Issue was resolved, photos of my texture pack as I go though

So I was playing around with the idea of adjusting some textures for fun, but am unsure of the limitations and ran into an issue immediately. All I did so far was adjust the texture for fire but kept the pixels the same, same aspect ratio and everything, literally just changed the color to see if it would work. When I try to load into a game though I get stuck on waiting to be born even though I can hear the sounds of the game and hear myself being fed by my mother and such. Why would it break from such a single change?

So basically just wondering if anyone else here did this yet with success.

Not yet replaced any textures (albeit I planned to do this at some point with mosquitoes) but I remember having had this as well nevertheless...On Linux... I don't remember for sure, but I believe it was due to after building the client not starting it while sitting ("cd"'ing) in the correct directory ("current working directory"). Better use "./OneLifeApp" in the checkout root. If you using Windows or Mac. No idea.

Directory doesn't matter, I can put the game anywhere on my computer and play it fine until I change any texture.

Ah, I figured it out. For future reference for others, when using gimp to export a new TGA file you need to turn off the RLE compression and set origin to bottom left.

Not looking too shabby so far now. Mostly done with the ground textures. Still need to do some more smoothing to make it harder to see where it repeats.

You need to clear the ground tile cache.

You replaced the "big square," but the old green edge tiles (generated automatically by the game at startup if they're not there) are still being used wherever a big square does not fit.

Oops, now see other thread where you figured this out.

But for anyone else.

FWIW, these are the kinds of "mods" that I would love to see more of, because they don't divide the playerbase.  Skins, essentially.

Re: Issue was resolved, photos of my texture pack as I go though

yeah, i figured, right after i asked big_smile just went out of folder and seen the cache map and it instantly clicked

you could give some support like skins menu with options and choices, and it would clear cache and ask for restart, also good way to backup in case of accident to store user files separately
possibly a screen for upload, then some players could approve the files, format and people download it trough game? its fine without that
maybe i can do an installer with options and pseudo previews

the format is tricky, but other than that is easy to edit them

i got more ideas btu don't want to spoil it yet big_smile

Can you edit the faces/characters, using this method?

Yes. You'll probably have to figure out some of the important details on your own.

faces are a group of face parts which you need to find one by one

the easiest would be the wigs
also you wouldn't really see them if you dont see the character so you would need to edit all of them, while a rabbit fur clothing type edit would be seen multiple times in a game
