How selfish should you be to be more effective?

Question for other players:

If I don't have clothes, or if I'm doing any project that involves moving items or going out of town I'm MUCH less effective without a backpack and clothing. At least some fur underwear and a hat or shoes. Running around naked makes you a black hole for food and you can't get much done.

So, if I'm not dressed as a baby or if I don't have a BP my first action is laser focused on correcting that.

This has always seemed a little "selfish" in some ways, especially because I make the pack outside of town to avoid getting my rabbits taken. I also notice that most players don't seem to do this? Is it that "selfish" ? Where do you draw the line?

Re: How selfish should you be to be more effective?

It's almost never selfish to make yourself clothes first. Everyone has the ability to go out there and fetch some basic level of clothing for themselves and it's not exactly your job to dress every single person from heat to toe before you make yourself something. The golden rule I stick by is you make a backpack for yourself, and you make a shirt for someone else. This way you know the backpack isn't being wasted and that someone else is gaining the benefit of reduced food drain.

Dress yourself first and if you feel like continuing to hunt for more rabbits to dress other people then great! Otherwise worry about yourself first and then reducing others food drain rates.

fug it’s Tarr.

Agreed with Tarr, in that making clothing isn’t selfish especially if you hunted the rabbits.

I usually don’t make a full set though. BP and loincloth and then I try to get loincloths for the town. I’m usually almost always able to find a seal to club if I’m running around for rabbits.

Re: How selfish should you be to be more effective?

well i remember the time when we got a lot of new players
when i got my furs stolen twice, and people didn't give a crap about what i made then i changed my habits

i don't care about clothing that much, like i can produce more food and that compensates in a way
but the pack is essential if you ever want to do advanced things

i generally go out and make pack there, find the last milkweed if no sheep yet, so it takes time and skill
also i gather a lot and explore often so it worth giving me one

it's selfish if you don't get one rabbit for the bellows, i hate that. when im not even the eve and people leach on food i produce and make themselves pack before tools
once i was so pissed at a sister who i saved from sure death and went makign clothes for herself when i asked to get me a few branches, that i cut all her furs apart

when i started the game i was making 9-10 packs in a life and didn't even had yarn , they didn't even decayed
im pretty bored of it and don't really imagine doing that for a whole life

i do packs for hard workers, i bring the snares home and tel lthem where to go or when im with horse i replace snares and get the rabbits in groups or take it home if im able

on s12 i was eve and ad a marathon of 5 hours, was easy to get back
after making 2 packs my first life and 4 on third, they say "not sure we can trust him"
basically built a city for them and made all the packs
so next life i just hid a set

we are on our own, you can do other things to contribute, smiting, rubber, compost, that all helps others, i don't like to be a leach but i wont be the person who feeds and gears everybody no matter what
if people are helpful i make them clothes, otherwise just if my path allows it
if there are many seals aroudn ofc i will bring some home
i only do packs and loin cloths from fur
you can also give sheep skins and straw hats as temporary measure

i make very fast pens and that saves on milkweed, generally is 50+ away by that time
so getting all tools done and possibly finding a vein is priority
the property fence pens are good enough to start compost and yarn and needle, then make a new or plant around/build around that
then make a knife for myself, do bread, sheep skins and some straw hats, mutton pies
if i got a horse i get back all the clothes i can find
