I have a big problem with pigs. But first, a story.
Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Etham Exon. He loved organizing things. He would make compost and pies and everything was going okay.
Just one problem: the immense amount of PIGS.
The pigpen had collapsed, as it was made of property walls, and out spilled so many pigs. You couldn't swap an item on the ground for the amount of pigs. It was impossible to eat, sleep, work, or play. So Etham put and end to it by killing every pig within an everywhere radius. (Even an everywhere radius was too big... I missed two at the extreme southern border.)
As everyone starved to death for not being able to pick berries for dear life, Etham carted nothing but pig remains to the southern graveyard. At a glancem the graveyard seemed normal. But the more south you got, the more PORK there was until an entire biome could have been laid with pork.
Etham died after going crazy.
---
So the problem here is that pigs have no use. We could have had, what, a little army of dogs to take their place? Pork right now is very underpowered, and this leads to griefing with an animal that should be super useful, like pigs are IRL.
So recipe time:
Raw pork + knife = bacon strips
(Optional) Bacon strips + salt = salted bacon strips
(salted?) Bacon strips + hot flat rock = cooked bacon
Raw pork + pie crust = Raw pork pot pie
Bowl of raw pork + knife = bowl of cubed pork
Cubed pork + clay pot = crock of cubed pork, bowl in hand
Chopped onion + crock of cubed pork = crock of onion and pork
Corn kernels = crock of onion and pork = crock of dry pork stew
Crock of dry pork stew + bowl of water = crock of raw pork stew
Crock of raw pork stew + hot coals = crock of cooking pork stew
Crock of cooking pork stew + time = pork stew
pork stew + bowl = bowl of pork stew
Bowl of cubed pork + skewer = skewered pork
Skewered pork + hot coals = cooked skewered pork
Come up with ideas to make pigs worth it!

Yea, when there is a food ingredient you’d rather hide behind trees than have in your kitchen that’s a problem.
For the time being, I think we have enough content.

When an entire animal has meat that can only be eaten when you have a steady supply of limestone, that is also a problem.
Bowl of carnitas should be edible. Pork pies should be made using either raw pork (like mutton) or bowl of carnitas/bowl of raw pork (like rabbit). Rabbit/mutton tacos/burittos and pork burittos would also be nice, but I can live without them.

Pigs should become the compost animal
Pros:
delay late game
Cheaper to feed than sheep
Nerfs mutton pies
To me it's not balanced that civs get stable supplies of clothing and soil at the same time, and it's terrible that even boars cannot be eaten unless you get lime, as Destiny said.

That's a good idea. Problem is, sheep are fuzzy and cute. Sheep don't kill me on impact. If pigs are the dirt bottleneck, they can't kill me on impact. Can we just have human babies make poos if they're wearing pants? Or make a wool diaper? Then we can harness humanity!
And the limed corn thing is super niche, I agree. I'd rather make walls with my limestone than make horribly inefficient food.

+1 pig meat is very annoying, i kill pigs just so nobody can breed them.
Simply roasted pork in the oven would be enough but more recipes why not
But it needs to be an easy recipe like raw pork + hot oven
And not salt+knife on pork + hot oil etc

I see pork I immediately go hide it behind trees outside the town. I fucking hate pork clogging up kitchens so much.
I agree instead of adding new food with new items let us use the items already in more efficiently
I'm Slinky and I hate it here.
I also /blush.

if we could just use it with the oven to bake it, like the mutton and then eat it, it would already be a huge help, two simple transitions

in the long arc run, NÉ town had some pigs
i threw away 2-3 times
families came and go but the pig meat always ends up in the fucking bakery for no damn reason

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

If I am born into a town with a lot of pork lying around, I'll sometimes spend my whole life making tacos and use one corn tortilla for each bowl of carnitas to wipe out all the useless pork as quickly as I can. It usually still takes my whole damn life and working with pork always makes me feel like a griefer since if something happens to me before I finish, I've just occupied a bunch of bowls with a dead-end product.

Roasting pork in oven's a good idea too. And also, more ways to kill carnitas.

That's because I think some people couldn't distinguish pork and mutton at a glance. I'm colour blind and I can't see the difference (is there even any?)
But yeah, leaving the pork in the kitchen after that mistake is a no

If pigs don't exist, how can they be so delicious?

We don't need atomic robots. We just need pigs!

There once was a suggestion to move dung from sheep to pigs. Still need sheep for wool, but also need pigs for dung then.
But really, just give us a way to cook pork that doesn't completely suck (pork tacos suck).

While we're talking about cooking bacon, how insane is it that we're building engines, cars, and airplanes, but are still cooking food on flat rocks? Maybe a pork fix update could include a cast iron skillet and a steel pot, both removable from the coals. Skillet replaces flat rock, pot replaces clay bowl (for purposes of cooking and boiling on coals).

Will do something about this.
Main problem:
Consuming pork requires limestone, which is finite.
There has been a lot of grousing about pigs and pork for thematic reasons. But this is the first time it has been laid bare (and that insight was buried somewhere in this thread).

Main problem is preparing pork to be edible is too tedious of a process compared to the high ammount of meat that is producable
Pls dont make diesel iron mine give limestone as a fix for pork

A fix for pork! Thanks, Jason!
(But Dodge has a point: if oil is required to make limestone, then the fix is moot because nobody likes learning how to use oil.)

I wouldn't mind if the diesel iron mine gave limestone it's OP in giving so much iron currently but the issue is the ammount of work required to process one piece of pork compared to how easy it is to get 4 pieces of pork.
So even with "unlimited" limestones there would still be pork meat cluttering the space.

Honestly there's the easy suggestion of making carnitas edible for low food amount. There's no sense in it not being edible, it doesn't evem have to be good.
