Ah I see, so most of it comes from a lack of understanding the mechanics.
Yeah the snake bite must have been a serious wound or something. I could eat but not pick anything else up or take off clothes.
I still had the bite wound but no countdown for eating again as I could eat freely. I guess that just heals over time or needs medicine.

I don't usually have to pay much attention to the temperature gauge so maybe if I pay it more attention I shouldn't have much troubles with the cold or heat.

I think the white ! thing is fine for now. I just didn't understand what it signified.

#2 Re: Main Forum » Welcome to BETA test a fully new written OHOL Hardcore Server » 2022-06-01 11:54:08

I just played a couple of lives in the server. One I got bit by a snake and could not recover, Ai kept feeding me but I couldn't do much else.
I also ran into a AI who had a black name like I had cursed them but I had not.
I had a human player just appear infront of me as I was dying, they said they were trying to find the village.
I understand the yum thing now, you can't eat the same food repeatedly or else you get ill and cannot eat that food at all.
The seasons thing is a bit weird, I have to keep stepping foot into my racial biome when i get too hot or cold.
I was tracking my leader for a bit until I found my mother and she had just died, when I did slash leader again it crashed my game.
At one point all the deadly animals were throwing up the white ! sign like they were attacking, it went on for about three mintues.

I did not encounter any of the negitive points I encountered last time. No disappearing items, and the biomes looked good plenty of branch bearing trees.

#3 Re: Main Forum » Welcome to BETA test a fully new written OHOL Hardcore Server » 2022-05-31 15:49:36

I gave the server a go, it's got alot of potential. I really like the oceans rivers and mountains. I found it a bit hard to find branch bearing trees. As it's still in alpha with not many people playing I understand that food is still quite plentiful, and animal damage is low. I had one funny interaction with the AI an adult child of mine ran up to me yelling "Florence!", "Florence" I turned and growled "What do you want!?" "Hola!" and skipped away.

Overall the biggest challenge was finding the right branches and dissappearing items which only happened twice. Once was a firebow I was holding and other was some flint I left back at base while I was gathering. I also dismantled a bow that an AI made so that kinda made up for the firebow loss.

#4 Re: Main Forum » The SERVERS under ATTACK! Why and Who? » 2021-06-18 11:13:40

Most of the mods are the people most passionate about the game and the player base.
You have to be to monitor the discord for hours each day.
They have opinions like everyone else and wont stay silent as soon as they become a mod.
Being a mod is a thankless job with no real perks.

I know the lack of new content and declining player base has been causing drama in recent weeks.
People should really have a tougher skin and ignore people whose comments provoke you.
People are bored and it seems Villanelle gets a lot of the heat because they are one of the last big greifers still currently playing.

OHOL still needs those players who like to build towns and be the town workhorse, think they are kings or queens, cause drama, kill for little reason or steal valuables.
It would be boring if everyone played the same.

A ddos attack was bound to happen eventually. On the bright side it was likely the best timing for it, while we are in a content drought and few players.
Better now so we can prevent it in the future than when the new content begins rolling out again.

#5 Re: Main Forum » What would you like to see as an update? » 2021-03-01 07:37:02

Copper watering cans which eventually break.
Metal grain silos
New wild flora and fauna
Colds and Flu's and wild medicines.
Nameable items to make them unique.

What the bloody hell did you just fucking say about me, you little wanker? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Queen's Guard, and I’ve been involved in secret raids on the IRA, and I have over 50 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire UK armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my words. You think you can get away with talking bollocks to me over the Internet? Think again, prick. As we speak I am contacting my network of spies across MI5 and your IP is being traced by Scotland Yard right now so you better prepare for the storm, Bellend. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, chum. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the UK Army and Royal British Airforce and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your ass off the face of the continent, you little nonce. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. You didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn muppet. I will shat all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, bruv.

British version with a couple of improvements.

Good work Ian, A good school and teachers is what we need right now. There is a 50% sale on for lunar new years so hopefully we can keep a lot of the newcomers if we can teach them how to play.

#8 Re: Main Forum » rushing roads around farm plots - why? meta discussion » 2021-02-11 06:20:45

I agree the mass 3x3 farms around the well is very stale and I'm sure there are better ways of doing things.
Having farms spread around the town gives it a more organic feel and would leave things to be discovered. "Oh they have a berry and carrot field near the sheep pen, very handy."

