Recently I decided to write down the age my children would usually make it to. So I've got a smaple sizes above 100 and am planning to get more. Here are the stats for the current sample size:
In percentages:
Suicider (afk infants included) = 26,5 %
Young deaths (0-13) = 47 %
Adult deaths (14-54) = 18,8 %
Elder deaths (55-60) = 7,7 %
So as one can see based on these stats you are incredibly likely to get a child that will die before they reach the age of 14. I'll also say that most of the adult deaths i noted died before they reached 20. From this it seems that general player base has issues surviving past their childhood even in well established villages. These results in themselves aren't particularly surprising since there are always a ton of dead children in basically every family tree.
Here are the links to all the lives included in the sample size:

Playing OHOL optimally is like cosplaying a cactus: stand still and don't waste the water.

Can you specify what you mean by giving them a purpose? Because I usually question my kids if they are new or not, and if they are and they tell me they can for example tend berries I give them that job. Also if I get very new players willing to learn I usually teach them, but I have quite a few times experienced them dying of starvation while I was teaching them. Even when I have told them to keep themselves fed.
Outside of that I experience that there are either a lot of players who proclaim themselves to not be new, who are in fact new. What am I supposed to do in those situations, because I just presume that since they are saying that they aren't new that they know what to do. Am I supposed to teach each and every one of my children, even when they say they aren't new?
I also feel like you are making assumptions about how I play without context.

Tell them what you're doing and ask if they want to help.
That works for both new and old players alike. If they're new you'll end up teaching them, if they're experienced they'll either learn something new or have fun working together on something.

Do you expect this to be different than the average birth death info jason posts for some specific reason? Otherwise, you should get the same results looking at the dataset for all lives.

I sometimes will give a few things we need. Like I'll say nobody is baking now, or we could use more bowls or iron, or we need to get some compost going. Let the kid decide what they want to do from the things I said. Normally these are things on my own list that I want to do but get interrupted by kids, or can't run too far out to look for stuff cos I'm now campbound due to kids, so I'll tell them to do it or help me.

nah, even as eve you cant really follow up on all kids, if you just talk until 40, nothing gets done
if you start to explain things, he next baby on your neck before you finish talking to the first one
babies cant answer, or tell you what their plans are, "help farm" well, that's not really an ideal instruction, i found people helping more if you show them where soil is
i thought it comes without saying, but you also need to tell them about wild animals, i had a perfect place, desert with no snake, a small bottleneck to bigger desert, easy to close off, and an empty jungle near it, 2-3 ponds, south of it other swamp but not much water
the only drawback was that the other swamp had 2 boars
i had a dumb girl making oven right away like we would need it before axe, then she was offended and quit, the other just ran into a snake in 1 minute, then the last one half minute later ran into the swamp with the 2 boars for no reason and died instantly
where i see potential, good temperature fields and good industry, others see trees and mosquitoes, i can make it work anywhere but i realized i should keep it more simple, on eve runs swamp majority works better
people wont say they are new cause they are afraid you let them die
some even skip out the baby ages and just afk trough it, hoping you keep them alive anyway
or they are not speaking english
then there are people who quit cause the town is too big or too small
because their gender
because someone is stabbed
because the kiln and farms are on wrong spot and would need major redesign
there is a lot of variables
then if you arent the only female, others can interfere too
teaching can be very easy for adult males as they can focus on one kid
but you also need excess resources, tools and a need for something
its easy to see who is new, wondering around trying to find stuff to do
if their mother is new, will give jobs that arent really required
1 bowl 5 kids try to fix the bushes, too many branches, but someone still collecting it, its not bad but not useful either
i rarely see people do pottery, gather firewood, branches for kindling, make a milkweed farm, cut boards
this are easy jobs to learn in one life and useful at any stage
"help with farm" doesn't say much to people
some just got bad intentions and don't give a fuck
lot of newbies die cause they cant find things, bad timings, silly errors, and lot of people don't care about anyone but themselves, or just raise their own kids and let others die
your result wont be much different from other people
a kid who lives to 60, would do it anyway
maybe if you interact with someone can survive 10-20 minute longer cause it keeps him interested in the current game
if someone reaches full food bar at 14, his chances of surviving are much higher
so anyone who dies between 14-40 is mostly new
females quitting at 40 is very common
males stick around longer, due to no stress of babies
sponges learn to take all advanced things and leach on others and survive longer but got no positive effect on anyone else life quality
i had too many games to care, i give a chance cause they might be someone i know, someone decent
i let a lot of newbees die if the camp is smal land has no tools/compost
i pick up babies and based on how they follow and where they stand, regarding temperature, i keep them
i got good timings, and can raise them, while working on things
sometiems its just very annoying to stop a job and take care of a baby, especially if it runs around wasting the temperature bonus
a kid can grow up with 3 feedings
im annoyed by overly attached mothers who grab you every 2 seconds and drop you left and right and i totally get if they drop me to a nurse
but a lot of people quit if their mother doesn't instantly pick them up and carries them around talking to them

It still amazes me how many deaths are from starvation. Though i get killed by animals a lot, cause I'm always running around the wilds gathering this and that. I've also just had some games recently with bad animal luck, you know bears everywhere etc.
I'll tell you what I tell all my children: Make basket, always carry food.
Listen to your mom!

I will say this. There wasn't a specific intent in showing this data. Just because the stats shows what it shows doesn't mean I'm gonna tell anyone to begin abandoning kids, "because they are just going to die young anyway". I was only curious about the amount of kids die at what age. And I realize now that I should have probably classed elder as something like (40-60) instead of (55-60), due to something like what pein mentioned about many female players suiciding at 40.
But in general this thread wasn't supposed to be analyzing why all my kids are dying at such a young age. I'm fairly certain that a lot of other players (veterans included) have similar stats. I would love for someone to honestly claim that the majority of their children makes it to the fertility age (14).
Also I just took games one after the other without cherrypicking them, and those Eve were really bad and I fully acknowledge that. They went the way they did due to in part my actions. The first was in a spot where there were little heat and at some point me and the family neglected collecting food to the village which caused my only girl to die of starvation when it could have been avoided. The second Eve run was just a complete misjudgement on my part, as I found a good spot but there was a ton of wildlife around. To circumvent that I thought I could get it under control if just started making a bow early, and as you can see on that family tree i couldn't. Those Eve runs were complete failures, end of story.
But it seems like the original intent of this post was lost in translation, since you are mostly eager to comment on how bad of a mother I am, so I have no more interest in continuing collection of more data.
For the time being, I think we have enough content.
