Outran by murderer with a knife?

I was 34 and some guy outran me with a knife and murdererd me. How is this possible?
I remember this also happened with some griefers with war swords killing everyone where I couldn't outrun them.

They run at the same speed as you, which is enforced by the server.

However, you can "out pathfind" someone by taking a more direct route than they take. If they're making a lot of turns, and you're going straight to cut them off.

So maybe this happened?

If you were both running in a straight line (which is unlikely, due to obstacles), maybe there are some random rounding and timing issues in the server move processing code....

Lag wouldn't actually let them catch/kill you. Well... maybe, if your move messages arrived at the server with very erratic spacing.

But don't you need to be standing practically still for them to stab you? Or does it mean they knew exactly on which tile to aim their stab? Sounds a lot like cheating to me...

This has been reported repeteadly. I have been stabbed several times by people outrunning me. They also stab you and the wound appears several seconds later, after the chase ended. This is not lag, this is more likely some hack because it doesn´t look like lag at all, it is not that I can´t click, I run straight and the attacker runs literally faster when angry. Then he stops and after a few secods the wound appears while he goes back.
