Have you increased the food output?
Have you created backup carrot farms with water reserved?
Have you planted berry bushes?
have you explored the town to see how it works?
Have you asked anyone how to help?
Have you brought gear back?
If the answer is no, then you cant raise kids. Especially not more than one.
Today had two nice towns i been. Every kid was left alive, i controlled myself but my sisters just tossed kids into fire and somebody raised them. The end result was famine, thiefs, i barely could make my backpack without people moving everything i made so far. a guy just stole a cart of seeds i got for the farm.
The other run somebody just cut the last wheat and never bring water to next one, 15 wells and all dry
People cant control themselves, they keep all kids and everyone dies at a point, kid spawning should happen less for does who already got one, name the kid, show the place, teach it or dont keep them at all.
we might need help from jason on this, players cant limit this by themselves.

I was in a town last night where there were two famines with over half the population dying within a 45 minute timeframe. One positive side effect that I've been seeing is that when this happens people often migrate. 4+ outposts were created as a result of these famines. I don't think Jason needs to do anything, since it's eerily accurate to the real world (Sub-Saharan Africa for example).
One solution would be to only allowing babies that know the code ("q" currently), to live. Anyone that doesn't say "q" is simply not fed. It's likely that this would encourage non-forum users to hop on the forum at the very least to check for the weekly code. Education is what will drive the meta forward, but there's only so much you can teach in-game.

The problem is that when you stock food you get a huge population growing, mom usually keep most of their children, but it still is too much. Few things I found that work were to :
Keep nursery away from fields, if not babies eat like crazy. Or keep food stock away in a house. People care less when there is too much food around.
Have a backup berryfield, it saved my family to a total extermination times.
When too many people, send some young girls make new camps around and start new life.
Dont mind killing useless people, somes are just browsing around carrot farm, waiting and eating, dont mind stabbing them. I dunno why but people with crowns work way less.
