#2 Re: Main Forum » The Door Problem » 2019-02-22 22:09:37

Jason is there anything keeping you from making doors automatic? From either a programmer or a philosophical standpoint? If not, just do it. If yes I would like to know what it is. Look, we finally have buildings. Is it really a good idea to make using buildings infinitely more tedious by having annoying door closing/opening mechanisms?

#3 Re: Main Forum » Would maps be possible? » 2019-02-22 21:55:35

I value my life on OHOL. That's why I use AWBZ mod to get the most out of it.

On the topic of maps, I don't think doing it the minecraft way is gonna work well with OHOL. Just learn your camp's surroundings and deal with it. In the end no camp is permanent anyway (like 99% of camps don't survive a 24 hour period so who cares about making permanent maps for them).

#4 Re: Main Forum » Live changes to donkeytown threshold for repeat offenders. » 2019-02-22 17:21:15

Regardless of everything else I want to take a moment to say that I really appreciate your increased presence on the forums, Jason. Not sure how much it interferes with your work schedule but it's nice to see you interact more with the community.

#5 Re: Main Forum » Education of the baby. "Child tours" » 2019-02-22 13:42:36

"how should a female busy with babies know what's really needed ?"

THIS attitude right there is one of the big problems the game currently has. Why on earth would it be acceptable that a mother doesn't know what's going on? It's not. If you're a mother your job isn't just to pop out babies and name them. You should be aware of what is going on around town. Do we have enough food to actually support these babies you are raising? What are the most needed jobs etc.

I routinely see three or four women in the nurseries just standing there holding kids not doing anything at all, not even keeping the fire going, not getting clothes, not closing the doors, not taking out the corpses, not firing the oven, nothing. When I ask them about it they all act like it's impossible that one or two of them ever leave that little box and go get stuff that is needed. Guess what, that's incredibly lazy and being a female in game is no excuse for that.

If anything I feel it's the mothers that should go on a tour now and then to stay up to date on what is happening in town.

#6 Re: Main Forum » Education of the baby. "Child tours" » 2019-02-22 10:34:50

I hate extended baby tours. I get that it's supposed to be helpful but it often just seems like excessive roleplaying. You can tell babies, berries are left, stew farm is right or something like that. No need for a two minute tour imo.

The best mom I ever had were all moms that were actually working while raising me and not just standing around.

#7 Re: Main Forum » Live changes to donkeytown threshold for repeat offenders. » 2019-02-22 07:38:01

It should absolutely be a ratio of curses/hours played.

Also, if there are only 27 people with a curse score of over 55 but the state of griefing is as bad as it currently is that just means that the majority of griefers manage to avoid curses. Really makes you think.

Guys stop feeding the troll already.

#9 Re: Main Forum » A Guide to Farming. [Spoilers] Don't read if you want to self-learn. » 2019-02-19 11:12:22

Note that Newcomen Pump produces 3 buckets of water, not 4.

Ideally you would add stew farming at some point as well.

Other than that, well written guide!

#10 Re: Main Forum » The New Temperature System, Explained Simply » 2019-02-18 06:50:56

Yes you are misremembering the temp bar. Here is old on top and new below it (for naked in neutral biome)

Temp

You can check this yourself by looking at streamer/YT videos from before the update or old screenshots.

#11 Re: Main Forum » Game and Forums Crashing » 2019-02-17 09:33:51

I've noticed this happens every day at 9 GMT and lasts a few minutes where you can not log into the game or reach the website. Maybe daily server reboot?

#12 Re: Main Forum » Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh my! Nubs, griefers, & dead weight oh no! » 2019-02-17 07:24:23

My thought is people should stop making all these complaining forum posts and let players adapt for at least a few days before calling for more changes.

#13 Re: News » Update: Temperature Overhaul » 2019-02-17 06:47:37

I very much doubt this sort of technical posting is gonna sway the casual player base.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Thornberry family cursed me to donkey town for being born » 2019-02-15 05:56:55

It's not just like....your opinion man, it's an insult. Several people have asked you now to think about your tone, you might want to listen.

