Family Roles, Occupations

I think that a great way of adding more drama and stories to the game, in line with what Jason wants, is the introduction of actual family roles. these could be:

* A town leader, who assigns roles and manages the clan. This position can be passed on to a new leader at any time, or stolen. The original eve is by default the first town leader.

* Job Occupations - Bakers, Farmers, Smiths etc. - The items that these specialists produce can be buffed to make them better then those made by non-specialists. There can only be x number of specialists per family, making human resources a commodity worth trading or fighting over.

* New Family Roles for Men  - Adopted Fathers, mentors etc. - Make men feel more involved by allowing them to take on official roles in child rearing. This would also create tensions and drama between different branches of the family, and create a chance for alliances and enhanced relationships.

* Allow alliance declarations or declarations of war between families, the town leader can declare them etc.

Those who are unhappy with their lot in life can join another family, or set off on their own and create a new family (under certain circumstances).

These are just ideas, it would be up to Jason to impart his vision on Family roles. I think that it would create the type of drama that he is looking for though, create new reasons to live, create stories etc.

Re: Family Roles, Occupations

roleplay smith: hes a smith in town with no iron

roleplay medic: makes pads from the fleece you produced for your apron, heals the griefers, begs for aprons and paints it red cross

roleplay shepperd: begs for knife, pack, does everything with sheep, except making the pen,  getting the sheep, cleaning the pen, but makes duplicate spindles and arrives late all the time and complains that he is the sheeperd

Re: Family Roles, Occupations

I don't want to be assigned a job based on who my parents are. I'm open to my family asking me to do some task, that I like but it's kinda fun to decide what to do.

Re: Family Roles, Occupations

Thats part of the fun of it futurebird, the town leader can either be a prgmatist who assigns jobs based off of merit, or an ass who does it based off of grudges.

That would make each life interesting. Thats for sure. If a baby lies to you and says it knows how to smith, but it doesnt, then the other villages with a competent smith will have a leg up on you. Your family can still use the forge and make normal tools, but the ones made by a smith would be twice as durable, allowing for better iron usage and a stronger civilization.

there are no telephones & there are no earpieces in OHOL
so we don't need that job tongue

but you can set up a hospital & become a nurse
& if it pleases you, you can tell everybody that you are actually a telephone earpiece sanitizer !

so we need the job of nurses or doctors maybe ...

about jobs
