And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that
And may I say - not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes, it was my way

The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) acknowledges that pit bulls were originally bred to grapple with Bears & Bulls . Love-a-Bull, an organization focused on educating people about this breed, talks about how over time , they were culled and bred to have an inhibition toward biting humans. Both organizations talk about how they have been selectively bred in many circles to be fighters against other dogs, and specifically the most commonly used dog for fighting is the American Pit Bull Terrier according to the ASPCA.

During the late 1800s, Pit Bulls were described in The Dogs of the British Islands as 'being a little too violent in his quarrels to make him desirable'. You will find evidence that this breed primarily saw use as fighters, but it's very difficult to find any credible resources with proper citation that discuss this breed as a 'family friendly dog'. Unfortunately there is more real evidence to suggest that these dogs are vicious fighters than there is evidence of them being docile, and friendly.

As much as I'd personally like to believe they are just as lovably friendly and safe as many modern animal advocates suggest, it's a juxtaposition to their historic use and description. That being said, though they were bred to resist the temptation to bite humans, according to Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998 , they are the most likely breed to bite and kill humans. This truth may be very unpleasant, but it is still an objective truth.

#4 Re: Main Forum » Wool Hat society. (WHS) How to join. How To save OHOL » 2018-09-08 20:13:21

I have a few vital questions:
1. How do you identify a 'monarchy'?
2. What actions are you implying members take to detest 'monarchies'?
3. Why would you only scold neglected farms and not fix them instead? If you can fix it but don't then you are part of the neglectful.
4. Why would you target new players specifically when deciding who to not raise? While raising a Veteran Player may help the village in the moment... Teaching New Players is what helps the game continue on past that single village.
5. Why is the only method for enforcing adherence to The Code '...tell them politely to stop.'? Seems rather ineffective in the event of a member going full rogue.
6. What kind of Government is the White Hat Society? It's not a Republic (No consent of the people needed), Democracy (No one is elected), nor Monarchy/Dictatorship (One of your core tenants is to detest these), so we're left with Oligarchy or Aristocracy, and both of which are Monarchies minus the crowned centerpiece.

Hello, and welcome back to random player feedback hour.

Today I'd like to talk about the Best Item in OHOL. This one is a bit subjective since 'best' can carry different meanings based on the preference of the person; however, this is why it is interesting to ask these questions. What is the best Item in OneLife in regards to your personal preference? This can mean the best: calorie giver, the item you had the most memorable experience with, favourite recipe process, your favourite tool, or even your favourite animal. Feel free to list a few items, if you can't pick one, but I'd like to see a reason why you like it/them so much!

I for one find the Fruit Boot to be one of the best items in the game, and it's for a few reasons. The Fruit Boot finds its origin in a bug which allowed a player to wear the cactus fruit on their feet! To do this glitch a user would fill their hunger bar, and then while full they would 'eat' the fruit, but instead of being eaten it was applied on the foot as if it were a shoe. A user was then able to carry around extra food, and it became such a nice tool that instead of being removed the glitch was re-purposed into the Fruit Boot. The Fruit Boot resembles a mastery of the Desert in a way; it contains the skin of the deadly rattlesnake, and requires a knife and needle with thread to be made, then has the benefit of holding the cactus fruit. It also happens to be one of the coolest looking shoes in the game.

So, post below what you think is the best!

We're looking for an item and a reason here. All items welcome, but only one is the worst!

I'd openly post what I think is the worst item, but that might defeat the purpose of this post...

This .ico file contains a desktop icon in the style of the onelife icon with everyone's favourite footwear, the Fruit Boot. Gone will be the pondering what the abstract shape in the icon art is (Spoilers: an earthy L), and in its place something truly its own.

Installation:
1. Follow the Link below, and download the file using the download button in the upper right corner, and place the file somewhere easy to find. It is an arrow pointing down onto a line.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dx1_Ad … sp=sharing

2. Right click your onelife desktop icon, and then select 'Properties'.

3. On the Shortcuts tab, select 'Change Icon...', then find the onelife_fruit_boot.ico, and simply apply it.

(P.S. I fully support the theft of this .ico ;^)

Here's a little food for thought about the concept of Karma and it being involved in systems of different kinds, and the possibility for different outcomes, and effectiveness.

From what I gather, the inspiration for the Karma system comes from Reddit. Well briefly I'd like to point out something about why Reddit Karma works, and things that hold back the OHOL version of it.
For one, Reddit has active mods which have all the text of what's been said and done in front of them, and the power to actually affect what impact Karma has due to circumstance. In particular it's mentioned that Reddit uses Karma, or rather Downvotes, as a method to weed out spammers, which are easily identified and quickly banned.
OHOL on the other hand is an extremely time sensitive, and temporary state game, which has ambiguous flavors of interactions ranging from as simple and rather harmless as snatching a basket that isn't yours to go forage, to as cold hearted as murder, with no moderators aside from the Public flow of Karma and hours of gameplay to buffer.

