Data from the last arc about family demise

This is for the previous arc that lasted 764 years

I'm doing analysis now, but here's the first graph:

ajtDl0t.png

The Eve window closed at the 8-hour mark.  You can see some new Eves spawning after that (in tutorial and d-town), but you see that they don't affect the in-arc family count.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Shouldn't tutorial+d-town have their own server to have clear data on the arc?

Also it would reduce the load on server since tutorial spawns a lot of objects when someone does a tutorial run.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Maybe.... but that's a non-trivial change.

Anyway, here are the 4 fams that were left at the end:

Whisler died out first (http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5203610)

Seasholtz died out second (resulting in arc end)  (http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5203271)

Left at the end of the arc were:

Kubin (http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5201795)
Banas (http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5201997)

The absolutely bizarre thing is that the Kubin and Banas families instantly lost their fertility when the arc ended.  Their people should have survived the arc, but they apparently had no more babies after that?  Very strange.  Maybe a bug.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Turns out that they did survive the arc, but just had no more babies....  There may still be some kind of bug, though.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Is there a way to see the whole family tree? and not click on each person separatly to see their ancestors

Would be interesting to have a global view to see how each person from the lineage died.

Looks like starvation is the most common cause of death but also some SID's

Does it still make sense to have /die with the rift?

Without /die there will be runner babies, which is more annoying for everyone.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Whole fam tree is tough, b/c it is so big and complicated.

Wondible has a family tree viewer, though....

Here's Seascholtz, the fam that ended the arc:

Does it have cause of death?

Maybe instead of the whole family tree it would be possible to see each generation (whole generation 1,2,3 etc)

Possibly truncated due to log shipping time. You can also link over there from the map's life search. No time element though, and it leaves out very short lives.

Whisler
Seasholtz
Kubin
Banas

And here's Whisler, a short-lived fam that died right after the Eve window closed:

They still have the option to just run away from their mom, so yes. Removing the option doesn't help anyone.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Starvation at young age/before fertile and murders is something recurrent i see.

Much more vulnerable to starvation when you dont have the adult number of food pips.

I wonder if most kids/young adult die not because there is a lack of food but because they forget to eat or dont eat in time but could have had the possibility to.

If there was a visible starving emote that automatically triggers when starving, other members of the family could know if someone is about to die of starvation and feed them instead of seeing them randomly turn into a sack of bones and being powerless to prevent it because they dont know if they are hungry or not.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

I was alive at the time of apocalypse last night, and everything went white. But it didn’t transition back to normal visibility; it just remained a whiteout. I could mouse over areas of the screen and see the what was behind the white (yew, etc), but I couldn’t see anything. Couldn’t feed myself.

I heard people around me moving, so I typed “Feed me. I am blind.  Help” but I eventually starved.

I chalked it up to lag on my system. It was my first apocalypse, so I wasn’t sure of what to expect.. But maybe others had the same situation. In which case we all croaked from starvation.

I mean you could completely remove the possibility of changing family and chosing a life even if you die of starvation by running but maybe it's not the right thing to do

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

It seems that most families end with just boys at the end. Weird.

Yes, NotAnotherBird, that could have happened to everyone, if there's a bug.  Very weird.

Yeah that's a possibility I've thought of before as well. If it just lasts for one life though then /die babies would probably be more likely to resort to griefing.

Another option I find more intriguing is to lock a player to a certain family for an extended period, say an entire arc, creating more of an identity and vested interest in the family, and seeing other families as actually other and not as your next life.  Problems though are variable survival durations of families, and that lives would tend to feel very samey since you would potentially be born in the same town over and over again.

Or you could be born with a very restricted view and by the time you're 4 you already invested time in this life and would say fuck it and live the life you're given.

Maybe also only be able to crawl and not run

it always felt kinda weird that a baby can run to follow his mom, shouldn't a baby be totally dependent on his mom and others, i guess since they cant feed themselves it's ok

But honestly it's fine like this no point in changing it atm.

This also happened to me during the manual apocalypse, but I thought it just took a moment and I was too young. Which reminds me, I've been meaning to clip that.

Re: Data from the last arc about family demise

Weird... thanks for that clip... hmmm.

The server is supposed to send you a message when the apocalypse is done.

According to the most recent server log, it waited 8 seconds for everyone to fade to white, and then after that, all the operations needed happened in less than a second.  After that, it should send the "all clear" message and your client should show you the world again.

Hopefully someone can take a look in their stdout.txt file next time this happens.

The recording would also capture what happened, but it's pretty painful to play through.
