There are still too many ponds.

I've only lived 2 lives since the update, both in mid-sized towns without coal newcomon pumps. What I saw is what I've been seeing before the update: clusters of ponds, various shallow and deep wells in various states of update. One town did have a bunch of cisterns, but thy didn't really need them, there were enough ponds that when one well ran dry people could just upgrade another.

Are ponds really more rare? I found ponds in places I don't normally see them as well, and this just added to the clustering effect. A pond in a stone biome another in the yellow. People were running buckets from the pond in the stone biome for some reason to fill the cisterns. Someone else saw this, made another deep well with one of the ponds in town putting stop to the running.

Im really confused...

Re: There are still too many ponds.

You have to remember the map didn't get culled. If stuff already existed it didn't just get wiped out and replaced (hence all the towns with multiple wells in clusters and what not.)

We probably won't see the true effects until the Eve spiral shoots far enough out to his fresh parts of the map where players didn't see things before the update. It'll probably take a few days and boom, we'll start seeing where the really troubles hit and if they're bad or reasonable.

Re: There are still too many ponds.

No, ponds are NOT more rare.  That they increased in quantity comes as a consequence of the spawning near tree bug that Jason fixed.  Jason never said anything about decreasing the quantity of ponds, and I'm fairly sure he knew that ponds would increase in quantity after fixing the longstanding spawning bug.  So, I don't feel surprised by what you've described as the case (and from what I saw your description sounds right).  Filling the cisterns means that the ponds end up less likely to completely overfill and stop their regeneration cycle later in principle, though I don't know that such is likely to happen, unless the cisterns store water from distant water sources not getting used for farming constantly.  I think that importing water from distant sources has always been a viable strategy to some extent since cisterns have existed.  However, it takes a bucket and someone has to run the buckets of water, which takes more time than running a diesel engine at a, I guess theoretical at this point in time perhaps, town center.

Just to speak clearly though if you find more than one well in an area, then you are NOT playing in a town that started since the update.  A spring can spawn very close to ponds, so one well or pump near ponds doesn't tell you anything.  But, if you find two, then it basically didn't get up and rolling with the new meta and is a resettlement.  If you want to understand how the new game mechanics work and what to do in terms of strategy, don't play those old towns, only play the new ones without well clusters.

It had to be new gen, though because there were springs...

Re: There are still too many ponds.

Stuff gets sprinkled around regardless. If he added giant chocolate bunnies to the prairie next update even towns that are much older than the update will have chocolate bunnies added to them.

The only thing that really messed up the game is whenever he adds a new biome which shifts all the other biomes regardless of what they were before the update. I remember watching a desert town become completely frozen over into an arctic as apparently the update turned it into an ice age village lel.

Re: There are still too many ponds.

Tarr is correct, and I can confirm that less theoretically.  I've seen springs in locations that I know have gotten seen within a week on server12.  So, you will see springs near old spots.  You will not see well clusters though, unless the town didn't make two shallow wells.  You can also check fault lines, since all springs lie along a fault line.

Re: There are still too many ponds.

Yes, ponds are probably more common now than they were before, because they don't block other ponds to the south.  There was a bug in the code as to what counted as a "tall" object to the south.

Re: There are still too many ponds.

So many ponds. I think it's be better if they had a little more water and there were fewer, but perhaps this is old terrain?

I'm taking advantage of ponds outside of swamps near soil but a little bit far from town. Grab a basket, bunch of skewers and bowl and hunt rabbits and farm tons of milkweed all at the same time.

Beautiful combination of killing two birds... er... rabbits?... with one stone futurebird!  It's always good to have more ideas as to what rabbit hunters can do while rabbit hunting.

Re: There are still too many ponds.

they shouldn't, hard to understand for people why ponds arent good enough anymore

maybe buff them a bit but no refill? and they decay or turn into something else?
clay deposits with a cost?

Re: There are still too many ponds.

I like ponds refilling.  I do not think water refill rates need to change.
