I would find some band members and we would tour trough the towns with our horse dolly and give concerts in sheep pens.

Map pull is available in client but disabled in settings folder. Even if you enable it, server has to have it enabled in its settings as well to allow map pulls. Official servers have this diabled.

You could somehow reuse this code though to work on map data received during gameplay (generating image on the fly or storing map data and drawing it all at once at the end).

Ah I see. Well that would be one option. But what about the folderCache.ccp?  There it is compressing data. So before the data gets compressed you could save the raw data maybe and work with it?

It's very easy to dump map chunks if you modify the game source (they are decompressed in the game before they are used).

They aren't sent to stdout because they are pretty big.

Okay, I went in the gamesource and then to game.cpp there is the "mapPullMode". So I guess when I activate it and compile the game I can pull the map?

I guess I get a file like the "tutorial1" then? But it wont pull all changes constantly? Its more a momentum?

Just grow carrots indoor, maybe infront of the Smith, so the angry Smith and his big family that is running around the Smith-area can eat carrots while they shout at each other.

This would give a good gif xD

Map chunks and map updates include item info as well - you can see full data in replay files, not stdout.  Map chunks are gzip compressed though, so just text editor won't be enough to view it.

Thank you. Hmm.

Jason posted once a picture from a "satellite" view of the map. Could you generate such a pic with the informations stored in this file?

I looked fast gzip up and tried to decode the file, but I guess it's just some text parts that are gziped?

I was wondering how the objects are shown on my screen. So I looked into the files and just found in the stdout-file a load of a map chunk. When I picked up an object it was also shown in the stdout. But how does it know that on this position is a gooseberry bush for example?

Is it really? I don't eve much but I don't usually have much trouble keeping myself safe from cold even in cities without deserts.

someone suggested in the forums a plant that would work as a bowl sustitute. There are indeed jungle plants like that into ral life, some cn even be used to make underwear, this could definitely be a thing.

There was a thread about temperature. It's an insane difference

You know what's harder than all of these?  Making a railroad track that is actually Useful.

(In all seriousness, has this ever been done?)

Railroad town had three lines, two of which I've never seen.

Sheep pen to bakery - Mutton to bakery & returns pies to pen -

Sheep pen to animal grave yard - Sheep bones to animal graveyard & returns empty baskets.

Bakery to smith - Pies to smith - smith returns empty plates, new plates, bowls & sends springs to oven, to be returned later.

I loved that place, even though I had to repair the rails + carts every other life due to griefers.

Yeah, it was a nice place. I just think there is still room for optimization.

Never been murdered because of something like that. How bad can a functional and aesthetic structure be? It doesn't hurt anyone.

There was once a legendary Town on server 3. It was called ovenpost. It had quadratic areas that were seperated by fences.
It was a really good looking town, but then the day x came and a bad guy took all the straight shafts from the fences - All - and there were everywhere fences he then took a flint chip and made all Straughn shafts to tongs.

Well in the end the good force won and the town name was written in huge letters with the tongs, but it was several days a complete mess.

#12 Re: Main Forum » Sheep pen/trash pit, counter intuitive for new players » 2018-09-25 16:44:27

Good thought.

Also fences get often griefer bcs people just need fast a straight Branche for whatever, then the Branche disappears in town and the Branche for the fence is missing forever.

So I would suggest to make fences solide and add a gate to the game where people can pass, but animals will stay inside. Only way to get an animal into the pen would be to put it on a lasso and go with it in the pen.

Removing the fence would be a two man project, maybe one uses the shovel and the other person pulls it out of the ground.

Also rails should get a fix before release.

Just permaban this dude.
Conflicts should be a part of the game, but this dude and a few others are killing it.

One day their will be only donkeys playing the game and after a few boring days they will also vanish from the game.

Dear folks,

I want to announce to you the new Railway Company of MIDDLES BURG - "MIDDLE BURG RAILWAYS".
The Company was founded just yesterday. I found an abandoned track that someone started and I finished it since I wanted to know how rails work. So after I made tests I claimed the rails and started expanding the track. Since the next town is far away we are hiring now!

We are looking for sheparts, farmers, smiths, miners and lumberjacks!

You get payed in shares of the company or horses! If you want to join feel free to hire!

What we need to do:

Keep MIDDLES BURG's farms and food supply running, finish the tower bell and expand the working area. Then we can go over to the production of railkits!

MIDDLES BURG RAILWAYS - Connecting the Towns!

Unfortunately the cart and rail broke bcs someone double clicked the end tongue So we got at the moment: 12 tracks installed!

I understand Jason not wanting to make it part of the main game, popping at screen edges can't be in the default client even if it isn't a big deal.

But the game really is terrible without it once you're used to it.

A nice compromise would be for Jason to expose a few more variables in ini files to allow anyone to modify it easily in a notepad without having to first install a linux VM and compile it themselves.

That way, once you've modded game files you are "officially unsupported" so popping becomes acceptable.