I believe the rush to get the farms and pine needle paths done is to stop mass unorganised planting of crops by newbies.
However once a town is developed we shouldn't have to be stuck with a mass 3x3 farm around the well, we could change the layout.

I think the most efficient and pleasing (visual and for town exploration) would be to have farms all around the town near where the crops would be used.
A Stew making building with beans squash and corn planted in the garden.
A Taco shop with a pig pen, corn and beans nearby.
Compost area with cabbage growing next to it

I would LOVE to see a town where the crops were not planted around the well and instead cisterns surrounded the well in some fashion, and crops were planted in small gardens next to the buildings.

I think we shouldn't be afraid to tear up the 3x3 crops next to the well if we are building a designated area for them elsewhere.

#9 Re: Main Forum » Currency & Roleplay Shops » 2021-02-08 05:56:51

I had my first life in a couple of weeks last night and I saw a couple of things which impressed me. I'm going to have a little rant now.

First was I noticed that towns were building streets around their buildings and growing trees on the side. They look so good and work great for town planning.
Second was a Dye Shop, an interesting concept. It was well made with a sign out front and plenty of room inside, I just wish I was there when it was in action.
Third was I noticed some papers with five and ten dollars written on them, It seems like people have been experimenting with currency which is good to see.

I had a thought what if decks of cards used black dye and elder quill in the construction rather than pencil. It would be harder to replicate and would aid in it's adoption as a currency.
Decks have so much going for them for use as a basic currency, They are stackable, containable in pockets, you get 52 in a deck. The only flaw is people can make other decks quite easily.

In reference to town planning my one pet peeve is towns which have the same layout, Every crop around the well with pine flooring making 3x3 squares. We don't need to do that anymore.
I know it's easy to use but it begins to ware on me when I see the same layout in every town. We can have the well separate, We don't need to plant every crop in the same place, we don't need to do 3x3 every time. Towns would look so much cooler if the carrots and berries were outside the sheep pen. Corn outside the cow pen. Small houses with crops in the yard. People can have monopolies on crops which will help with trade, and if you really need a lot of them grow a patch yourself.

Much of the enjoyment I get out of lives these days is trying to get some trade going on. I'm going to write a short list of cool things you could build in town and RP.
Taco Shop - Fish and Chip Shop - Tool Shop - Radio News room - Library - Orphanage - Soup Kitchen - Dairy and Ice-cream Shop - Clothing Store - BB Snack Pack Shop
Tattoo Shop - Bakery Shop - Feast restaurant - Builders Guild (Stockpile construction materials) - Radio makers Guild - Horse rentals/Stables
Grave Keeper offering personalised notes for the burials - Yum/Wild food shop - Seafood Shop - Poultry seller (Cooked Geese, Omelette's) - Puppy and puppy food seller.

Keep in mind you need enough interaction with the public to make these shops worthwhile. Seafood shop might be boring because few people go looking for seafood.
You can just hang around the shop doing stuff until someone goes looking for your goods. Advertise your shop, tell people about it, ask the leader to send out an order informing the townsfolk.
You also want to place your shop in an area with a lot of foot traffic which may be hard to find in some towns.

#10 Re: Main Forum » Men and Boys Routinely Are Under Recognized for Sporting Ability » 2021-02-07 12:56:10

Okay so your solution is to remove and integrate the women's league into the men's so the 4th place winner can feel better about themselves for beating more opponents.
Whilst women may struggle to place in some of those athletic competitions.

I would say the same thing to the women's league. Yes they could try harder to place first in the women's league, Yes you got 4th place, be proud. Maybe they should give out certificates with what place they obtained.

Sex hormones don't create an imbalance in rules of the competition, they create an imbalance in performance based on something the participants cannot change. Men have an advantage in some athletic competitions and women have an advantage in others, to level the competition and make things fair for all competitors they should be competing against people with the same advantages or disadvantages as they have.

You could just see it as 4th place winners have the opportunity to do better next time and perhaps get a medal. The best women in that competition got recognized for being the best women to preform that day. In actuality having a women's league actually improves viewership of a competition and gets more people interested in the sport.

#11 Re: Main Forum » Men and Boys Routinely Are Under Recognized for Sporting Ability » 2021-02-07 11:59:53

So your solution to unrecognized boys and men i.e. 4th place winners is to dismantle the female league and not recognise female winners and that would somehow give the 4th place winners a medal. How about the 4th place winners just try harder or just say "Hey, I got 4th place. I guess you could say I'm pretty great."
Perhaps give out certificates saying what place they obtained during the competition.

