Just was messing around in one of the custom servers and made this:
The main goal of the design is to make it hard for other people to stand in the way of important things. The flat stones have stone blocks beneath them preventing people from standing in the way, the only way they could stand in the way of something is if they stand in the lower flat stone but because there is no incentive to stand there is highly unlikly they ever will. The other purpose is to be able to quickly access the forges items, for example you can smith on all 4 flat stones without having to move a tile, this is good for smithing multiple items in comparison to the basic 3 row across where you are moving side to side to forge them. There is also a good bit of room on either side of the forge if you wanna space out your tools or start setting up crucibles.
All in all its not a very complex design but its definitely a step up from your basic forge.

Just move the forge outside the city.
The issue is always the same, in the eve camp they build the kiln near the farm, because everything is small. Then they use it for the startup tools. Then the city grows the eve kiln/forge becomes the smithy right in the middle of the town. Just rebuild another smithy a little outside of the city and you can smith in peace...
I'm just a little torn on the question if the old smithy should be destroyed or not.

old smithy is a town center for noobs, they cant use it, but it means a city for them, not a camp, as they know they are just running in forest until they die, if they don't have a kiln
i still see mothers every damn time putting babies down next to kiln for whatever reasons
getting 4 adobe and making new kiln actually is faster than telling everyone to leave the forge area

I actually like the idea of blocking areas where people would stand. It annoys me horribly when people keep too close to the forge.

Pretty much what everyone said. Move your kiln instead of making some goofy setup to block areas around yourself unless doing like a room. With your set up you completely muck up any sort of horizontal smith (all those blocks are where some people put the bowls/plates) while also mucking with vertical smiths.
fug it’s Tarr.

With eve camps put the kiln next to or near water. later when the city grows then it can be used for charcoal making for the pumps.
There is no reason to make closing chest over a box.
The space behind the kiln is for the Adobe.
Need 3 type stacks going: iron, wort iron, and steel
Need a machine shop nearby also I like to put an oven in the machine shop to make rubber.
3/5 this was an ok setup before the machining update, now it to cramp and hard to expand

It was more to make it look better aesthetically but thanks
