whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

needs a perma ban mods or whoever in charge please take a look and ban hammer that fool...he did this on another arc too in the southeast.  I'm gonna leave it at that.  But I'm walling the place off either way.

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

You do know you can just pick lock the doors and loot the base instead of walling it off right?

Put chest next to door
Put lock and key A on chest
Try key on door
If doesn't work file key
Use key on chest
Blank the lock using a hammer on the lock and key A you get back from the chest
Use file on blank lock and key x2 to get lock and key B.

Rinse and repeat.

The thought of perma banning someone for hoarding is goofy especially when it's easy to pick locks in game (Minus the fact it takes skill slots to do.) Just loot their base THEN wall it off if you're salty about that goof ass.

ok was missing the blanking part, didn't wanna burn tons of iron on locks.  I was salty about the giant swastika in his base not the loot. I build hearths not raid so far in this game. tongue

More of a low tech tribal player so I prefer scorched earth and denying loot to all in survival games tbh.  Otherwise it just gets passed around and people are happy to raid.  But if I can wall of a couple thousands units of water in finished goods and playtime I'd rather do that loool.  With nothing to raid raiders quit and you win by sitting round the campfire eating stew.

Ugh.

I really dislike all the peeps who throw around slurs and apparently now build swastikas n shit. It's understandable to want the game to be open for everyone etc., maybe even make it lifelike so those things just 'happen to exist', but I think drawing a line is necessary sometimes. If you don't, people will think this kinda stuff is fine and it'll just get worse. Can't even tell if it's "just people being edgy" or actual hate speech. Neither are okay anyway, for that exact reason.

Curses & Donkey Town work fine for people disrupting the game by stealing, killing, w/e. They don't for this kinda stuff. This isn't about trolling or ruining the experience of other people in game, this is about real world issues and should be treated as such. It isn't even necessary to ban people indefinitely; initially just a warning or short term ban should be enough to make people realise that they could lose their ability to play if they keep doing this shit.

I don't want one of my favourite games to be a place where bigots feel at home, and I hope Jason doesn't want that either. This being far too common is one of the reasons I stopped streaming OHOL, since I am responsible for what is shown on my stream and I don't want to offend anyone. I have to refrain from streaming the game at all unless I can be 90% sure there's gonna be no slurs or w/e on my screen.

It's the same as people drawing dicks everywhere, but worse. You can't usually avoid it in an online game

Oh. They must've built that at the very end. When I was looking for oil I saw that building minus the swastika. It didn't have much stuff in it either.

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

I think I saw that building.    My son brought me to see his base, but it had been raided.  Someone broke a wall and stole most of his loot.

There wasn't a swatsika when I saw it.

He might have added that later or maybe one of the people who raided the base did it.

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

What the game rules allow, that is fair play, and you can complain all day about people, or let them do things then punish it, but it's still the game is faulty for letting it happen in the first place.
Other than that is ok that some people lock away some stuff, it's quite hard to do something valuable and lock it away. And people seem to be very keen to steal those things.
The other thing is that I don't like one-dimensional thinking, that you should do everything the same way every time and agree on everything and hate on others who don't do the same.

Generally only few of us does all the important stuff around the towns, the boards around the berry field, the well tech, the smithing, getting iron, getting oil, navigating the population from towns to other towns to split the load, refilling towns with iron and oil. To be fair it's like this every arc, people mess it up over and over and some players got to fix it.

My problem with miss gomez:
I made a town to spread the population, spent an hour, it already had a berry farm, a lot of chests, partial roads, the kilns seem to be decayed, it had a faraway pen, a well (3rd we knew about that arc) and some other stuff, but it was stripped a bit

after spending the end of my life fixing it, and my next lives start there, it looked pretty nice, did a new pen, scavenged a lot of clothes, bowls, plates and butt logs from the nearby biomes.
invited a girl over, he was following us, then when arrived, started shit-talking, when nobody paid  attention, he tried to  shoot me, then stole the hoes we made and the horse cart i made and run over several times to steal shit or scare people

i was making half of Mont town and helped get iron so I knew it had plenty, even if not, the rift had quite a few veins left, iron wasn't an issue
he kept stealing the buckets I made there and the water, hoes, tools, everything cause we "took iron"

The hole thing of "I was born here so scavenge everything here" is just so dumb. As a community, we need to optimize the resources, if a town has a lot of iron, they waste it on multiple tools, the only good use of that 3rd froe and 4th saw is to take them to other towns.
Jason made pseudo eves lives harder limiting the wells, and all players life harder and only more pressure to veterans who did all that stuff alone anyway so the extra wells and new locations were just a bit of extension on the time, it never really mattered what the 90% in the town did, it was mostly wasteful anyway.

