..the old version of the server might still be running in the background. The easiest way to resolve this would be to reboot the VM by running the command:
rebootAfter rebooting this way, which I didn't try yet, instead of server mismatch, I get "Login failed."
I checked the server custom files of my new client and they are as they should be: "1""localhost" and "8005".
What could be the problem now?
Part of the server setup instructions are to [ln -s ../../dataVersionNumber.txt]
If you do not do this, your version number may be incorrect for the server code you are running.
I redid everything with a new clone of my old server (which runs fine on vs 75). I can login on the clone with my old client so there is no problem there.
My new client runs vs 82 and works on the official servers.
I update the clone, which should have worked because the serverCodeVersionNumber.txt reads 78. I restarted the VM several times and also my whole pc, just to make sure nothing is running. But now I get a version mismatch again "client is 82, server is 75".
I just don't get it.. How can an old version of the server be running after this?
Do you have a symlink to dataVersionNumber.txt?

you can disable map culling with
mapCellForgottenSeconds.ini = 0
thx to "If" ...
Thx. Didn't know map culling affected decay of items as well
It doesnt. You will need to edit the transitions manually, or remove them. This is best accomplished in the editor. PM me on discord for help.
It would be cool if later domesticated birds and other animals came about. Maybe replace some bear dens with boar caves, mouflon to deer and replicate snakes with wild fowl. Also if you could properly domesticate horses so they don't run away without a fence. Maybe they can generate a properly domesticated pony or something. Otherwise, I don't think there would enough water to support that kind of multi level farming now
I got super annoyed with escaped horses, so I made them stop doing that. Life is better.
Jason is running a marathon, not a sprint. If you are interested in more complex crafting or less punishing agriculture try a custom server (or make your own!).
It seems that the decay system has lead many to live a nomadic lifestyle. Every since the update, every time I spawn, I'm either in a failing farming society, i'm left to die, or me and my mother simply walk around looking for food. I've always wanted to do a nomadic game with horses and carts and the like, but my scenario doesn't really emulate that well.
I have fleshed out some of the nomad aspects of the game, check 2HOL discord channel #guide for info.
I am certain that decay will be tweaked. 2HOL will not be implementing the decay changes if you are looking for a different experience, with more focus on permanence and city building.
2HOL will not be implementing decay.
This makes me want to age wine pretty badly.
Those are nice alternatives, but I want a friend feature and friend support added into the game itself to improve the game over all. I don't want to have to use alternate methods, which is fine but I would prefer that features for friend support be added.
2HOL sounds cool, but I don't like the idea of living for two hours straight. One hour is already a long time for me, but I will check it out at the least.
You can get off the merry-go-round anytime you please. My average is 103, longest life was 117.
Many of your gripes with the game are addressed on custom servers. I make it a point to roll back or alter updates which make farming more tedious or punishing, and our server has 5 towns you can travel to by road.
I have implemented rudimentary signs. They are designed to be used on adobe walls, so you can label boxes along a wall.
Your immortal soul transcends each lifetime. That being said, there is little opportunity cost in teaching children. Mothers should be teaching always.
If you are ok with custom assets you can join us on 2HOL. Spawn is set to Zero, Zero which makes it easy to find your friends (or siblings). Link to Discord below.
2HOL requires custom assets, and therefore a client was the easiest way to mitigate people mucking about with directories.
One of our players had a script to swap asset folders. After I finish the next update I will fix the "assets only" hit and see if I can get the launcher running with the script.
Certain custom minecraft servers employed "pearls". These could be used to imprison people indefinitely in The End, where they could work off their sentence or wait for a ransom.

We scheduled our updates for Saturday's on 2HOL for this reason. Having client control helps, this way people use a separate directory and can play no matter what.
You can just do a diff like jason does.
I am not good at computers.

Discord invitation is updated in OP, but here you go: https://discord.gg/atEgxm7
Full list of stuff changed is just in my notebook. If anyone knows of an easy way to index/display the items, that would be cool.
I have commented the transitions files I changed, so all recipes are human-readable.
Yep, Babsy. 2HOL discord link is wrong - https://discord.gg/atEgxm7

-Fixed sheep bones as building materials (they no longer block players)
-Compost can be made with reeds again to mitigate wheat spam
Howdy,
We here are 2HOL have finished initial bug squashing and are looking for more people to test our content patch. This was a large update, and some things may be broken. This update focused on fleshing out the nomadic part of the game and some basic supply/demand stuff. Please review the following changes:
- You live 2 hours. After age 108, you get 8 hunger bars.
- Females are fertile until age 90.
- Wild carrots bear seeds again after 2 epochs.
- Wormless pits give new worms every 300 seconds.
- All trees are plantable. You need a shovel and compost.
- The apocalypse is disabled.
- Map tile culling is disabled.
- Violence against people is disabled.
- Shrines to your dead kin can be built. This starts a multi-generational quest to please the carrot god. He frowns on greed. This is a looping quest centered on ancestor worship and offerings.
- Doors can be locked with craftable keys. There are 9 variants.
- Stumps can be drilled to hide keys.
- Coins can be minted for trading. They stack to 15.
- Bellows can be removed from forge.
- Milk has been added. Use a bucket.
- Flatbread has been added. Use a flat stone.
- Cheesemongering has been added. Craft a creamery.
- Sandwiches have been added. Mutton sandwich is best sandwich.
- Silk farming and weaving has been added.
- Tents and robes can be crafted with silk.
- Camels have been added as a versatile mount and livestock.
- Camels can accept cargo crates, or be led with a bridle.
- Cargo crates hold 5 slots.
- Camels can be hitched, and must be unhitched with a bridle.
- Caravan camels can be ridden as horses.
- Plaster pathways can be crafted instead of wooden roads.
- And some stuff I probably forgot.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed art, ideas, animations, and testing hours. There is much more content to come, with another "worship" quest in the works for farm-centered societies. Hope to see you on the new map!
So are custom servers the future of the game?
Miles of berry bushes and little else doesn't sound super fun. Or maybe it will be?
I am committed to removing or altering things I don't like in the vanilla game. I will continue to add/remove content in order to extend the longevity of settlements.
