...Is the people that don't want to work so they die unless they're female and in a town
And then they spend their childhood talking/eating pies/putting berries into bowls or baskets/feeding babies that already have someone to feed them
And then when they have their own children they keep every. single. one. To give them an excuse to not work. They even feed other peoples' kids, even if the other people say "there's no room, sorry" or are already feeding the kids.
God forbid there's a murder... they'll be sitting around talking about it for ten minutes. And then they'll overeat because there will be nothing else to do but eat. And then when they're in their late forties they'll call all their children and grandchildren and be like "Grandma loves you even though she never did anything to help improve the town you have to live in, also a famine's probably coming soon because grandma kept too many babies"... and then she'll give her clothes to a cute grandkid and spend the last ten minutes of her life talking about how she loves this town and wishes everyone prosperity... yeah, that bugs me a lot.

if a mother is dumb, then the kids who are newbies and wait for instructions, will be dumb and useless.
i seen old people and mothers give useless tasks: 'help farm"- quite a bad generic job, if there is no compost and no upgraded well, then the kid goes around for 5 min and cant find a bowl or basket, cant find soil, cant find water, goes to do something else or nothing.
they even say 'expand berry farm' or go hunt, but the thing is, this are generic answers cause they dont know what and where is and they just tell stuff to act smart.
is it so hard to say "get firewood"
i generally put a kid to make boards once the froh is done, guess what? i get some ropes and we got carts
lot of people listen , even ask for a task, giving the right answer solves the whole problem
if you dont know, is it so hard to say: 'go to that guy, he knows what he is doing'
too many babies leads to famine as nobody helps them or teaches them
i hate other females, im the only female you need, one sister, maybe i disconnect, but i surely wont die, and i dont wanna see babies running around without proper instructions.
but she is right, people talk too much, and do nothing.
and generally the same people curse you for anything.
you can feed them for 50 min, they dont care. i seen people picking out berries from the bowl i put down for a second to make some compost, cause "there is no food", well it was no food ten minutes ago, and you didnt care, dont ruin my work, go scavenge or make some food, real food.
also they gear the babies with clothes they didnt make and tell how much they love their kids, then when it dies they scavenge the clothes for the next one, and its so much easier to look for clothes when you dont do nothing.
also dont dare to ask their dumb baby to give a backpack to you, you must be a griefer. until you are around they refusing to feed a kid, 'what she thinks? im not a nurse', while they do nothing anyway and have 3 kids around them. when you dont see a kid, they pick it up and name it in a second before you could put down an item.
i seen this player, i got a rope from far away, she took it, told her to put down, no reaction, disarmed her with a snowball. her dumb mother came with a bow on me, then stood in berry field telling everyone im a griefer, i disarmed the other fella and took the arrow and hid it, one single person was working, and i tried to, but she didnt let me, trained her kdis to curse me and try to kill me. that went on for like 30 min, she never had clothes, she never made any food, and she quit at 40 when she couldnt have more kids to manipulate. and she talked about how much she hates me, when i already forgot who she is.

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

if someone is new when they are my child, i always give them the same tasks.
make a basket, make a sharp stone, make a home marker than go into the wild, survive on wild food and bring back things you find interesting when your basket is full.
I do this because the most basic skill that needs to be learnt is how to survive with nothing and it prevents them from becoming berry munchers when they discover they can explore the map easily without dying. it also gets them in a good position to have children as eve and with luck their first child will be able to show them the ropes for that part of the game.
if not, i just give them specific tasks to help in whatever project i am doing at the moment, so i can either focus on a different part (ex: getting me wheat for compost) or fixing some other issue that I spotted (go from baking to tending a carrot field).

Those aren't mutually exclusive.

This idea that only noob players die during a famine isn't necessarily true. I was just apart of a big town and noticed we were running out of soil so I started getting compost going but couldn't get berries due to all the berry bushes dying. I had been the baker and the last basket of pies had just been nicked. No berries and no pies with the stew all the way on the other side of the camp= death. Now you could look at this and just say 'lol what a noob move!" but seriously, I spent my whole life poppin out pies and when I got hungry and went to get a pie, all of them had been taken, presumably by the large batch of young new children born who didn't know that them eating pies is wasteful.

True, it's not just noobs. Mid-levels can definitely die in a famine. But once you get a little more experience under your belt, you'll start to recognize impending famines well before they happen, and then whether you die or not depends on whether you want to push hard to save the town (and possibly die with it, but maybe not) or instead be more conservative and save yourself and maybe a handful of others.

Fun fact ... children eating pies is actually LESS wasteful than adults eating berries. Seems counter-intuitive, but the math supports it.
Assuming you are making meat pies (rather than any pie with berries), the amount of food pips provided by the pies compared with the amount of labor and resources that go into making the pies is better than berries. In fact, it is a LOT better. Pies are pretty amazing. They pack in a lot of pips, compared to other food options, and meat pies are very cost-efficient. So much so that even if your children are wastefully eating pies, your village has to spend less resources to replace the food they are eating than if all the children were to stick to a "non-wasteful" diet of berries only.
Ideally, once a village has sheep, eating berries should be viewed in the same light as eating carrots. Something that should be avoided by EVERYONE who is capable of finding a better food option (pies/milk, stew, turkey broth, etc). Berries and carrots are food for sheep. Pies and stews are food for people.
That being said, it really sucks that you died in the middle of a town as the baker. It is situations like that which make me super annoyed when I can't manage to get my hands on an apron or backpack for my entire life because they keep getting handed over to random babies instead of being passed on to hard-working adults.
