Update: War Report

fL1N3jK.png

I'm back from PAX West with a bunch of bug fixes and improvements.  The arcs have generally been pretty stable during this time, lasting one to four days before we get down to a single family.  I'm still not fully satisfied, and I'll be putting a lot more effort into making it even better in the future, but this is a good place to turn my attention to other matters, namely the enormous list of user-reported bugs that have built up.  This week, I got through all of the reported and reproducible code bugs.  Next week, I'll be tackling the list of content bugs.

The biggest change this week is the war report feature:  mousing over someone from another family will now tell you if you're currently at war or at peace with that family.  War status changes should also let you know, but what happens if you're born into a war or peace that was declared generations ago?  Now you have a way of finding out.

The road-following code was also overhauled, and it now works perfectly in all situations, including diagonal roads that join other roads, double-backs, and so on.  If there's a viable road ahead, you will follow it.

Other small fixes:

--Parked horse cart no longer overlaps weirdly with the object to the left

--You can paste text into chat with ctrl-v (requested by a player with brain damage who has trouble typing)

--Single-click set-down on surrounded tiles.

--No more ghost monument locations after an apocalypse.

--Fixed a glitch that allowed children to pick up swords and cars via swapping what they're holding.

Good fixes.

I'm flying high. But the worst is never first, and there's a person that'll set you straight. Cancelling the force within my brain. For flying high. The simulator has been disengaged.

Elongate the arcs somehow. There is no resource shortage at all. 3 days at the very least. We need a way for players to create new familys if you want to keep this end condition. We don't need to battle the griefers who want to end arcs directly. Just give us something we can work on that proofs the rift can keep going.

He mentioned in the report that he's not satisfied with the arcs but that they are in a good enough condition that he can pivot to other, pressing, matters. That'll come StrongForce--it's on it's way. This week we'll get to try out these new roads and considering how the global road project started by Morti every arc is a growing into a considerable part of the game experience, we should see some evolution/different play.

Everyone talks about how great milk is, no one talks about how many bb cows you must let die...

Re: Update: War Report

Just had a great life that centered all around establishing peace between our group and the neighboring group - it sounds so simple, but it really is an intergenerational effort! The elders aren't usually the people who first meet, and neither are the kids, so this means you have young adults making first contact, kids who do the translating, and then elders who are finally brought into the loop at the very end of the negotiation to seal the deal!

Very pleasing - when after years of trying our elders finally succeeded in calling peace, we had a mighty feast, and there was much dancing. Then the elders died. We buried them and planted a rose by their graves.

Definitely a new experience, and a life worth living!

.. oh something I've noticed though - we're getting a lot of reincarnated people now, there was 3 or 4 in this game, it seemed like more than usual.. I don't really like it when that happens, it breaks the lore of it. Like you're explaining to a grandbaby who this person was and the life they lived and how their memory must be honored, and then some guy walks over to the grave and says "This is me"

Annoying right? I mean it would be in real life too.. I'm trying to tell a story great great great grandpa!!
