A funny thing about bear caves

https://onetech.info/650-Bear-Cave-empty

They refill with a new bear every 24 hours.

8 days means 8x bears.

Welp...

Also arrows require feather which only comes from wild geese, and you need 3 arrows to kill a bear, so killing all the wild goose + planting 1-2 arrow in each bear = no more arrows and unkillable bears

Re: A funny thing about bear caves

Not sure that anyone pointed this out, exactly.  "Too many bears," for sure, but why?  This is certainly why!  They keep respawning.

Given enough time, the entire rift would be completely filled with bear skins.

Re: A funny thing about bear caves

What if only caves with dead bears refill, while caves with roaming bears stay empty?
That way there's more control with how many bears are on the map.

And what if, instead of being woken, bears leave their caves once a day (or more) to find food? And then return home after a while? Griefers would have to wait for the bear to appear naturally before bringing it to a town.

Why have renewable bears when we do not have renewable arrows?    Just make each bear cave have one bear, full-stop.   When the bear is gone, the cave is empty.   We might run out of bears eventually, but surely we can find a way to carry on without them if we try hard enough.

Someone else suggested ponds regenerating geese. Maybe also plucking geese gives feathers, making them renewable even if all goose ponds are shot?

Obviously!

Respawning bears was an oversight on my part.  I'll fix it when I return from vacation.

Re: A funny thing about bear caves

What about also reducing the initial amount of bear caves?

5 bears from 5 caves are still five bears at a time, no matter how many charges there are left.

In one of my lives yesterday, my family was wiped out by griefers and I was left alone with nothing but my trusty horsecart.   I spent the rest of that life moving all the bears that I could find loose on the map back to the site of my dead village.

You would not believe how funny it looks to have a line of ten bears following you across the map.   There's something almost soothing about watching a swarm of bears move back and forth.

Give bears a function.

What if they radiate heat? wink
Keep a bear nearby, and you will always stay perfect temp!

I actually did feel very warm when the bears all tried to "hug" me at the same time.    I'll confess .. toward the end, I even started to name them.   Bears are actually quite friendly creatures.  They would always listen to me when I asked them to follow.

Except for Kevin.  Kevin was a twit.

The bear train is going THIS way, Kevin.   Get it together, jeez.

Dogs are also very cute, but it makes me sad when they get old and leave unremovable bodies around the village forever and ever.

it is much easier to permanently remove arrows from the game. no need to harm bears to temporarily occupy arrows.

I asked the bears and they say that it does actually hurt them to be stuck with arrows.   They would prefer that you store your excess arrows in the bison.

Re: A funny thing about bear caves

the rift is gone as "temporary fix", and 2 main families are called "happy" and "joy" and the game is significantly more playable.

go figure, everyone rejoices, and im even gonna tell you how to remove arrows, so that silly thing may get fixed at last.

i agtree, a wounded bear is too slow, and it only makes it easier to kill ALL bears, as it lowers the requirement to kill one bear. so i usually put those out of their suffering, and removed the arrow not only from the dead bear, but also from the game.

no. the trick is not about storing arrows anywhere, the trick is so much simpler:

Re: A funny thing about bear caves

24 hours is a loong time in game time, I'm not sure that's the root problem, but well if bears no longer respawn in caves then what happens to the caves after the bears leave? They just become dead space that never does anything?

Re: A funny thing about bear caves

It would be nice if empty bear caves looked different from occupied bear caves.    Or if empty bear caves provided some kind of useful crafting option - perhaps you could build a mine or stone quarry on an empty cave?
