I can update the map with any more information you guys provide and see if we can come up with more names for these places. The town I call Snowberry had it's berries dug up for example and could probably use a new name.

I don't recognise these towns, do you know where they are compared to the other towns on the map? Or maybe I just haven't been in that area recently.

So someone built a bunch of oven bases in Sheeport, blocking the entrances to all rooms. The villagers apparently had to tear down the walls to get inside.

Yeah I spent a couple of lives on damage control in Sheeport. It had a griefer oven-blocking themselves in the storeroom/bakery eating pies while a mass murderer roamed the town. I was more impressed that we managed to form a posse and tear down walls on a public server without voice chat.

I personally was thinking of Sheeport as Woolvile, but oh well, not that it really matters anyway. Sheeport makes just as much sense.

And woah! it's great to see something happening to the north. I build the road from C to A mostly by myself, until near the end. Then I helped build the road connecting fron A to B, and I was the one who then branched it off to north in between that road, all the way up to the desert. After that I stopped playing due to some dyck killing the sheep farm in sheeport.

Btw, there used to be a town to the left of Wellington. Though, it was left in ruins due to newbies eating all the carrots from the farm and dooming the townsfolk to starve to death. I wonder what happened to it. Last time I saw a road connected to that town, all the way up to Wellington.

I respect Jason's decission to refuse selling his game on steam. I hope it plays out well for him in the future.

I mean, yes, a lot of them don't seem to like taking care of babies, leaving them behind most of the time. But in the end it's thanks to them that the game gets more publicity.

I took shreenshots of the two places where I spent most of the time these days.

These are two villages, very near to each other.

The upper photos show the kitchen and storage room of the felonious north-eastern village.

The lower photos are from the messier south-western village.

Does anyone recognize these? I'd love to know their names.

I've been playing in those towns a lot myself the last couple days. The town shown on your screenshots was starting to get really big. It had a little sheep farm next to the storage room bellow the kitchen. But some griefer killed all the sheeps and wasted food supplies and what not. Is the sheep farm back up again? The camp was doing so well in terms of wool clothings. As being seen on your screenshots a lot of people are wearing wool clothes. It's good to know that people have made sure that they're not wasting any of the clothes.

Also, I don't think you can see any of the towns shown on your screenshots in relation to the map that's being shown by OP on this thread. I could be wrong tho. But I know that this town has like 2 to 3 other towns connected with it. Two towns to the left of the one you are showing, and one to the south.

So, this, to me, suggests that the robot is a possibility, not implemented in the game at all and that the very premise of the game is that we start at the beginning and eventually lead to future technology, NOT that it already exists in the game.

But yeah, maybe he didn't explain it explicitly enough. Email him and ask for a refund.

And that's my point. He didn't make a good job of making it clear of whether what we are seeing in the trailer is already in the game or not.

I'm not asking for a refund. I had my fair share with the game and got my enjoyment out of it.

I think if you watched the trailer and didn't come away with the understanding that Jason is adding technology week to week, leading up to the eventual possible presence of robots, and that the robots (end game tech) were not in the game from launch, then you weren't paying attention. If you bought the game thinking that all of the tech was available from the beginning, then you were very much mistaken, but I'm sure Jason will refund you all the same, since he has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and he's a swell guy.

I didn't pay enough attention? How come everything he is showing in the video is shown in a way that he has already implemented them in the game, as of right now? "LIVE inside the game", as he told us. Not even the video description gives you any information in regards to how some of the things shown in the trailer aren't out yet and are basically just concept art.

Explain to me how me and some other people didn't pay enough attention here.

And btw, I'm sure that Jason didn't plan this intentionally. I get the idea as of why he decided to make the trailer the way he did. But I think it's overall not the right way he should have done it after effect.

Well, when massacres happen in real life, people are often caught by surprise and a lot of people die.
It's not like the little kids in the classroom "get wounded" and then have a chance to fight back against the maniac.

It's still a video game...
Obviously some mechanics aren't working out well when you have them feel close to realism.

Imagine you could 1 shot everyone as McCree with just one body shot in Overwatch. Or 1 shot someone as Soldier with just one body shot. Or 1 shot someone as Widowmaker with just one simple body sho- oh wait, that was actually a thing. And it got changed! I wonder why. You see the problem here? its just not fun. It's stupid and takes no skill at all to kill people by just simply left clicking them.

There is basically no combat system to speak off right now. You just left click once on someone and they are donzo. Is that what you call an intuitive and engaging combat system?

(trying to counter argument what Jason apperently was saying in some of his earlier comments that he has made on this matter of subject. I thought you were agreeing with him by quoting him there. So I'm sorry if I made it seem like I was attacking you with my comment.)

#13 Re: Main Forum » Seriously, why is murdering people so ridiculously easy in this game? » 2018-03-20 06:17:07

The whole 1 shot, 1 kill thing, together with the fact that you can't even block or counter an attack, has you leaving the game with a bad taste in your mouth.
The combat system needs to be worked on asap. It's just stupid that you die immidiately after getting shot by one frickin arrow.
Same goes for a knife. You shouldn't die instantly just because you get stabbed or cut once.

It's just the question, does something like fertile need to be a valuable ressource?

This has a very easy explanation. The game has the base principle: evolve or die. Before you reached a stable point after you planted some carrots. Plant, wait, harvest half, wait for seeds, replant, repeat. You can survive without need for any further progress.
With the new system - you can use the old system only for some time. You need to gather more fertile soil which is limited in nature... or evolve and learn how to compost.

