Also on the list this week:

If bear attacks are common, people can use fences around their towns to protect themselves, right?

So..can we shoot over those fences?

I have been playing for a couple of years, reading the forum and mostly keeping my opinion to myself and just playing the game however the update and my birth allowed for it.  I am sometimes disappointed that the game I purchased and fell in love with no longer exists.  And have been thrilled when VOG chose to participate with me in game.  Like this game shows we, as people, persevere.  I don't keep up on the news, so often I am surprised by the update i find myself playing.  Then I rush back to the forum to sort out WTF I am supposed to do now.  I like this game. I am a hard worker and peaceful player that enjoys exploring.  I see what needs doing and do my best to fill the voids.

So when I was playing tonight, while gathering wood I saw that griefers had woken a few bears. I took the long way home, grabbed the arrows and headed back sure of my knowledge prepared to become the huntress.  And I stood proudly upon my object, held the shift key and was bitten.  I ran home was healed and headed back to finish the job.  And was bitten by a stupid bear.  Stupid me.  I have watched bear wipe out villages as wave after wave are released and lead back to the town.  Now to rise to the occasion and create a new line of defense, a new play-style.

In this game as in life we are faced with changes.
Will you choose to be conquered by the newest manifestation of someone else's dream?
Or will you log on just one more time for one more life?

Yeah, with the trees, it was for consistency.

Originally, only "Hardwood" trees were hungry work.  This made sense.

But then Juniper weren't hardwood.... so how does that make sense?

I could, eventually, adjust this somewhat, or make some trees not hungry work (probably pine would be a good candidate, making them a source for gathered firewood).  Though actually, pine burns poorly (lots of soot) so people don't burn much pine in real life.

Burning softwood in the fireplace/home is sooty TRUE
But for survival you want softwood because the sap/pitch makes it burn easy and hot!  This is why pine needles and boughs are great fire starter.
And this one was asking about early survival.
Just a trained survivalist IRL thinking out loud....

#5 Re: News » Update: Whole New World » 2019-08-09 18:35:32

So I have been playing for a while now.  Every update comes with ups and downs.  I loved this game when it first came out.  I looked forward to every update with anticipation.  NOW...well the love is gone.

I feel all boarding us in did was create an opportunity for griefers to rule the world.

I have been fenced into a town by outsiders.  I have been locked into a building by towers in front of the doors.  Went back with a pickax and now can't even knock down the stone walls.  I have been killed repeatedly life after life.  There is no wilderness, no refuge for those of us that just like to play.

There are no more Juniper Trees, thus no more fire.

Not sure if this logic was added to your restart.  If there is no fire we can't create an airplane to traverse the rift.  Nor can we forge the material necessary to do so.  Nor can we get fuel or water.   I get it is your game.  But really I paid for a game and now the game I purchased is no longer available.  And no I am not tech enough to mod or go to other places to sort out a server as recommended above.

I miss the world I once knew as One Hour One Life.

So, I love this game and sometimes I will let my 10 and 11 year old play too.
It helped over the summer keep up their reading skills and has improved their typing.
We all know we are playing in a world with other people and so I try to moderate where my real life children are in the game and how those other players that surround them are behaving.

My youngest daughter loves to run the fire daycare and tend to the children.  She also taught me all I know about sheep!
It pleases me to see how happy she is playing this game and how she conducts herself in this anonymous world.
She was so excited the first time people started saying "I Love You"

It disappoints me to see other players yelling at her character.  And watch as she is trying to type an answer or TAB through crafting options; and the other person starts swearing at her and using racial slurs I am finding myself having to explain because they have NEVER heard them before.  She was in tears the other night because someone cursed her for not being seen as working quickly enough.

I understand that I am subjecting them to this and, as I said above, I am actively involved in parental guidance with this MMO.

It would be wonderful if there was some kind of a box to check when logging in to play that gave you the option of a "family friendly" server.
Logging on this might mean:
* a bit more of a chill attitude
* a communal agreement to maintain appropriate language
* discourage adult themed drama
* a more realistic expectation for the behavior of real life children

I have been reading the forum for a while, but I just created a login to type this.  It is with hope that i put this into the universe and see...