#16 Re: Main Forum » i killed for the first time » 2019-02-14 14:51:00

Sounds like you killed a dirty berry muncher. Other people wasted their own time reacting to it. They weren't willing to stop eating berries but were fine killing others punishing them for it. It's the usual OHOL story. Killing dirty berry munchers is a useful project and you probably  saved the town hundreds of food worth by doing it. After playing for hundreds of hours I got no sympathy for dirty berry munchers, excessive RP and the like. But the majority of people will tell you that you did wrong.

I do hope you did some useful things for town tho, killing dirty berry munchers only is not enough to keep legacy going I'm afraid. But it's a start.

#17 Re: Main Forum » Lower the Donkey Town Requirement » 2019-02-11 07:01:39

I'd like to point out that being able to kill a whole group of twins/triplets/quads just by killing one of them seems kinda unfair and could easily be exploited by griefers. Just imagine someone walking into a quad eve camp and stabbing/shooting a single player, destroying the whole camp in one go.

#18 Re: Main Forum » Eating table (idea discussion) » 2019-02-10 20:46:02

I love the table idea, I thought for a while we need something like a food court as an alternative to the berry farm where we can put different food options and have it in a central part of town so people can hang around there instead of berry farms.

Just nerfing berries will not change things for people that literally don't know anything else. You could probably make berries have 1 pip and they would still eat them and plant them, in all likelihood they would plant even more to make up for the lack of nutrition.

#19 Re: Main Forum » Lower the Donkey Town Requirement » 2019-02-10 19:52:48

I like it.

The one thing that needs to be reworked tho imo is the lifetime curse score system. It's fixed numbers right now that determine the duration of your stay in DT. But the longer the game is out and the more people play, the higher your lifetime curse score is gonna be on average which means that by simply playing more people get longer DT sentences on average. It should instead be a ratio of curses accumulated over time played. This is to make sure people get fair sentences.

Edit: I see Dodge already suggested something like this, good stuff.

#20 Re: Main Forum » One Hour One Life - The Griefer's Game » 2019-02-10 17:21:33

Yes there is a huge power imbalance between worse and better players and griefers that are better players have an easy time tearing down what any numbers of players built.
Regardless of whether that's part of any vision or not it significantly impacts players ability to enjoy the game in a negative way. Smart griefers don't go to donkey town all the time, people might not even know who's screwing with them in the background while their town dies.
Curses haven't been a sufficient griefer deterrent in a while now, the number of griefers vs. the number of available curses just doesn't work out.
Becoming a better Eve will do nothing to protect you from griefers, some like trolling big towns, some small ones. Eve camps are an especially easy target due to their vulnerability.
As for the other issues, I mostly agree with OP but I have no hopes that Jason will change any of this. He will never implement the mod and he doesn't want us to be able to 'pick' our life circumstances. And he cannot really change much about the nocturnal infertility due to player base drop.

So pushing for a change in curse mechanics/the way griefers are handled is imo the only thing that has somewhat of a chance to be successful and I'm even skeptical about that tbh... just my 2 cents.

#22 Re: Main Forum » Total newbies should not play in Eve camps » 2019-02-09 12:50:52

I kind of feel I got enough input/feedback by now to understand why newbies play in eve camps and I will take some things into consideration in the future. So thanks everyone for giving their views, it did make me realize some things.

Other than that all I got left to say is: posting several times in a row is something I see as very bad form in forums. There is an edit button. Please use it. This goes especially to Spoonwood, who I have seen posting as much as three times in a row in some threads. Cheers.

#23 Re: Main Forum » Have you not been having children? » 2019-02-09 09:22:57

The only time this happens is usually when there are server restarts or tests. In that time the people on the server can still play but no new people can log in. It will ruin your line due to no babies if it goes on too long.  Nothing much you can do about it, but it should only happen occasionally.

#24 Re: Main Forum » Do you enjoy killing people? » 2019-02-09 09:14:24

Like it or not, this thread is actually helpful in understanding griefers, at least for me. This guy does what he does anyway, he only chooses to explain it to us. It's not like he would grief less if this thread didn't exist. You can hate what he does, but the game ultimately allows him to play like this and he's just pointing it out to us. That's my take on it.

#25 Re: Main Forum » Forum Lu and discord Lu are not the same people! » 2019-02-09 09:08:51

Discord Lu doesn't sounds like forum Lu either, it's not that hard to figure out they're not the same.
