It's a fun game, but definitely get the Yumlife Mod from Github so that you can see more than 2 squares in front of your nose.
Best played with a group. The mod can help with that as well. Player base is small, but dedicated, generally welcoming and helpful. More so if you have the mod, because it allows players to be identified and therefore trusted.