When you start composting - you reached current next "stable point". Which I'm sure will change in the future. Berries will be harded to farm, reeds won't regrow (or will regrow slower) so you will need more wheat faster or something like that... After which we find next "stable point" even futher that needs even more steps and more people cooperating at the same time.... at which point Jasong will make that even harder... and so on and so on.

I believe the end point of the game is to never have the "Stable point" like we had with carrots and have with compost now - forcing us to evolve with every update. I imaging that after we reach "modern" tech, there won't be any "chekpoints" at which you could say "ok, now I'm fine for a while, I can spend few real time days teaching newbies how to play and we will try to jump over next tech step after everyone is familiar with what we have now." Reaching modern tech will be one sprint where you get more which forces you to get even more.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's kind of what I thought afterwards when I made the post. It all makes sense now. ^^

Well he wanted to prevent stagnation with that, which does make sense. Before the change you could just always leave one carrot in each row and easily survive off carrots forever. Without spending any more ressources. Now you actually have to think of a solution and progress in order to survive.

And its realistic too. In reality you can't just forever use the same soil either.

Hmm, I see. I guess that makes sense then. It's not like the biggest deal for me anyway. I just thought it was a odd change.

I was wondering that too. Eventually I stopped worrying about it. Good to know that it's a modding thing.

I would find it really childish if youtube or twitch were to ban you if you were to show the nudity of this game. I mean, come on. I know that a teacher would kick you out of the class or something if you were to draw a dick on paper and show it to him. But still. xD

Yup, its almost harsh to say, but it kinda feels like false advertisement. "We're live inside the game!" implies, that what he shows us is part of what's included in the game and that in theory, I could build a house like that too. Thats a clear lie. I'm not sure if I actually bought the game back then if I would've known that content isn't even close to what's beeing promised there.

However the game itself still conviced me, so I'm not even mad. Already had alot hours of fun well worth the 20 dollars. Plus I'm sure that Jason will at least add enough content to keep the experience enjoyable for a while. But I can understand anyone who feels kinda scamed because of that.

Im with you. I also got a lot of playtime out of the game. Even though I didn't like the game at first, it had a charm to it that I really liked. I'm a sucker for 2D games. I'm a sucker for bad controls/tank controls. And I was looking for a survival game like this for quite some time. I like the idea of the game and it has it's fun moments.

And yeah, Jason seems like a passionate developer. I'm sure he is going to deliver, at least from the content side of things. Or so I would believe. I'm not so sure about balancing the game tho, or tweaking the controls and gameplay to a more enjoyable level, or fixing bugs, etc. because so far I'm not too impressed with some of the changes that were made to the game in regards to its gameplay.

For instance, why did Jason make it so that fertile ground despawns after your carrots turn into seeds? to make the gamer harder? if anything it's making farming just more annoying. Most of whats visible in the video is already in game.
With exception of:
- first room (which is clearly stated that rest of the game does not look like that YET)
- roads, cars, monorail & "future tech", which are only displayed as Jason talks that he will TRY to add them AHEAD of players reaching those point.

Remember that there also is second trailer which is actually the FIRST trailer and is more realistic to the content.

"Hello, my name is Jason Rohrer. Well, at least that's what I look like in my new game One Hour One life. Yup, this is it. We are live inside the game right now."

That line alone implies to me that what he is showing to me right now is supposed to be in the game right now.

Also, I don't really consider the other video as a trailer video. It was just a preview of the objects of the game, but not much was really shown about the gameplay.
From an CGI trailer that's to be expected. But from a trailer that tries to act like it's showing real gameplay footage.. eh, I don't know man. It seems kind of iffy to me.

Isn't it kind of fked up that some of the stuff that's being shown in that trailer isn't even in the game.. yet? Who tells us that any of the futuristic stuff is going to be added to the game later down the line? maybe something happens and Jason decides that it's not a good idea to implement that stuff. Or maybe he does actually implement futuristic objects, but they're worse from what we got to see in the trailer? Like no transit train thingy and no robots that you can build, but instead only get like futuristic walls and floors and lights and what not. Things that are a given. Same goes for the modern house objects. Non of that stuff is in the game yet, and is obviously just there for show.

I honestly feel lied at looking back at it now. When I saw the trailer before I decided to buy the game, I expected all of that stuff to be in the game already. But as it turned out that's not the case, and may probably won't be the case until much much later.

What's your opinion about this?

#23 Re: Main Forum » Ideal Farm Layout for Adv. Civilization (edit: *Ideal Carrot Farm) » 2018-03-19 23:07:26

You know what would be nice? to be able to stash a whole carrot row in one basket. Doesn't seem all that unrealistic, does it?
Or being able to pick the whole row at once instead of just one carrot at the time.

I think that would make the farming process certainly more enjoyable and less of a pain in the butt.

#24 Re: Main Forum » Another Carrot Farming thread » 2018-03-19 23:05:28

Yeah, I did the same thing with the milkweed farm yesterday. When I expendad it I was thinking about how it''s always so annoying to pick the stems and having to run back and forth the field to combine put them away or to combine them with another stem on the ground. I started leaving a whole row empty horizontal after each seeded row. Picking milkweed wasn't such a pain in the butt anymore after that.

But.. as things stand right now, people will just mess up what you build and render your efforts pointless. Hopefully more people learn to put spaces between fertile grounds in the future, so that picking them isn't nearly as much of a pain and waste of time anymore.
