Yay.

The last hard wipe was over 14 months ago. In my books they should happen at least twice a year, maybe four times a year; once every quarter.

Our little friend came back from his forced 7 day or so hiatus, immediately started trolling and impersonating people again, and it looks like he might've gotten banned again. If so, then thank you to the "powers that be".

So you just happened to create an account today and immediately, by sheer chance, proceeded to post in this thread with the quality content you've blessed us with so far. Boy, I hope you never pursue a career in sales, sonny, because you're going to have to come up with bullshit a lot better than that.

The purpose of this thread remains what I've already told you. As for contacting the "proper people", that's been done and I was just told the troll has been banned off Phex. On that account anyway.

Btw just as a general update to the matter, I'm being told by a regular community member that curse name "Drama Tank" has at least two other accounts: curse names "Quest Wheat" and "Fire Skin". Don't know if true, but still something to watch out for I think.

Right, that's it. I didn't actually catch him posing as Chuck_Berry myself, only simple (a name with which the letter trick works), and it turns out it wasn't an exact copy of Chuck's name.

Anyway the guy is in Donkey Town, his curse name is Drama Tank. Maybe you have a griefer list you could check for that name.

Just putting it out there that there's someone who's managed to copy the exact nicknames of existing players in the Hetuw mod's in-game chat and is pretending to be them. So far I've seen him copy the names of the following Phex tags:

-simple
-Chuck_Berry
-EveWhisler (me)

I can't speak for simple or Chuck, but I for one can always verify myself over Discord: FulmenTheFinn#8866, so feel free to ask the person using my name to add them on that account if they're acting funny; chances are they're not me.

It's okay, Ian. Finding this thread just now and reading the associated Discord conversation made my morning. Remember, it's just a game.

Seems like blacks died out a few hours ago, I wonder what happened, but if you saying there is no engine that means it's likely that they got griefed.

Yeah, kinda sad that we can't claim the well without an engine. I'm not sure if we don't also need kerosene to claim it, if yes, that means this town most likely will remain dead.

Yep, that's the one. 25 cisterns, all full of water and can't claim it because no engine and kerosene. It's ridiculous. No wonder towns last such a short amount of time now.

There is no benefit to claim exhausted well because of no water.
If your town's well is exhausted it still counts as your family well, it is not abandoned well yet, you still can have homeland and babies.
If your family die out it turns to an abandoned well.

Edit: imagine someone riding horse all the map and easy claim all abandoned well

Just today whilst playing as a daughter of Eve Laskar, our entire family relocated to a very developed nearby abandoned city with plenty of water (20 or so cisterns, all full!), food and iron, only to discover we couldn't feasibly live there because we couldn't claim the well (needed an engine). Our Eve hadn't actually tapped a well site, so technically we had no homeland, and some of us could give birth. Curiously if we went out of the area of our birth for I reckon over 100 tiles (default homesick range), we became permanently homesick and unable to spawn babies. Only way around that was to tap a well site, which we eventually did when migrating back to the Eve camp. This is not ideal.

Yes, riding around in a horse claiming abandoned well sites would be a problem. Ideally there'd be mechanisms preventing that.

What are you talking about???
It is already possible to claim all types of abandoned wells.
To claim a first-tier well you need a bowl, second-tier well you need a bucket, Newcomen well need rubber, engine well need oil to claim.
You need to use the well to claim it,

Aha, OK. However there's a lot of good towns out there with exhausted wells that require an engine, but can't be claimed before an engine is made.  These should also be claimable, so that a new population can live there whilst an engine is made in the meantime.

EDIT: Same deal with newcomen wells with no tires around.

For most of OHOL's existence families generally have survived for circa 12-24h. Not great, but not the end of the world. However under the current spawn algorithm, coupled with the homeland system, not only do families die out within hours, so do towns. This is caused by nothing but shallow wells being claimable, leaving abandoned towns uninhabitable, which in turn means all the hard work put into improving those towns will effectively be gone to the ether within a day, making it all rather pointless. In order to increase the longevity of towns, and thus giving players a greater reason to put in the time and effort in improving their habitat, I suggest making it possible to claim all types of abandoned wells.

-A handful of griefers. This often nets me curses, since as an experienced player I tend to catch griefers before they slaughter half the town, and then a portion of the new players can't understand why I killed a player who just tried to randomly stab someone, or steal 15 buckets out of town.

