, knew a lot of things, and never got mad at me for having to learn from her. I had lots of talented brothers and sisters, and life was good and stable. Mostly I fed new kids, being the community's wet nurse, while those who knew more farmed, baked, and built. I think that if things had kept going like this, I would have died only of old age.
But I had a niece. Curly blonde hair, seemed sweet as a button. Had a side-farm out of our community for ensuring carrot blossoms could sprout. Ran off to it a lot. I figured she was checking those carrots. Told her "I love you!" whenever we ran into each other. And then she came back one day with a knife.
My Niece killed me in front of my sister, so suddenly I had no idea what had happened.
And then I was reborn, to one of my cousins in the same community. I was suddenly so scared of my niece (now aunt?) and scared of what she would do to my family, so I immediately hopped out of my cousin-mother's arms and ran for my bones, blood still dripping from them, trying to baby-speak at anyone who would listen. I would point at the bones, trying to say ME, ME. And then she came back up from behind me and said only one thing. “Murder.”
And suddenly I was dead, again, on top of my first corpse.
< br>I don't know what happened to that community. To my family. But I think the fact I still worry about them literal lifetimes later speaks volumes. |