The unfairness comes from role that the sex hormones have on body development.
Testosterone has a large role in muscle bulk and strength, increases bone density and causes bone marrow to release more red blood cells.

75 years ago on the 7th of February an allied convoy off Iceland was attacked by a wolf-pack of German U-boats which lead to the loss of seven allied ships and many lives lost.

on 7th of February Spoonwood responded to a transmission from Destiny call on an Ohol forum.

These are the facts! You draw your own conclusions sheeple.

#13 Re: Main Forum » idiots talk » 2021-01-16 10:03:49

How very dare you! I'll have you know that I am in fact the greatest mind the Ohol community has ever bore witness to. I am the mastermind who thought of crocks & tires stacking, only a genius with a 5D mind would have thought of that. I am the only one who can see the true genius of race restrictions and the beauty that was the Rift. Jason is a game making god and I will not hear otherwise from feebler minds than ours. Slinky I can see through your charade, you doubt Jason's genius at every turn. When Jason returns who do you think he will ask for advice, you?? He will turn to his faithful companion and contributor Jack Treehorn and I will ascend to be the next golden god of game making... I ... I

#14 Re: Main Forum » Currency & Roleplay Shops » 2021-01-16 07:26:12

Writing signs takes some time but I will consider it next shop I build.
I always have side jobs while running my business like expanding by building new rooms for a forge or copper storage.
The sign will be a good side project for me, thanks for the idea.

Paper money sounds really cool.
It would work well for me if it had some difficultly hurdles most people couldn't be bothered doing, for instance needing Alum or the colour green perhaps the stamping process could be tricky.
Perhaps making the money use up the alum water and then uses up the dye so you could only make one stack at a time.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Currency & Roleplay Shops » 2021-01-16 03:42:06

Best way to set up a roleplay business.

Choose a high end product not many people know how to make or the town is lacking.
Make a secured area to trade out of, Ideally a pine house or something.
Use tables or possibly a box as a trading counter. make sure the trading counter goes North/South so they can see behind the counter.
Run around the main area and tell people the shop is open, Kids and their mothers always want to visit before they get stuck into their life's project.
Or get the leader to put out an order advertising your shop.
Have fun.

I sometimes secure my shops with two doors one for the customers and one which I lock while I'm using the shop.
Once I'm finished with it I use a file on the key and then remove the lock and hide it for the next time I'm there.

Trading shops use to be good too, they need more space and I haven't done one recently so I'm not sure how well it would go.
A tool shop would be an interesting idea.

Currency is an idea which is unlikely to ever happen outside just roleplay.
However I thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss as there is not much being discussed on the forum recently.

If we had more people playing through all hours 100 -150+, I could imagine the use of currency.
Roleplay shops only work with 55+ players on the server from my experience.
I've been thinking what item we would use as this currency and doing some roleplay testing. (I opened a taco shop in one of our major towns)

I've roleplayed with decks of cards as a currency a couple of times before.
One of which is in a Twisted video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UdlWCF … BunnyGames
Decks are great because they are easily held and stackable and compact but it's easy for other people to make them and ruin the currency.

In my opinion malachite would be the best currency, It is easily found and can be turned into copper bars.
Gold could be a higher value currency as it is much rarer.

I was roleplay testing the idea a couple of days ago, I was trading one malachite for a pork/bean taco or a burrito.
I had many customers to my shop and by the end of my life I had employed a young man to carry on the business.
I came back in my next life to work for that man and ended up inheriting the business from him again.

Over those two lives I earned roughly 30 malachite each one represented a sale.
I was happy with what I had achieved and was happy that I could do something a bit different for the town to experience.
The townsfolk seemed to enjoy it, there were women naming there children after my delicious tacos.

I had a couple more lives in that town but it was mainly making the malachite into copper bars and giving people a tour of what I had built "My taco shop."

If A is a B
and B is a C
Therefore A is a C

The argument and premise are valid and sound thus the conclusion is true.

Oop sorry wrong thread.

Spoonwood never admits when he's wrong, you should know this by now Destiny. It reminds me of the "Any child is capable of being fertile." discussion. That went for 3 pages too.

