Have a baby girl, I'm super nice to her, make her a backpack by taking her to hunt rabbits, since both of her sisters had one and I didn't want her to feel left out. I was feeling good about the start I gave her in life, but she was a little quiet.
Anyway...
Her FIRST action is to grab the file from the smith put it in her bag and run. I tell her to put it down. She runs more. So, I get out the knife to stab her. I wanted to try some swift justice for once and there is no damn reason to put the file in your bag. She runs. My brother, who I was also nice to, stabs me because I have the knife and am chasing a kid. That's on me. I'm not too annoyed since didn't warn him about her, (I could have even gotten cursed, but I wanted to try a new way of dealing with griefers) As I die I'm like "She has the file in her bag. Total griefer" My brother seems to realize he made a mistake.
After I die I see in the family tree that Sandra killed my sister. (So predictable and boring.)
BUT THEN my brother got her! I whooped for joy when I saw THAT.
So, he knew I was right in the end. So satisfying. Too bad the town had to loose two women for it to happen. Next time I'll talk to him first *like I normally would* and THEN stab her. It was fun to just pull out the knife right after she didn't listen, but it made me look like the problem not her.
Anyway I have a question....
QUESTION: Are some griefiers more nasty when you are nice to them as a kid? Because, I feel like it's some kind of issue where being treated well pisses them off at some level. IDK. The most obnoxious griefers I've run in to as my kids have been the ones I was nice to but they just didn't say anything. I'm still gonna be nice to my kids and make things them things, though. Just keep an eye on the quiet ones and tell your brother or whoever else has a knife when you need to remove a pest.

From personal experience, most griefers are nasty whether you're nice to them or not. For example, a few nights ago I played my first eve run in quite a few weeks. And long story short, I ended up having only a single daughter, who was obviously going to run.. but decided not to when I told her "fuck you" for running and potentially dooming my run before it even really began.
My older son, the only kid that chose to stay, fed her berries and explained she was the only girl. I let him. And then she came back and decided to be a toxic little bitch, spouting shit like "fuck/you" "bitch" "go away" etc. She even snowballed me once and nearly caused the last baby I had [another little boy] to starve.
So I did the only right thing in the scenario and shot her with a bow, because I'd rather have no lineage at all than one hinged on this toxic player who literally did nothing the entire 15 minutes she was alive except sit in camp, eat berries, and call me names.
I highly doubt even if I was nice to her, she would've been a good daughter. From all appearances, she probably would've just ran off and starved like an ass, rather than /die and reset my timer, because fuck me amirite. I can only assume she stayed out of spite.

I've found that the most obvious griefers are those that have little game knowledge and often easily antagonize people around them. I assume that's probably due to wanting more infamy. I think the reason most griefers grief is at least in partway due to their frustrations about the crafting system, meaning that relative ease of destruction is more tempting then actually putting some work into the game and learning how to be a better player.
The griefers that I'm more frustrated with are those that have a wealth of in-game knowledge and know which actions can be performed in a village to slowly sap the critical resources in a village while pulling out the "I'm a beginner card."
In either case, I've found the best solution for griefers is to have consistent communication with others in the village about any sort of suspicious actions and making sure that sterile pads and needles w/ thread are available with a few emergency meds hidden elsewhere around the map in case of a murder. For overt griefing, such as bloody knife, snowballing or baby-kidnapping, disseminating information about the killer or kill method allows for more players to survive while you go around and search for a weapon or someone with a weapon (also useful for bear-based griefing).
There was also one time where I had a griefer pair try to frame me for killing all the sheep, but I persisted in trying to clear my name and even helped with getting more sheep, which was fun.
(If nothing else, when griefers kill you, I find that not giving them the satisfaction of angry typing but instead typing "lol" or something similar annoys them.)

I didn't do this, I wasn't her, and haven't ever done it, but someone carrying the steel file in a backpack might prevent more knives from getting made. Then again, maybe it just means someone who wants a knife will kill another goose and than make a knife, which just uses up more iron. I'm not saying she took the file for the reason of preventing knives getting made, but it's not out of the question in my mind at least.

Frankly, if someone grabs an item you were using or that needs to be near a place to work [file should be near forge, since you only use it on steel objects], and doesn't respond when you start asking questions, 9 times out of 10 they're probably griefing. Had a pair of twins do this to me the other night lmao.
There I am, setting up my cart with supplies to go mine an iron vein. Just finished the bucket for the stanchion kit, and swipe! Off goes a blonde twin with the bucket. Run after him yelling "wait/stop" but kid just keeps running. He eventually drops it so I grab it and return to town, passing word that they're griefers. His twin snags the cart I was gonna use as well.
Neither had anything to say til after they were stabbed, and even then were trying to spin it back on me with some convoluted "he was taking these items out of camp we took them back hes a griefer" bs. Nobody bought it.

On a somewhat unrelated note, Jk Howling's story reminds me of a question I always wanted to ask:
Does curse score only count for one twin or for both?
If it's only for one twin, then I feel like that would make it effectively harder to curse a griefer to 10 tokens, since the group would effectively need 20.

Yeah cursing a group of players only effects the person who is named. However, if one twin is sent to DT then if they remain twinning they'll both spawn in donkey town.

there are multiple strategies to keep the city safer
some people trust that people use knife in bakery
i wont leave weapons on sight, move boves a bit out and separate bows and arrows
the ones who take file, are the oens who think that they are good leaders and everyone around is newbee
it's more like a pattern and i seem to recognize this rp leaders, that's why i don't trust people who took file
sure, if you got multiple knives already and the town going ok, then you can take file but let a few people know
might as well lock it up in a small fence with some extra knives
but generally this rp doctors and rp town leaders don't do much just withhold resources so i end up killing them
very tipical behavior that they take every single fleece to make pads and the only knife in town cause they are doctors, but if they are dickheads i shoot them and no one can save them cause obviously they got the only knife and they try to prevent making more
there are 2 things when i know that disarming is better than distributing: no compost and no one tends to fire. this lives i will just take every weapon i see and stab every person who kills
also generally try to give pack to hard workers so they can have storage and weapons
the other life i had this girl born, first girl after a while, she got everything we had that time
the other two kids helped making a huge milkweed field, this one just calls me "old goosefucker", i could have kill her still despite being old and naked, seems like some people hate males and love their noob moms anyway

To be fair, I never griefed if mum was actually caring to me.
I think it's right to stab suspicious babies right away, Along with emote spammers, /devious and runner babies.
