So it has been a while since I have played OHOL (and been apart of the community) and I am just curious on how things have been progressing like what has changed since I have been gone? both in and outside of the game. Don't know if any of y'all will recognize me but if  you do then hi smile

As a veteran, it is easy to lose track of the fun parts of this game, because you are trying too hard to get the real work done.

If you want better stories, it is best to try to create them for yourself, rather than expecting other people to entertain you.  The game is not as supportive of roleplay as it once was, but if you find yourself in a stable village, there is nothing stopping you from building an obelisk in the center of town to worship the Goose God or looking around for willing woman to take as your wife.  Building a little house out of pine needles is super easy.

Role-play opens up an endless array of unique lives and fun interactions.   Try staying in touch with your family members.
Consider looking for your mother when you reach adulthood.  Ask her if she needs any help.  Offer her something nice that you made as a gift.  Do the same thing with your kids.   Don't be a stranger.  Show an interest in their lives and do what you can to offer them a unique game experience.  Teach your kids an unusual skill, like fishing or buffalo hunting.  Show them how to make something they have never made before.   Give them jobs or quests.  Check back to see if your kids are still alive and happy before you die.

This game can still be magical and emotionally weighty.   But the game mechanics don't really support interpersonal relationships, so you have to put in extra effort to develop them on your own time.

Have to agree with you here, from my experiences the best lives come form connecting to other people and making connections, Most people from what I have seen people love to role play (if someone doesn't then don't bother them) and are willing to make an interweaving story that makes the world feel real. If you struggle with RP my best advise would be: "play your charter and not yourself"

#6 Re: Main Forum » Currency & Roleplay Shops » 2021-01-16 06:33:27

Personally I would love if we got currency but not the type based on physical coins, but paper currency, for two reasons

Firstly using materials such as gold or copper makes it harder for people trying to accomplish personal projects with them

Secondly using paper money allows for easer and less costly production (time and resources wise)

I imagen Paper money working sort of like cards, where you shear the paper to get a blank stack of cards, but instead of dying it instantly blue you would first dip the stack into Dye Mordant, giving you : stack of White Cash this stack then can be dyed in the usual fashion, giving us currency colors of :
White, Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, & Green

These Different cards will face horizontally, and won't have any other markings besides their color the Idea being that the village decides how much each slip is worth  (but I can see a few ways of implementing stamping and showing a visual indicator of value)

And to end it all off a new type of storage needs to be introduced: wallets, handbags, & vaults  These Items have the solo purpose of storing money (like the lab table) and will be able to hold a lot of it. This is to make money easy to handle instead of having to carry around a basket with three bucks, you can have a handbag holding 30 types of paper money, and stores could have vaults to store large amounts of money.
(and for privacy you could add a lock and key to the vault Just in Case)

I have the solution! we combine both problems to make a solution:

introduce a new recipe : fried bananas with garlic

and let us be able to grow bananas with our garlic

Problem is that the bananas we see in our jungle biomes are already domesticated because they are the stereotypical yellow, curvy bananas that  we like to think are "regular" bananas. so to domesticate bananas Jason would have to make an wild nanners. So I don't think it will happen, even though I myself wish we could farm bananas.

tho in a wierd way having only domesticated bananas in jungles sorta fits into the lore or OHOL, and explains why we can't grow new banana tree. fun fact you can't grow a banana tree form a "regular" banana because it is do generically inbreed, to itself the only way we make more tree in real life is using cuttings

Lol, what? You know what plantains are? It's true that there are different kinds of bananas but they don't need to be domesticated, they're like coconut. That's just how bananas are in the wild because of monkeys.

We eat domesticated bananas, saying that the bananas we eat are wild bananas is like saying seedless watermelons are wild watermelons, just look up: "do we eat domesticated bananas" and you'll learn the truth about the banana.

but you are right about coconuts and how we eat their wild variant

now for the garlic discussion we should be able to tie up a stack of garlic on a rope and hang them up on walls, this is called a garlic garland

because why give something a use when you can just store it?

Recently there has been a lot of hate happing here, I think it started with gogo's post on spoonwood, the weird thing that this hole hate train started at the same time Morti came back who is the most positive person here, (but I don't think these instances are related it is just a coincidence). I am making this post as a broad stroke to everything that has been happening and I know I'm not the only person who noticed this because the mods have been more active in stopping our discussion threads because of this behavior. I don't have any solutions but these words:

"Think before you post"

I don't want anyone to be banned but a lot of us are near that tipping point so be carful now time for me to retreat to my cave.

#17 Re: Main Forum » A change in residence » 2020-11-25 20:47:41

I have ideas for how a weather system would work ever since the rift, but ever since bands I have reworked that idea so how I see it working is that we have invisible vertical bands, moving from left to right these bands could be called "clouds" and it will role a random cloud setting like this
50% sunny
30% light rain
10% light snow
5% heavy snow
5% heavy rain

but you could even take it a step farther, and have each band in the cloud have its own cloud status like this

Desert band :
70% sunny
25% light rain
5% heavy rain

Tundra band:
50% sunny
30% light snow
15% heavy snow
5% snow storm

Jungle band

40% sunny
30% light rain
20% heavy rain
10% Lighting storm (+heavy rain)

Morti I do care for you even though I will probably never meet you... sad but true, I don't know the full picture of you world I only have only a small window on a black screen but what from what I have read is: you are a good person and you need help

You might say to yourself that your not a good person but the story with the guy in the cell tells me otherwise, the anger you feel doesn't come from you but from the ones who hurt you, your isolation comes from fear of that anger and your own,  and you searching for a community from the same place.

you have found a community, this community, as much as we love and care for you, you need others outside of the screen... dare I say real people, I know that it may seem scary to find others but they are out there....

but what do I know I am not a licensed therapist
I am worry for you, & hope that you will make it, to wherever you may roam to where ever you may find yourself, I hope that you find the help that you need...

I think you can't fill your basket because of the OHOL rule, you can only  fit three small objects in a basket

#20 Re: Main Forum » I found something in the woods. » 2020-11-17 22:40:13

weird things always happen to balls in the forest, I was with a friend once, and we say a weird bump in the ground like a baby hill and be kicked it and a   a lacrosse ball was under it, it was weird that a layer of dirt just formed around it usually, they just end up stuck in a gutter or in a rabbit den.

This is a ping pong ball, this is a fancy one because it has a logo but most of them are plain white with no logo

#24 Re: Main Forum » Spoonwood - review » 2020-11-15 06:55:03

What the fuck is this?

Are you seriously comparing spoonwood's  opinion to OHOL to a mental illness?

This is unacceptable behavior! I don't always agree with spoonwood but this is just wrong! Gogo are you okay?

#25 Re: Main Forum » Spoonwood, why you always type so much? » 2020-11-13 20:21:53

We all love you morti and we know that you love us, but you need to show yourself some love, I hope you don't read this because you're too busy sleeping.
