A change to the lineage ban time limit

https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLife/ … 73911dfa96

Used to be 1.5 hours lived in game, or 24 hours.

Now 1.5 hours lived in game, or 3 hours.

Re: A change to the lineage ban time limit

Good change this should prevent towns dying due to ban but without a system in place it will get used by people who want to play in the same town continuously unless you're ok with that.

Maybe getting a ping of the coordinates of the player every minute and if over a certain amount of time is spend at a certain radius around birth location then increase time to wait, time to wait could be exponential depending on how many hours you spent in that area.

Spending time somewhere else could reduce time to wait for the other places. To not completely lock the person out of town if his time to wait gets too high.

Basically the more time you spend in a place the more you have to wait to get reborn there and spending time somewhere else lowers the time to wait for other places.

If it has been three hours since you last played in a town, you are not playing in it continuously.     You are waiting at least three generations and then coming back to see if it is still there.

You could already do the same thing before this change by playing for ninety minutes in-game.   The only difference is that now, you can go take a break, spend some time with your real family and then go log back in to check on your virtual village.   Some people like to play as Eves.  Some people like to play in big cities.  Some people like to play in the same village again, from time to time.   I don't see any reason to prevent any of them from playing the lives that bring them the most fulfillment.    As long as you aren't hurting other people's enjoyment of the game, there's no harm in doing what you love.

Re: A change to the lineage ban time limit

3 hours is average 6 gen, minimum 3,5 and max 9

i think is good but it should be a minimum of 40-45 min played (you are old to have kids) also compensates for not dead before 30 coming back which is helping new players, also 40 means the Eve need to go to Elder age

if you play 3 more hours this still means that if you get back then you have to play 5 hours straight
so i think each time you played in a family, should show a timer when you can get back to area, and if the family still alive

if it's 3 hours then should be higher chances to go back or simply a button to go back when the timer is finished? people would suicide a lot
and quite weird to play a game then watch 2 movies and join back big_smile
maybe the played time counts twice and normally takes 4 hours

so if you play 1 hour elsewhere then you can get back 2 hours later
if play 2 hours elsewhere you can get back right away
sure this is 60 min lifes and the best of us barely has around 45 min average lifes

you could also do it like if you reach age 14 and have a kid successfully raised at least, then get a point to skip 30 min of timer and if you don't become adul than it doesn't matter to timer
in case of males dunno, you cant have kids and only support activities would be possible so not sure.

That's your point of view, you say it's ok but that's not necessarly the point of view of everyone.

For me personally i dont think you should even be able to chose where you are born in the first place, you are born where you are born and that's it you do the best with your life and the cards you are dealt with.

But i can understand from a gameplay perspective why this is an issue right now and for many reasons:

- Towns too far from each other so no ways to really interact (visit new places, find new home etc) .

note: this is only an issue because of the two points following, towns far form each other is not necessarly an issue since there is means of travelling and transportation but since the towns die out and map is infinite achieving a point where travelling is actually viable is impossible.

- All villages end up dying and being lost in infinity, it's like if irl you knew that everything you do will only benefit a couple more generations then everything gets lost.

- Map is infinite so even if a lineage survives a lot longer it ends up alone surrounded by ghost towns.

- Death rate is way too high to have limitations on life rate.

Re: A change to the lineage ban time limit

Interestingly, I just had my first life in a very long time where I was able to play in the same village, but it was thanks to the "Coming together" update rather than the lineage ban fix.   I played a life in one village where I built a long road headed east out of town.   When I died of old age, I was born as the third son of an Eve.   Unfortunately, my only sister died and my mother grew too old for more girls.  Instead of letting ourselves die, my mom, older brother, and me decided to stick it out and built up our little eve camp, even though we had no children to inherit our work.   After my mom died, I went on a search for iron ... and discovered a road leading north and there were living people!     It was quite a distance to the north of our camp, but close enough to walk.    I headed back and told my brother about the town.    We both headed north with what little we had.

When we finally reached the town, I realized it was the same village from my last life.   Same bakery, same berry patch, same road heading east that I helped make.   Of course, I was now an outsider and didn't speak the language.   But nobody tried to stab me, so I settled in to be productive and help the village.    I learned a few words in the village's language, but I mostly just went about my business and pretended I was a deaf/mute.   Fortunately it was a ginger village and I was a brown-haired white guy wearing a hat, so I think most people just didn't even register me as an outsider.   I was a little on edge, in case someone got stabby, but my life was peaceful.  Other than the random knife murders common to any village.
