I remember Bobo, from way back. Yo uare all tripping over a dead game thinking you know what you are talking about. This game used to have a real soul.

#2 Re: Main Forum » “This game gives you one hour to live” » 2023-02-16 12:36:00

The game used to be much better and is now abandoned, I feel bad for anyone who bought it because of this.

#3 Re: Main Forum » Jason's Work Schedule » 2023-02-16 12:33:12

Schedule: Make game interesting, cash out, make game boring, stop updating.

#4 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion (s) For Major Updates + Goodbye » 2023-02-16 12:30:02

the game is abandoned, this will never happen. Gone are the days of mad-max style resource struggles, here are the days of not being able to do anything remotely interesting.

#5 Re: Main Forum » Central highway? » 2020-05-14 20:23:07

Intersting.

Of course, roads are so vital.

Unfortunately, whatever town bears the burden of building it is faced with a huge issue:

They lose labor force for keeping the town alive.

They lose resources easier.

There is no immediate benefit to the town at all. They are down a cart or two, food is used up, and labor is diminished, all for no real gain to the family.

It's basically griefing for the greater good.

Still, roads are simply so important.

Maybe Jason can allow multiple roads to be placed per flat stone - that would help a ton. or make a concrete recipe that has a similar effect with many uses.

Roads are so expensive.

I will contribute nothing more than saying I completely agree with the thesis ofthis post. The game is becoming more boring with all the limitations like homesickness, family resources, etc...

Come on guys, what the heck is this? It's cool and all, I'm just so lost.

Why all bad?

Note that two of the seasons have increased temperature.  Since people invariably live at like .1 or .2 temperature already if naked, I think the proposed idea would put them closer to .5 temperature for some of the time (clothes also no longer heat people above .5 as I recall... I'm using .5 for the center of the temperature bar).  So, I don't think that all of the seasons would be all bad in every single respect.  Then again, less water, so it might not be balanced.

That said, that the game changes to have multiple seasons like this I believe highly unlikely.

Oh yeah, this is not happening. But two seasons DECREASE temp... Plus make food growth slow... A naked's death sentence.

#10 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Different Seasons - not always the sun is shining lovely » 2020-05-12 21:28:25

Also, shouldn't some seasonal effects be positive?

Why all bad?

Monsoons to bring extra water.

A fall season that increases rabbit and geese populations when they are removed via hunting.

An actual spring season where plants grow faster.

---

My point is that, if you want negative effects they NEED to be balanced with positive ones.

#11 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Different Seasons - not always the sun is shining lovely » 2020-05-12 21:19:03

The LAST thing we need is for food and water to be further limited.

Increased animal populations and attacks? Sure.

Aesthetics? Absolutely, why not?

Temperature? Sure man, whatever. It would create use for closed rooms and locked saferooms/nurseries.

Once food and water start getting fucked with, I have to say a hard no from me. The food system is already fucked. Removing water from the game is insane. However, if cisterns inside rooms would not decay in heat, now we're getting somewhere interesting.

I want rooms to be more useful, and this is a good way to do it. There needs to be low-tech solutions to avoiding the seasons though. Otherwise, villages and towns are going to go extinct far too often.

High tech solutions would be cool, but as all high tech solutions are, they would be unrealistic to achieve as a one-hour member of society.

I do like the idea, but don't tempt our slavemaster/puppeteer Jason. It is already sad seeing cities and towns die, and this would just make it harder to live.

Still, I've been in some towns that are entirely inside a huge building (I remember being in a locked mega fortress before the rift experiment, maybe about a year ago. Four or five rooms with one being a big farm/nursery. I'm bad at judging block count, but it had to be at least 30x20)- farms and everything. It is super cool, and it would be great for a town like that to have an actual, mechanical advantage over the open-layout towns we see now. Most people view buildings as a form of grief. This could make them actually useful.

#12 Re: Main Forum » Newcomen tower cars » 2020-05-12 02:36:21

This would be awesome from a playability perspective.

I have never driven a car, and doubt I will anytime soon (in game).