#19 Re: Main Forum » Mating Mechanics Would Mean Less Incest Not More » 2021-01-11 10:29:38

I'm afraid you gents are just quibbling, waffling about a quarrel that is paltry and trite. I shan't equivocate, this squabble should surcease forthwith.

#20 Re: Main Forum » I made a OHOL quiz just for some fun » 2021-01-10 21:23:12

I got 13/45. Nice Quiz, It's a quite hard definitely for the more experienced players.

#21 Re: Main Forum » Does anybody recommend the game "Town of Salem" » 2021-01-03 22:15:25

Yeah it's simple and quite good. It's along the lines of Among Us and Space station 13. It had many different game modes. What makes the game worth playing is the communication between players and strategies. You will get your moneys worth for the $6. There are many different roles and some great roles for the good players too like a Sheriff, Jailer, Escort, Medic ect.

#22 Re: Main Forum » Why Small Map Concepts Are Boring Overall » 2020-12-11 06:42:38

Why are you complaining about a feature that doesn't exist anymore and is not coming back?

#23 Re: Main Forum » Idea - Seasonal Crops and Clothing » 2020-12-05 02:01:53

Yeah, I get that it is not needed to be a functional game however I believe it would add a lot to the final product. As for new assets I don't think they are needed if it doesn't get cold enough for snow. No visual difference is needed, however if you wanted a seasonal visual difference you could just change the hue of the screen so it's slightly blue or slightly more yellow in the warm season.

The reason I suggested adding this is to change up the meta so there is differences each life while making the world feel more alive and not static. The leaders could order, "The warm season has come quickly plant warm season crops we need to get some stored away". The cool season is a time for building, wood chopping, composting, and meat harvesting and meat pies. If you had a craving for tomatoes in the cool season it would be a reason to visit another town to trade for some.

The reason why I thought of this was because every developed town has fields full of grown crops which don't get harvested, children just go around picking one of each crop and are set for the rest of their life. farmers are told to maintain the fields rather than actually farm (figuring out what crop to plant, tilling the fields and harvesting when ripe).

However as always it's up to you Jason, I won't push too hard for this. I just thought it was an interesting idea and worth suggesting.

I've heard this before.  Plenty of times.  I think it's rather predictable, at least in hindsight.

JackTreeHorn wrote:

This also seems rather predictable.

JackTreeHorn wrote:

What is the self?  What does personal identity mean?  Why haven't philosophers been able to resolve what underlies those questions so that answering those questions become a matter of science instead of matters of philosophy?  There exist different notions of what the self is.  I don't see how personal death is certain with different notions of the self.

JackTreeHorn wrote:

One of family death.

People disown biological relatives sometimes in the real world.  Because of that it's not entirely clear what a family consists of.  Do disowned biological children count as in the family in reality, or does the social nature of family define its reality?  Also, people get adopted in the real world. The last genetic person of a family can adopt someone else.  So, I don't see how family death is certain.

JackTreeHorn wrote:

One of town death.

I would say that no town death exists in the real world, because there is no town life.  In other words, towns don't live, and thus they can't die.  Or do you think that towns live, and thus they can die?

Inevitable death is predictable but what isn't is how long you can enjoy the company of people you love, life is fleeting so make the most of it.
People have differing thoughts on the afterlife however what is certain is that one day the body will stop functioning and the person that was will cease to share this earthly plane of existence.
Science has a hard time pinning down what the self is because definitions change from one person to the next. It's the type of topic you could spend your whole life researching and still get nowhere.

Family is whatever you make it and it will end eventually, our species cannot live forever. The earth will eventually become uninhabitable, hopefully we can start colonising other planets before that day comes.

Towns can die too if you think about them in the metaphorical sense that you would consider Ohol towns to "die out". In the real world we call those towns ghost towns or ghost cities this often happens when the "lifeblood" of a town leaves. I've seen my fair share of ghost towns in the Australian outback, old mining towns that once the mining left town the town couldn't function anymore.

Everything comes to an end eventually, unlimited growth is impossible. everyone eventually dies; every country will eventually collapse, every species will eventually go extinct. You need to enjoy the present and enjoy the good while it lasts.

Life would be boring if everything stayed the same; people come and go, institutions rise and fall, nothing lasts for ever.

I hate to break it to you but in the real world some things are certain too, One of personal death.  One of family death.  One of town death. Family death and Town death may not happen in your lifetime but they will happen eventually. You need to make the most of the moment you are in, love the people around you because they won't be there forever.
