I can defend my mine, but after im dead, its gone no matter what. I have tried every single possible solution and nothing works. People say just build a fence around it. I need to give perms to someone and what if my kid is a greifer which basically always happens. The main people who steal engines are apart of your family. I don't want to worry about staying on for hours guarding our source of iron when it can just be in there forever. I tried this "fence solution" about three times, moments after I die its gone. I spawn back into that same village an hour later and its no where in sight. Jason please Make it permanent im begging ive gone through seven engines and they all managed to get stolen/greifed. One might ask 'since newcomens aren't perm, aren't the engines safe?" No there not. All a person has to do is find an abandoned exhausted well and its gone forever(this happened to me twice). A mine can not last through generations and its been tested. Its only practical if their permanent please Jason do it.

Making engines docked to iron mines is a solution but not the most interesting one.
Ideally you could remove all engine sources (water pump, car, plane, mine), you could see behind trees and there would be no possibility to building grief (with ancient walls/bell base), also containing engines in carts or chests/locked chests not too sure about this one.
This would be much more interesting, engines would become something valuable that you have to protect and can be stolen between families and villages but that you could get back.
Engines would travel between civilisations and we would fight or trade over it.
If engines are simply docked to the mine then it's over, nothing more interesting will happen.
But yeah currently way too easy to grief.

There is no such thing like trading in this game.
I agree, diesel mines definatelly should be permanent, especially in rift

i did lock away one, due to finding a ready lock, boards and rope on my way around map
but normally wouldn't be the time to do so or enough motivation to do all kinds of stuff like this
it stood there for days, some peopl seen it but couldn't get to it and wasn't griefed
got like 30 and 90 iron out of it which was more than what the whole rift had in total
locking to a mine isn't the most interesting mechanics, cause then you know it's there forever and you just need oil and chisels
sure it's a lot of work but infinite iron kinda makes it boring
maybe some refined metals on a later age with some different processing would make iron a bit less important
moving water engines would be annoying but at least compensate for stolen iron engines, as it's a griefing type to give shitty towns 2 engine wells which never get used anyway

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

Easy to make? Easy to remove
Hard to make? Hard to remove
This rule should be true for most things in ohol tbh

Its never, ever ever traded, ever. The only way they travel between families is if someone steals it and puts it in a well where its gone forever. Its already valuable, that's why I made seven of them. Engines travelling was only ever trouble because they can be greifed so fast. It doesn't take a smart allack to find one. Like I said, one can easily put an engine in a well with no one in the town. Therefore the engine is greifed with its sole purpose for mining stripped from it. And what do you mean not interesting? Having a new job of extracting iron and having it become a core source of resources in a village is more than interesting, that's more interesting then it being constantly stolen which isn't fun its repetitive and frustrating.

Yes that's why I posted. Why would someone trade engines anyways? there too valuable to be traded and it requires player honesty a thing greifers can easily exploit. And engines being pulled out of wells would be so bad since they can just be hidden across the world or taken out every five minutes like the mine, Its not ideal unless you want to go on a scavenger hunt.

I never said engines themselves would be traded but the ressources they produce (water and iron atm)
Picture a village with oil but no engine for water, or oil and no iron etc.
Also if you cant hide them behind trees/bear caves and you cant store them in chests or block them behind ancient walls, good luck hiding an engine.
The idea is that you have a village that is about to die because it has no more iron but the village next to him has an engine what do you do?
If carrying an engine made you really slow (like very slow) and you couldn't put it in a cart/horsecart, would removable engines really be an issue?
You could only steal an engine if a group of people decides to steal it (one person to carry and others to protect) aka a village raid.
But i agree that trading in general is pointless at the moment since everyone can do everything, means villages dont need to trade with other villages, because why would you trade if you can do it yourself?
Only viable trade atm would be iron/oil to use on engines.

There would definitely have to be a significant movement speed decrease or something if the solution was to make all engines removable. I can already picture a three year old running directly from the fire to the well to grab the engine, and then sprinting out of town with it, never to be seen again.

Yeah age restriction + big decrease in movement speed should do it.