It is at direct odds with Jason's goals. The tech tree in game should reflect the technology's actual development. I doubt this will happen. Would be useful though.

Awesome!  Thanks for sharing, I'd call that great success! Nice policy on medical treatment.  Sadly it seems to progress in OHOL we're gonna have to develop social structure and dare I say a culture.

I'd like to see jobs in town become more standardized aka a guild system.  Not in the traditional sense of a "guild" as we know it in games rather the archaic version of profession based guilds with industry do's and don'ts, apprentices, journeyman etc.

I feel like this already is a thing to a certain extent.

Smiths should know to use a round stone to hammer iron, not the hammer. Smith's know how to scrap old tools.

Farmers should know to start compost piles before the straw is turned to baskets or clothes.

Bakers should know to distribute their power among a variety of foods o boost town yum. They know not to store food in the way of the kitchen... (actually, most bakers keep all the food right in the kitchen. I don't know why food rooms are not more common - an out of the way storage room where all completed food is taken after the kitchen has made it. This would also solve the issue of bakeries being filled with mothers and babies.)

Even undertakers should know to bury the family significantly out of the way.

It gets tricky with the more abstract roles like the 'leader' or 'chief' or however you look at the person with exiling authority.

From my experience as a leader, a role I often seek out because of how big the impact of a good leader can be on tackling issues and guiding development, I find there to be a ton of unspoken rules.

-Do not think that being the leader makes you entitled to the nice shit. As a matter of fact, I often give up hats and pants to naked people when I am the leader. Don't steal from babies, or you risk being seen as tyrannous. When you give up the nicer gear to your subjects, you are often seen as generous and are respected as a result.

-consider preparing a police force - literally just a group of people with knives/bows that you coordinate with early on in life. coordinate policy for when a posse is needed so that you can save yourself scrambling together a posse later on if a threat arises (rying to get people to understand how to fight off a griefer once the griefing starts is super hard and annoying - make that the police's job if such a situation arises). Train them on the 'I will kill...' and 'I join you' commands. Come up with a system of practical loyalty between you, them, and the town. Then part ways until calamity strikes, going about regular business til then.

-When it comes to carrying out justice, being more reactive than proactive is good. Let the town grow to hate certain members on their own. Once they want them out, be ready to side with the masses. If you try to instigate an exile or a 'justice killing' you risk being seen as tyrannous.

-Avoid placing orders that are unnecessary or are only meant for a small group of people. Your most important power is your power to order. The last thing you want to do is train your town to ignore the order ping. If you are ordering it, be sure it is relevant to most people. I only use it for warnings and to introduce my successor upon my death.

-Lastly, tying into the last point, name a successor that is competent! Take 10 or 15 minutes toward the end of your life to scout out your heir. Pick someone who has been working and does not cause drama. Ask them if they are familiar with leadership mechanics. Consider taking the time to train them if you have nothing pressing to do and they are unfamiliar with leading.

There's the leadership guild! It's a lonely guild each life, but oh boy is the impact high (not to mention you get a front seat of the drama).

that would be great!

Also would be nice to have a reverse order system, so that followers can also say something back like a call for help.

like:

/shout

We would need a cooldown on /shout to prevent the leader from being spammed by requests...

Unless it was an unintrusive ping that lets the leader know their assistance is requested - like an arrow and a /yoohoo sound.

#15 Re: Main Forum » LEADING THE DOVERS - Posse issues, a griefer, and mild success. » 2020-05-10 00:41:20

Everyone is coming up with cool ideas on here.

/leader would be a great command for finding a leader.

It would also be great to have some mechanic that makes finding a suitable heir easier. It can take upwards of fifteen minutes to scout out a decent replacement.

Sounds like there are mixed results with the posse system - I think this is the rule for it:

YOU MUST INITIATE AN ATTCK AFTER THE INDIVIDUAL HAS BEEN EXILED TO AVOID CLASSIFYING THEM AS AN ALLY DURING THE ATTACK.

This should definitely be patched, because if they are exiled during the attack then they do not deserve to maintain the ally bonus.

Hello,

I was Nero Dover,

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=6207153

I led the dovers from about the age of 15.