-Usually I SID if born as a boy. Since the last time I logged on was only to check if there'd been an apoc/hard reset, I think the mother may have cursed me with "curse my baby" after SID'ing and exiting the game. But I'm unsure, since the command does not seem to target the latest dead baby if you have even one living child. Maybe I was her only child.

-No to the rest.

Last week I goofed around roleplaying in a bell town. Didn't hurt anyone, wreck anything, steal, insult, nothing really. I wore a devil mask and an all red outfit and goofed off about how so very evil of me to don my evil cloak and fooooolish mortals these evils berries shall convert your children to my ways etc etc. I even sat by the fire and YUMMED to use less food. At least until the posses started trying to murder me. I got 5-6 curses that life, for nothing. It was a really good case in point. People are stupid and democracy is wrong. If I'd actually been griefing I would have sneaked around hiding things when nobody was looking, changing outfits etc. I've done it on a few bitter lives after some bullshit and it's laughably easy to get away with griefing. I sat down and killed a town once and nobody cursed me because I was the least bit sneaky with some hearsay. You know what I always got cursed for? Killing a proper no holds barred griefer. Telling someone in brown town that their dream of building a car is hopeless. I'll be the only black guy in a town with newcomen@torn seal taming horses my whole life and three people curse me because hey!! That nigger is stealing horses!!! That's the reality in this game.

Yep, people are liable to curse you over just about any social interaction. A griefer might curse you for fun, or if you catch them in the act and try doing something about it. Or they might just tell others how you're a naughty griefer and get a bunch of people to curse you. That's happened to me a lot in my over 1.1k hours.

Last week my daughter got cursed by 3-5 people literally only for saying she thinks there should be an apocalypse. People then went around claiming she's a griefer. She was a normal, averagely decent player.

It does feel silly that anyone, regardless of experience, is given such powers that can be so easily misused or abused. The current curse system actively discourages people from interacting with oneanother and pre-emptively dealing with griefers. The safest course of action is to simply lay low, not speak to anyone unless an absolute must, and let griefers kill half the town or steal half the tools before enough people band against them. Not a very fun way to play.

Or, this exact toxic immaturity is why people have decided to curse you into donkey town. It takes a lot of curses to get there. I dont spawn there. Maybe the issue isnt everyone else. Maybe it's you.

Right. Which part of "played normally, did not get cursed, next day spawned in donkey town seemingly for 1h but unable to get out hours later" did you not understand?

Having the exact same problem. One day I was playing fine, then took a break, only popping in to see if there was an apocalypse yet, there wasn't one so I SID and exit the game. The next day I'm stuck in donkey town, and that's now continued for days, despite having spent hours there by now and the UI claiming I have only one hour that I need to spend there. I was about to post a more thorough thread about it, but decided to come see here if there were others having similar issues. I have a second account so I've been using that for the time being, but I'll probably post about it tomorrow or later this week, if it doesn't fix itself. I think Jason screwed something up.

I think it's easy to move with no tank on it, but the only way to remove it is to get crude oil. Possible, but dis-proportionally difficult to setting up the distiller.

I had a feeling this might be the case. It goes without saying that it should also be disassemblable with an empty tank.

Considering the average OHOL player, that distiller could well be there for days with the current difficulty of removing it. Actually in a previous life an hour or two before that picture, I had already knocked down the yellow wall shelf in the spot I'm standing on into a simple adobe wall and asked the smith to make a pickaxe, showing him the wall before dying. When I got back there in a later life, instead of seeing the shelf knocked down so there'd be a connection between the kitchen and nursery again, people had simply made it into a white wall shelf again.

Consider this a bug report.

P33rdOB.png

I've removed the wall on the tile I'm standing on in this picture; it used to be a yellow wall shelf like the rest of the row. That being said, a griefer had blocked the walkway between the kitchen and the nursery by installing a fractional distiller and parking a couple of cars and a plane there, the latter which were there merely to add insult to injury, as they can be removed with kerosene. The distiller however cannot to my knowledge be removed at all. This should be addressed.

Furthermore, upon dying clothes later that life, I discovered that while white hats with feathers were dyable, ones with roses were not. No doubt a developer oversight. This should also be addressed.

#23 Re: Main Forum » Can we get an auto-lock on old threads on the forums? » 2020-01-06 05:51:10

Having an auto-lock system is probably not even possible with the ~20 year old framework this forum runs on, considering it lacks even basic 2000s forum functionality like buttons for BBCode commands, or multi-quoting. I reckon it'd need to be updated first, which is an undertaking in of itself, and one Jason probably won't do.
