Tone down colors

I love the new clothing update and all the new colors now available. Its so much fun. Thanks Jason!

That said, towns now look like someone consumed LCD and moved everyone to one of those beatles music videos.

Could we tone down on the brightness of the colors? Neutralize them a bit?

Something like this:

Instead of this:

Re: Tone down colors

I agree. The bright primary colors don't seem to fit with the rest of the game which has a nice balanced pallet. I do think it'd be OK to have bright colors as an option but in human history those were hard to make.

Re: Tone down colors

I prefer the bright colors for this update as I think it makes it more fun to run around in crazy colors. That and it makes mixing and matching pieces look like you fell into a bin of laundry which is equally as hilarious.

Sure eventually maybe throw in some more realistically colored clothes but I think it's fine having bright colors too.

fug it’s Tarr.

Re: Tone down colors

Maybe colors should fade after washing. New cloths will not stay brand new forever.
It would be nice to see some other stage of decay and not just rags.

Also long dress needs accesories, it looks weird with furr backpack.

Re: Tone down colors

Fading colors is a good idea, and very easy to do.  Will do that later... and you could "re-dye" them to make them bright again.

For the actual colors, and why they are bright-ish, those are the actual scanned colors of the markers that I have.  My yellow is that yellow.  My green is that green.  I colored s splotch, scanned it, and eyedroppered it, with no further adjustment.

I do it this way to make sure everything is color-consistent (if everything comes out of the same set of markers).  Instead of "eyeballing" colors manually.

Re: Tone down colors

I strongly agree.  Natural dyes are significantly less vibrant and strong than modern dyes.   And historically, strong bright dyes tended to be much rarer and harder to make than weaker dyes that faded quickly.   There is a reason why deep blues and vibrant purple are associated with royalty.   These were not the colors available to the common folk.  Nor were they the kind of color you get if you can't wash your clothes routinely.

Perhaps a toned down version for now.   More vibrant colors get unlocked with tech progression.   But more faded blue/red/yellow would look better with the rest of the in-game colors.  Do you have any other markers to use as a color reference?

Hunter green, Indian red, and denium blue might work better.

Re: Tone down colors

Well indigo dye was rather strong.
Indian yellow is a very strong dye too, so is rose madder.
Just the hue is very wrong for the colours, but that's because they're markers big_smile
Natural dyes are all sorts of strenghts. I think it's only the green which seems somewhat off to me.

Speaking of that. We have onions, we could have onion dyes. It's a ncie brown.

Wait... You draw the content IN REAL LIFE!? and scan them to implement them TO THE GAME!?

Re: Tone down colors

I think the colors are fun and vibrant smile. Not everything has to be realistic, and there are a number of natural pigments that produce vivid colors. If anything, one day we could just get a set of pastel dyes, and I can live my pink boi dreams.

Re: Tone down colors

natural colours trump any neon colour any day. I'm surprised the base white colour isn't more like the white apron, they're made from the same material.
