Idea: temperature variable and overlay color

There were many ideas about seasons and things that change the pace of game, since the client has limitations, most of them are impossible.
But I think that introducing a temperature variable would be easy and would be good feature.

Basically the game would be as normal for 50% of the time. Over time the variable would change and the temperature of characters would start from a lower or a higher point. Since te temperature is recalculated per player each time it leaves fire or enters a room, this shouldn't be an issue.

Let's say you got a base temperature of 0.15 without clothes on normal biomes (looks like that anyway)
During "winter"  this would go down to 0, and during summer would go up to 40. Even that wouldn't be a big challenge. So maybe the R value of clothes would be lower too or change the temp bar for more variations like it would be double scale-like now, especially downward, so you can have a variance of 4x from very cold to hot. Also to make this visible the whole screen could change a bit more blue or yellowish during the seasons.

This would make farming more important during the hotter seasons, also it could block planting during the winter. So stockpiling food each "year" would be important. Sure, it shouldn't be every minute but like every 20 min a winter, so each 5 minutes changing temperature.

This would make farming more important when you can do it, and winters harder when you can't do it, preparing for the seasons would create more variety, and more people would die during winter, so more would be born, buffing camps which can afford kids during winters. Also could be extended with food spoilage based on temperature later on.

Shelters would be more important for that 5 minutes. We still don't have many indoor activities so I'm not sure about that part.
Mabe make woodcutting a longer process, first chop down the entire tree, move with a horse or ox and clean up branches, chop up into logs, then cut into firewood, longer animations so you better stack up more and get help.

Re: Idea: temperature variable and overlay color

Seasons would be amazing in this game, and add some desperately needed variety to play. Even just basic temperature variations to give a better reason to wear different outfits. And perhaps give us more craftable clothing choices as well, some better suited than others for particularly hot or cold seasons.

Having 20-25 minute seasons would work well within the game duration. Personally, I'd be fine with longer as well - if seasons change every 40-60 minutes then back-to-back lives could be more unique. You'd prefer different clothing styles for the changed temps, maybe temperature could even be a variable for other items in the game.

Perhaps onions and wheat are spring/fall crops, tomato and peppers in summer...etc. And if crops won't grow from a watered seed in the winter, then villages would have to either work to stockpile food for the townsfolk, make hard choices on keeping children, or range outwards and forage/hunt for wild foods to sustain themselves until the spring allows for more crop growth.

Having a more dynamic world - increasing the PVE elements of the game...that's gonna result in a lot of interesting life variety and changes in player behavior. And maybe having more PVE elements like this would help encourage villages to pull together in hard times. Make lives a little more rewarding, a little more social and connected to others.

Re: Idea: temperature variable and overlay color

I'd vote for each season to last for an hour or longer.        A new season every fifteen or twenty minutes would feel too rushed and not justify changing your whole wardrobe.   I think it would be better if a seasonal transition only happened once per life at most.   If the temperature got gradually colder or hotter over your lifespan (or changed from cool to cold, warm to hot), it would encourage you to plan ahead for winter or change your outfit because summer had finally arrived.    You could plant more crops in the spring or harvest them in the fall before the season ended.

More rapid transitions would get annoying, especially if you play for a longer session and experience the seasons cycle multiple times.    While longer seasons would feel more significant and could have a bigger impact on how you live your life.

Well a realtime season would mean a super cool 15 second transition, that would be a pretty nice psychodelic effect if you ask me.
