Should wolf farms be a new staple farm to civiliations?

Once sheep tech is reached civilizations have the ability to start farming wolves for hats.
1 sheep and 1 pig can provide 4 hats for the populous, but the question is: is it worth it?

It takes a whole lifetime to set up the pen and get the things started from scratch (pen, pig farm, wolf farm) and the dangers dogs pose to a village are fairly high and tempting.
Wolf farming is also dangerous and can lead to pre-mature death/ waste of medical.(remember to drop the food on semi-tame, not move-click)

So, are all the dangers worth a consistent supply of the best insulating hat? What do you guys think?

Risk is too high, maybe for more private servers without many noobs playing

Not worth it, in my opinion.    Rabbit hats are good enough.  If you must have a wolf hat, just take a horsecart out and hunt some in a far off bad lands.   They are never so scarce that you can't find them when you go looking.

Domesticated wolves do not provide any unique benefits compared with hunting wild wolves.   So it is not like with sheep or cows where you get a unique product (thread or milk) for your efforts.  All it provides is the ability to mass-produce wolves/dogs really close to your village.   Since wolves AND dogs can be used to intentionally kill people and pig meat is a deadend food product, I see no benefit to putting in a bunch of effort to make a griefer's paradise next to your growing village.

You can always do this away from a town. All you need is a 3x3 corn and carrot patch near some wild berry bushes. Fence it in for added security.

It's too risky.  I have a house next to a wolf farm on a private server.  I would kill the wolves and dogs if I found one in game.

I'd rather hunt turkeys to use their feathers to reset rabbit hats

It's a good idea, wish you could eat the wolf meat.

I have a new purpose in life!

The only problem: what to do with skinned bodies?

The bodies are a reason wolf pens need to be very large, if you want to continuously farm them contained you need to have room for when the bodies inevitably pile up.
(1 wolf can be farmed about 10-15 times in a single life, maybe even 20 if you're dedicated)

Anyone want to suggest jason make the bodies disappear in 10-20 minutes instead of an hour? Or be able to move/dispose of them or something?

1 skin per.

Though risks and dangers abound I think In time you can see yourself saving on a percentage of rabbit skins, meaning more packs.

Re: Should wolf farms be a new staple farm to civiliations?

If you've got pigs in town making a wolf pen off to the side of town is fine in my opinion. Unless you plan on unleashing a wolf on people it's preferable not to put the things near the normal townies and better yet if you're doing it away from town people probably won't mess with your pen.

The lack of being able to clean up a wolf pen makes the experience a bit annoying along with being unable to kill the old wolves. Though as others have stated in the thread the current difference between a rabbit hat vs wolf hat isn't enough to warrant specifically training wolf breeders especially since wolf hats make using backpacks harder.

Re: Should wolf farms be a new staple farm to civiliations?

oh i thought they can have one time babies, i meant 1 skin per wolf like that

lot of maps have no wolves and even if they do, the hats decay over time

wolf hats are bit annoying, cause they cover a lot

i mean if you can afford the material, and you are fast, you can do it out of sight, i just don't think others will know how to maintain it over time

Would be nice if it were more viable and a nice sink for pork. However i would be really fine if we were able to eat dog lol so there would be a way to get rid of the corpses sooner or have a better way of quickly disposing of a wolf once it has been bred and died.