The Lady in charge, my grandmother I'm pretty sure, was asking for a baker.

I figured I could offer my assistance and leverage my help for succession, as she was quite old.

I was right - so I am a young Baron, soon turned Lord.

I do very little for most of my life - in terms of what one may do as a leader.

I basically just had a fancy pin and baked, chortled, etc...

We had some active boars nearby, so the towns first death under my rule was probably around my mid to late 20s, maybe early thirties.

It was very foolish, as the bakery and smith were all one building, and that building also contained the meds, the victim ran around in confusion, making the medic get lost and ultimately fail to completely heal him.

This led to the first instance of my intervention - it was requested that I take action.

I ordered 'protocol' for being injured as - running to the meds and standing still.

I then ordered all aprons to be handed in and dyed to become medical. I don't think we had more than two, and one was mine from baking.

This led to one or two more injuries being handled with more efficiency, and the town lives. At this point, there may be around 20 adults in the town.

Because the new follow system is relatively static in terms of hierarchy, it was very easy for the town to have an information delivery system that moved laterally across everyone - since this organization had been around for at least two previous generations, almost everyone in the town was part of it, and I was the only one with leadership.

Then came Dorla Dover.

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=6207153

She was vilified very quickly, and I think that perhaps the situation was escalated too quickly - still, I think the town was justified in its action - it was essentially a unanimous agreement.

Dorla was my niece, so I was not thrilled to be causing so much drama (I am a fitness nut), but Dorla began dirtying our pads/

Remember, that our culture was heavily centered on medicine, and injuries were common.

This got three people very upset, as Dorla /devious and drops our pads on the ground.

She gets cursed by a couple people, and she begins chopping all our firewood. So I see this and leader mode kicks in, despite her being in my direct line.

I curse her, and i put out an order to curse her, citing that she ruins meds. Everyone runs over and starts cursing her. She starts ruining shit.

Then I take out my knife and declare 'I will kill dorla dover,' and place an order for it.

Now everyone starts taking notice, and the entire city comes, at that point, she abruptly stops, as she realizes that  there are like 25 people, all in one faction, all being ordered to curse her.

Then she started asking for her mother.

So here's the problem I found. Our faction was very big, and we all were trying to kill her, but even with a ton of people, it was not working.

Someone came up to me and said that I needed to exile her - I had forgotten about this mechanic, but I said the thing and she got the 'X' over her chest with the title of my 'exiled follower'

It still took around 12 people to kill her, so it seemed. She stood there, exiled, with 8 -10 people targeting her, and she did not die.

It seems extremely bugged. People were cursing jason, and I put out an order describing how jason cannot develop this mechanic properly.

I'm sure there were other forumers on there, maybe someone will confirm this all and give their more informed take on it.

Anyway, eventually, we got her killed.

At this point, we are all united and happy, we have a ton of food, and we can spend some time celebrating that we had worked together so well all life. I had a gentleman insist on burying me away from the town where my grave will not be disturbed, out of respect for my contribution (again, all I did was use the leadership mechanics for the benefit of everyone).

So ultimately, a mixed success in terms of how the game is working out right now. If the town had been less united in faction or in mentality, it could have gotten extremely messy and impossible to control, but it did not.

That was all of the drama, I died after passing on leadership to a girl who, while is not a forumer, seemed to know enough of the game and leadership to be a suitable heir. I forget her name - sorry.

Anyone know what's up with the posse mechanic?

While you may be great at the game, it seems like you're bad at complex social situations. With food buffs and organization buffs, it is viable to 'spend all life begging for rank' because it actually does something meaningful.

#20 Re: Main Forum » Respect the Badge » 2020-02-10 20:56:22

It can be helpful to have someone in charge. When something serious happens, an infrastructure for that information to spread quickly is valuable.

If there is succession and a life of campaigning can lead to long standing organization, it can be worth it.

When most people feel pivotal in the development of the community, there is little grief. WHen people begin to feel more separate from the town, they become blase and act selfishly out of boredom.

It was never too common for leadership to arise pre-follow update.

Crowns were almost never respected, and were more aesthetic.

