What about random recipes?

Part of why the game gets boring as you can easily look up what to make from what and once you done it is easy.

There was a good mechanic in Sol 0, researching the strains for plants was always random each map, you had to combine 4-5 plants to make bacterias adapt to soil better and to make a better yield on plants.

So the idea would be that some recipes would be totally random in each arc, you would get some herbs from aroudn the world, which would be temporary growing, so you better pick it each time you see it

Throw it in the cauldron, mix together multiple of them, you need to find the perfect proportions which could be anwhere between 0-100% from each plant

For example you would need A,B,C,D,E combined to make a batch of the "medicine" you make:

one of the plants could be poison, other poison in big proportion but good in low proportion
one could be good and others have no effect, maybe give more pips or heat bonus, cold bonus

you would need at least 5 plants put into the cauldron so the proportions would be the key
Obviously if you put 5xA then it would be just a mixture of A  (lets say Claw leaf) then you would need to test it.
That would be fairly dangerous considering you got o clue what is gonna do with you.

The proportions would be set on each arc but the end recipe would be hidden until found.
For example 30%A 50%C 20%D would make a cure for any bleeding, give speed bonus, high fertility or whatever.
IF you put different plants, the character would have health issues like faster pip loose, colds or heat strokes.
Ther could be funny effects, when the plants are good but the proportions aren't perfect, like shrooms but different kind of side effects.
Drawing a brown line after you or hickups time to time, turret syndrome: your character would be yelling at others randomly.

Im not exactly sure how many combinations  and permutations are with 5 items but it's a lot

ABBEE
etc.
maybe could even be more random adding water to it, first the start of the arc the generator would generate the recipes and effects
then players would need to find the right plants and proportions
some would only have effect combination to one or two other plants, some would have effect above or below certain proportion.

To help people a bit, you could never make the same batch what has no effect. So it would kinda be easier to test them out. Once you put in 4 plants, the server would check and block any mixtures that been done already and have no effect at all.

I think it would be funny mechanic and always interesting, the town healer could be an evil charlatan or a good herbaologist.

This solutions could also have other effects, like making materials out of them, like certain rooms or caves would open usig the right mixture.
I don't know, i just throw ideas around.
