Re: Remember pigs?

Sometimes I get bored and mass make pork tacos since I find we never have a scare amount of limestone and pork needs to be purged from the village. The downfall is it takes too much time and uses flat rocks and wood that would be better off in the forge.

Will do something about this.

Main problem:

Consuming pork requires limestone, which is finite.

There has been a lot of grousing about pigs and pork for thematic reasons.  But this is the first time it has been laid bare (and that insight was buried somewhere in this thread).

Finite limestone isn't the issue lol. I've never once seen anyone complain about lack of limestone when trying to make something. It's used in so few things, you're almost guaranteed to find some in the nearest mountain biome, regardless of what stage of the game you're at.

The problem is that the literal only use we have for pork [dogs are NOT a use] takes over 64 steps and 2-3 bowls of corn to prepare.. per individual pork. The animals themselves give us FOUR pork per animal, INCLUDING WILD ONES.

We need a simpler recipe. That's all. Something that doesn't take 64 fucking steps and 3 different types of fires to produce. Literally even if we could just cook the fucking pork like we do raw mutton would be a HUUUUUGE improvement. It only takes a single transition and a slightly redone sprite!

Agreed.

At the very least, roasting a pig should be an option. Even with a lack of apples to put in its mouth...

Shhhhhhhh!  If the finite limstone motivates him to fix pork, we all win.    This food has been broken for too long.

With this logic he will make limestone infinite or make corn lime with wood ashes and the issue still wouldnt be solved.

At this point just burning the pork in the fire to make it despawn would be fine

Re: Remember pigs?

I prefer moving it outside the property fence to create a raw meat border around the town.  For maximum effect, the outer layer should be the unburied bones of the village dead.

Re: Remember pigs?

I agree with howling, but the thing is, making carnitas edible already makes pigs twice as good

Jason is as usual somewhat unaware of the problem we're reporting (as seen by him stating limestone is the biggest problem) but we don't really need complex solutions either way. Is there any reason why carnitas shouldn't be edible?

Oh, he's aware.   But you're like children to him (0 game dev experience children).  The more he gives in to your whining, the more you'll whine.   So he'll offer every solution BUT the one you're asking for.   Also he's probably actually made pork tacos.   So this is a pine wall situation.  He's done it, so he's making  you do every tortured step, regardless how unbalanced compared to other similar in-game products.  He's obviously never made mutton pies though - maybe not any pies at all - since he's made those dead simple.

+1

The only reasonable thing to do with pork currently is ditching it far away from the town so it doesn't take up space. When throwing food away is better than actually cooking it there's a problem.

Arguing about experience in defense of the guy that used to call himself an amateur lawyer is neat. Thx for joining us redram.

That being said people like you should be more aware that this kind of attitude is why we have a tarr monument instead of tarr playing the game nowadays

Pork tacos should be an alternate way to provide yum chain around your village, not the only edible recipe from pork.

This is the problem in a nutshell.   It's not that pork tacos are bad, per se.   Oh they aren't great, but they could be a lot worse.    They take a lot of steps, but the ingredients are relatively easy to assemble and tortillas are really fun to make.    The problem is that a food like tacos or burritos is so labor intensive and time-consuming to produce in quanity, it doesn't make sense as anything other than a novelty.   Like making french fries and ketchup, chips and salsa, or ice cream.   If you are a foodie, you'll do it once or twice to prove that you can.  But none of these foods can feed a village.  None of them are useful if you are staving because it takes way too long to mass-produce.   They are yum foods and that is pretty much all they are good for.

Pork tacos would be fine, if there was an lower pip value, easy way to consume pork.   Then you could use pork as a quick and dirty food source early game, then graduate up to more advanced recipes when you get all the necessary ingredients and have a little extra time to fool around with tacos.   Excess pork can be cleared easily and, if it could be used in pies, it would even be valuable.

My favorite part about the Tarr monument is that Jason straight up copied it from Theodor Seuss Geisel.   Even copied Mr. Geisel's verse when he added it.  A surprising move for someone that previously presented an 'all-original' game, and in the not too distant past was demanding that ohol mobile replace all Jason's artwork, because 'muh legacy'.  I think Tarr Galted-out, finally.  Good on him.

Exactly. I've made fries, ketchup and icecream before. This was usually motivated by a sudden determination to try something new, my quest for infinite yum or absolute boredom. Pork has pretty much no use. Pork tacos are literally just bragging rights at this point so you can run into the town and present tacos to them. If we could eat carnitas, roast pork or make bacon pigs would again become worthwhile to raise and have.