Mont town had private property, with the only froe, then a lot of thieves who just stole the fleece from others and even shit talk when questioned. People who ate the carrots over and over while there was no soil, a dumb gravedigger who was wasting the last shovel to dig bones in place they died. Next life they even planted 50 more buses when it had 48 originally, in a huge block of 7x5 instead keeping a pattern at least. Most of my kids suicided when they saw the bushes.

So I didn't have the mood to stay there one more life, and I found kerosene behind a tree, so not like I even took water from that town, the new town had it's own well and with the milkweed I planted I made 2 buckets.
And this dickhead doesn't work all his life but thinks he is righteous to steal the buckets and the hoes we made there cause "reee you took iron". So yeah is quite hypocite from him to call others griefers. That's just a dick move to steal the tool set from a good looking town, when your town has enough tools already, stealing the last bucket from a place with a well prevents restarting it, the biggest idiots even rip up floors and drag away the boxes.

in conclusion that's fine if i have to handle hate graffiti in game mods....i will make it a priority tbh, thats a pretty poor stance on the matter imho tho.  is jason cool with this?

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

The word swastika comes from Sanskrit meaning 'conductive to well-being' or literally 'good being' and is considered a holy symbol by Hindus meaning sun, prosperity, and good luck.

Jainism, Buddhism, Navajo, Vikings, Romans, Greeks, Christians/Byzantines, Indus river valley civilization, Mesopotamians, etc all use/used swastika.

Point being, you cannot say definitively the intent/meaning behind it.  I think it is important to give the benefit of the doubt in cases like these.

One person might interpret it as edgy, another as hate speech, another as prosperity, another as good luck, etc.

In non-western countries most people associate the symbol more with a religion than with the national socialists.

National socialists only used the symbol for 9 years, the symbol has been used on pretty much every continent by all sorts of cultures since as far back as our records go.

Just because someone bad used the symbol means it can't be used anymore? In that case we would have to ban hammers & sickles too.

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

there is a subtle difference between the german one and the hindu one my friend. either way idc that much if i have to handle in game thats fine by me. if we got a free world thats cool too...im totally fine with it tbh.  i certainly weighed more than just the symbol.

his actions, his placement on the snow the cold bitter fortress speak loudly he is a destructive person, if you think its a hindu symbol of wel, being in the middle of a raid fortress i think you'd be the devil's advocate.

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

Pretty irrational to go mad over 17 virtual placed floor tiles.
I found it a quite amusing expierience. A nice refresh from the boring noob-antagonist random killing, griefing or warmongering.
The base had a self sustainable approach to it. People were force feeded to prevent going out the pussy way.
If people really hated it, why didn't all directly suicide in it?

There were people who either:
1. Didn't realised they are locked from birth
2. Thought they could go out later
3. Don't want to suicide ever
4. Don't care
5. Even supported to give birth to the pro-antagonist base

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

I'm sorry but if someone draws/builds/graffiti's a swastika on anything, in a mostly Western situation, there's a 99% chance that they do indeed mean the nazi symbol (whether they draw it the right way around or not, since they're actually not exactly the same but flipped). There is no reason to give people the benefit of doubt. Also, hammer/sickle don't carry the same message of hate & racism at all.

Indeed it is the game's fault/responsibility to have rules about this kinda shit. Did you know using the nazi salute is actually illegal/a criminal offence in some countries? That's because it's more than "just a symbol".

Re: whoever made the fort in the northeast part of map on snow...

I agree with Kaveh.