Now, people seem to care a hell of a lot more about badges. As a clever leader, you can do a whole lot and get away with it that may otherwise not be possible.

Depending on my mood, sometimes I care about crowns. Sometimes I only care about being a good leader.

When I don't care about the crown, being a good leader is pretty simple. I just keep an eye out for griefing, I help people locate certain materials or workers, I start multi-generational tasks, etc...

However, sometimes I'm just really feeling into gold... and I see a crown on a baby... and I just gotta have it.

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5909113

Dick Gary, as I was, was very into crowns. Pooja Gary happened to make crown blank as a child that I, well... took.

But who gives a shit? If it's just a crown, then it's just a crown. I swap pieces of clothing and packs with infants all the time. It's not a big deal. children are not entitled to anything more than anyone else. Others may have chosen to let the child have the special hat, but I decided that the special hat would look better on me. So when she placed the blank, I snagged it and made my own crown.

Obviously, she got angry. Pooja began doing that thing that losers do - whining about not having what they want, while I go about doing legitimately important business. Organizing the leaders, and figuring out next steps in the city.

Then, she wouldn't let up. I was constantly annoyed by this little idiot.

http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5909118

Finally, I have had enough. Pooja has officially become a neusance. So I make official ection as Baron to exile her and order her death. She os posseed and hit, but is mysteriusly healed back in our city by someone I couldn't see, as I had run out in the posse.

Nonetheless, she stayed away after that, and I was able to successfully conclude my political carreer.
Finally, towards the end of my life, I was called out by an old woman who ended up being the one who savd the girl and had seen the crown issue. She told me I was a coward.

I exiled her and ordered her death. She trolled about but ultimately died. I think it was lady gary. http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5909118

My major associate, June Gary, bought every word of it all. She genuinely believed we were acting for reasons beyond my personal gain - not really the case.

I did what needed to be done for us to maintain the faction and grow together. While those two may have been honest and not incorrect, they stil got in the way of the city by getting in my way. I made sure that they were punished for that. Don't mess with the baron.

Hi. I was your grandmother, Miranda Che. Your mother Rosemary was my daughter. I like to name my children after favorite herbs and spices. My other daughters died young, but Rose promised to live to 60- which she did. In my life I owned two crowns but wore neither. I don't really like politics. In old age, I gifted one to you. My grandson Simon Che, the next king.

After that I was born to a darkskinned black woman named Aya Pie. It was a ferile birth and we took a long trip to reach the bell town where I'd just died. My name was Richa Pie. I recognized you, but couldn't understand you or any of the other Che family members I'd just left. Regardless, I followed you and made to live a peaceful life. My mother Aya carried me a long way to reach town and in appreciation I named my first son after her. Ayaan Pie. He wore a devil mask- you and John targeted him but I never learned why. Wearing my medic vest I healed him two or three times. While he was on cooldown I told him to run, to seek refuge in the desert if he was chased. Eventually he left town and lived a long healthy life. My mother Aya was also attacked while defending him and I saved her too. Later, you delivered a message apologizing for the violence and begging for peace, which I ignored.

After your death I took your writing tools and issued a formal challenge against your young successor Honey Che. Feeling wronged, I wanted a duel to restore my family's honor. She fled, and I told the people that she was a coward. Later ambushing her, she escaped again and a posse formed to hunt me down. Eventually I fell upon your brother John Che's knife as the final song played.

Having spent a few lives as king, avoiding violent is always the right answer. Especially with a language barrier people won't understand the reason behind it. Even without that people go murder crazy with strings of revenge stabbing. Don't just attack that suspicious lady carrying around a bow and arrow, use your words. She'll probably be happy to compromise and put the arrow in her bag, because she didn't realize holding it in her hand like that made people nervous.

I think that what you did was perfect. In all honesty, the murder was all more hunch-based than factual. The kid seemd extemely suspect, and when I expressed that to my family, we all agreed that killing him was better than waiting for him to start bull shit.

I also think that what you did after was fantastic. I wish you had succeeded.

I am also happy to know that my faction was able to withstand the struggle for at least a little.