Both systems are open for abuse, however Reddit Karma gives you a chance to explain your situation, albeit people have more open access to individual Reddit posts than your average OHOL will have access to a griefer (or non-griefer) name. Meanwhile in OHOL, you are at the mercy of potential Mobs with such a system, where the fear of digital death in an hour long game is also there. It's possible things go exactly as intended, certainly. I just think it might be like stacking a house of cards on top of a set of dominoes, either it's something new and cool to knock over, or an accident waiting to happen.

I think, spawn option would benefit this game greatly.
1. Choose if spawn as adult. If so, one hunger tile less.
2. Choose spawn sex. If so, one huger tile less.
3. Choose location: wild Eve or civilization. Little hard to code (maybe check for spawns characters presence of other players?). One hunger less if any option choosed.
4. In game option. Allow flirting chat to have greater chance of kids. Lets say one fertile woman, many mans in tribe, waiting for kid. Increase this by saying to characters close "I love you x" "I love you y", "I love you too". Or first "I love you", "Love", "Darling". Flirt option after touching somebody else (interaction left mouse). Random babies still possible, but longer term games would save girls and at least one man.

Just one hunger less? Sorry but that's not really a cost, nor should you be able to choose sex or location. I could maybe see being born as an Eve or Baby, like a 'Start a Lineage' vs 'Join Lineage' type ordeal, but that's about the only idea I could see working from the list. Also, as for 'flirting', phrases like 'I love you' aren't exclusive to lovers, and the words 'love' and 'darling' both make up casual speech patterns still in some regions. Examples: "Howdy darling, how're y'all doing?", "Cheers love.", "I love you, [Insert Sibling Name Here]."

#12 Re: Main Forum » When will bell feature be introduced? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ » 2018-05-24 21:47:05

They often lead to long running towns. They take at least 18 hours to craft. If you heard a bell and you didn't eventually get to a town, you were very unlucky. It's a risk you take to follow the bell.

#13 Re: Main Forum » Most satisfying kills. » 2018-05-18 08:38:36

Ah yes, how many times shall I recall my efforts of growing up with a murderer running around, finally becoming old enough to craft a knife for myself, and surprising them with a sudden case of the shivs. It's not really a fun process, and there isn't any reward, just clean up the mess and get back to playing the game, that's when the fun starts. What really sucks is that you gotta look at their useless corpse for an egregious amount of time, but it's better than having to look at them being useless, waiting for a chance to stab some random player. There's better games for fighting other players, so it's kinda a waste of time here, bottom of the barrel experience at best, I get more satisfaction from killing snakes.

selective murder - you must feel good about that lol

There's a word for that, Serial Killer. I'd argue Gendercide, except killing women who went through menopause isn't concurrent with male exclusive targeting. Just for funsies tho, so it's totally justified, right? Sometimes it's hard to play the game you know, so you gotta take out your frustrations the easiest way you can, and bring the experience of others down to your level. Granted, I can think of probably 100 better games with more rewarding PVP mechanics in an afternoon, but if you're bad at those games, OHOL PVP has you covered, there's just so many unsuspecting people you can click on.

#16 Re: Main Forum » What is combat in this game? » 2018-05-10 10:58:58

How combat works:
Roll the dice, see what you get, have advantage as attacker, more people to click.
Flip the coin, drop your knife, pick it up, drop it again, your enemy mimicking your moves.
Whoever registers first can call the other a noob, but everyone knows what really transpired,
You got Lucky.

Obviously it is not for everyone and no one is forcing you. I just thought some people might prefer simplicity of Facebook. Possibility to talk 1on1 or just share pictures.

Discord does that even more simply, and doesn't use your information to target you with ads. Given the kind of people I've seen on the internet, I quite fancy my home and family being mysteries to others, outside what I openly share.

#18 Re: Main Forum » How to deal with different opinions on the internet. » 2018-05-08 03:10:32

Ironically I've seen cases where both ignoring and interacting with the griefers escalated what they did.
But, passive silence is a thing you can do, yes.

#21 Re: News » Update: A Message for the Future » 2018-05-05 05:43:27

It really does suck that ponds can get in the way, considering how it's very much a potential to block a whole costly letter.
What, do you think Letters grow on Trees?
Also, poor Dickville, they won't be able to have their name in the middle slot.

#22 Re: Main Forum » A leson to the "No Boys" civs. » 2018-05-05 02:19:57

I think there is only one logical solution to this.
The Original Poster wants us all to stab BB boys. Actually stab them, don't let them starve or tell them sorry, stab them, and give a prayer of fertility for a girl.

I am glad that the future generations will be on the receiving end of such a thing of beauty. Perhaps it might even inspire the naming of their Children some day...

#24 Re: Main Forum » A leson to the "No Boys" civs. » 2018-05-04 17:57:44

All that village wanted was to live on, and so you destroyed it yourself. All of their hours gone because you weren't what they needed to survive, for the few moments you spent as a baby boy to take it personally. The game gave you a chance to do good, and look at what you did instead.

#25 Re: Main Forum » [Disc] Biomes that you suggest » 2018-05-03 15:24:19

The only biome which feels missing is the Jungle Biome.

Steppe, Highland, variants of Forest, variants of frozen land, and variants of mountainous regions are unnecessary, as existing biomes supply similar materials, and would offer little room for the biome to stand out like they currently do.