The problem is that even though the swastika may hold no significance to the people drawing it in the game, unfortunately it does hold significance to certain extreme right wing groups, people who should not feel they find a safe haven in OHOL.

From the article: https://www.dw.com/en/germanys-confusin … a-45063547

"In the German version of the popular video game Wolfenstein II, swastikas have been replaced by triangular symbols and the fictional, mustacheless dictator Herr Heiler stands in for the English version's Adolf Hitler, angering many gamers. Until recently, the Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body (USK) had not permitted Nazi symbols — including Hitler's face — anywhere in video games in Germany. Last week, the USK lifted its blanket ban, though symbols still must be approved.

Displaying Nazi emblems in Germany is, naturally, complicated, even without the USK's guidelines for age ratings and game content. "Most countries don't penalize the display of Nazi symbols," the lawyer Christian Solmecke told DW.

In Germany, the law considers swastikas and SS sig runes the "symbols of anti-constitutional organizations." Displaying them publicly or selling goods that sport them is illegal. The Nazi salute and statements such as "Heil Hitler" are also banned in public.

"There are similar bans — for example, in Austria — but those are a lot less tough," Solmecke said."

(Article from 2018. I don't know what the rules are now.)

Honestly I'm fine with having players police it as players, it can be bad for the community is all.  I'd like to see OHOL get bigger and avoid a bad reputation.

You cant be serious. Mocking a mass murder, making jokes about it? Really?
When the Nazis took Jewish people to aushwitz they told the Jewish people (mostly women and children) they were going to take showers. They dug a deep pit to put them all in and fixed jets rigged to spray out poisonous gas. When they arrived and realized they were going to be showered with gas they started screaming and wailing, the ones who tried to escape were shot and the rest were melted alive by gas showers. Women and children. They didn’t even bother to bury their melted flesh. They just burned it. And this went on on a massive scale.
THIS is what you choose to poke fun at?

Getting offended by a geometrical pattern is non immersive and pathetic cry for attention.

Its just assembly of few tiles in 5x5 grid. There literally so many options to arrange them in a pattern that is not absolutely random jibberish.

Its one of the worlds most oldest symbols for a reason. Its shape is just playing around with 3x3 grid with rotation and multiplying.

Please dont bring your safe space to my territory. All this does is discourages roleplay and immersivenes in iconography.

To me it's all fine to act as a bad character, little roleplay, it shouldn't hurt anyone.
Is killing and stealing in games like gta any better?

To me swastika means nothing, I'm over it.

Damn, we could even learn some real history thanks to that big_smile

I mean, the way you communicate, first you assure your good intentions by doing some work or scavenging something or gifting something. It's just creepy to follow people and then burst out.
Then get to the point, I didn't listen cause you were typing like 5-6 times and I couldn't get out what you want. When I asked it, you were just yelling about iron, without even having the knowledge about the situation of iron within Mont town or the rift, and you didn't cared about my answer either. Told you that I left some there and isn't an issue, towns got no kerosene, iron is plenty.

Some people went kinda overboard with the mining picks, water would have lasted longer if just use the horses and gather the veins. Also, quite a low percentage of horses have been captured that arc. The desert was very close to both towns and full of horses. So gathering would be easier if each town has a few of them. Even if some get lost, people would bring it back when they end up far away from towns so I don't see a downside of many horses.

And yeah, spreading population. That town I made, lasted like 2-3 hours? not sure. The Newcomen was closer and we dropped some water there, First family occupied it after those people died out. And honestly was quite refreshing to switch location from the berry oceans.

Hate speech is speech that attacks a person or a group on the basis of protected attributes such as race, religion, ethnic origin, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

So base line code for ultimate tag for maximum trigger includes:
-nationality
-religion
-disability
-sexual orientation

"asian-buddist-lesbian-midget" is probably the least offending.

Also, it is a way for us to try help build a good and inclusive community for this game, since there are no guidelines and it's up to the players to self police.

When someone who don't know the game sees that fascist symbol on a letsplay on Twitch or Youtube or a screenshot somewhere on the Internet, they can come to the forum and see that the players in no way condone fascism.

And perhaps there should be some clearer guidelines and policies.
