Thanks ryanb for onetech
Today i was in a big city with like 100 berry bushes, tons of iron and stuff
never had a kid, and only one girl left alive, mom was eve and came back?
My niece was comatose but had 4? kids, one of them afk out and one was quite ok, one i didn't notice and her sis couldnt save her
while her mom was fertile still feeding her, and had another kid before a grandkid, but we still were like 3 people
i just cut out the berry farm for kindling as no way i could fix all that, and i knew it will be a mess anyway, and just wanted to try the car making, i kinda just tended for a few babies, and planted a mango tree other than the things needed for the car
i made a box for charcoal baskets and a few buckets of water
i had to fetch a lot of firewood, and first time i tried out the new machines
we had an engine well which is awesome, less hassle than a newcomen with kerozine upgrade
i realized that i will waste a lot of charcoal and water if i do it like that, but was my first time and best learning is trying
ideal setup: make the multipurpose newcommen foundation 3 tiles from the kilns, you can have extra kilns just for making charcoal and kindling from a tree farm, possibly poplar farm to signal the purpose
have a box next to the hammer, and a cistern under it for fast refills
you can ask for help as it's a lot of iron needed for a single engine
i kept onetech open and had to search for each piece, and had to do the same thing a few times
i was able to assemble one diesel piston head, one cylinder head with 2 valves
someone lost the car(i presume we had one from the extra parts and the fact that we even had an engine well) and someone took the blade from the bore mechanism so i had to make new
the parts are tiny so keep them organized, very hard to find them and figure out the next steps
anyway i spent a bit of time afterwards to make a mindmap, as onetech is still step by step which can be confusing with multiple parts, or same part multiple time, also you need the same thing in different machines or different order and you waste a lot of time making one thing but not making the rest same time

not fully complete, processing of kerosene planned, also the tire making process
just im a bit tired already
i can still edit, so if you find an error tell me
the pipes will be needed by the burner and the valves, so i think 8 is the correct amount of rods
the numbers are standing for making the other parts for multipurpose newcommen, and one engine for the car
the first mindmap i made was pretty good , but i realized the common elements and how much time wasted if you do the parts one by one

I thought I am spending too much time on thinking about game design and future changes. But I am not nearly halway psycho like you, pein
Very nicely done. What program did u use for picture? GIMP?
Suggestions: more basic tools, hugs, more violence, day/night, life tokens, yum 2.0

snagit for the grab(i grab part of screen not full), and snagit editor, its kinda nice for cutting parts out and rearranging
the numbers are the default stamps, color coded to remember that you need other machine for that parts
.snag is saved and still can be edited without flattening the elements and i can drag around the things if i see a better positioning

Very impressive mindmap, pein, kudos.
I'm starting to despair of ever working with the new tech, because I'm doing all my learning in-game, but I'm still sticking with it for now. I finally figured out how to make Newcomen engines; I learned how to assemble and use them all right after they were introduced, but it took me forever to figure out the secret of making the individual parts.
I watched some people working on diesel engines over the weekend, so I learned about a few of the parts and some of the steps... but I can tell there's so much complexity it's gonna be a lost cause without looking things up on onetech.
On the plus side, someone taught me to make pork tacos! That was fun.

im just the one who wants to see the full picture, and if i got a question i wont stop until i answer it
at the start was harder to learn a few things, eve runs get the best out of you and dead towns allow wasting some stuff in order to learn
i guess is not cheating to know how many you need of each item first step, i kinda figured out ingame that i need the same steps again
it costed me a few extra coal and water buckets, but i would have figured out without onetech
once you done the whole thing alone its easier next time
it still takes time to explore the city and resume someone else work without wasting resources
also learned to make the tire part, which is easier , you might only do the small and big pulleys and put 3 raw tires on it, which helps making the engine, also you can make an upgraded hand cart and the 4 wheels with tires
it's a separate job, yet very helpful to separate, if you do it en mass, its always better
had a few lifes making 8+ rubber and its rewarding even if the city dies out, next eve might still have a cart working

I recently made some improvements to the onetech recipe page. Here it is for the Running Crude Car:
https://onetech.info/2396-Running-Crude-Car/recipe
Once you learn how to use the recipe page, it can really help determine how many to make of each thing. First look over the ingredients at the top to determine what you don't have. Likely 16 iron and the Disconnected Pulley Drive Mechanism which is another 2 iron. So you will need to gather 18 iron assuming you have all of the other ingredients listed.
If you look at the recipe for the pulley drive you can see it crafts the two iron into a large/small pulley. The car recipe crafts the rest of the iron into:
5 x Steel Rods
10 x Steel Piston Blanks
1 x Fuel Tank
You take two of the steel rods to make 2 cam shafts, and 3 to make steel pipes. What you do with the piston blanks is more complicated but it all happens within the Diesel Crank Assembly recipe. It tells you how many precision pistons, injection nozzles, etc. to make and how to assemble it.
Another suggestion is to scan over the entire recipe (and sub recipes) for each "Firing" object to see how to use each one. This will help you optimize what you need to do for each and if you can do it all in one go.
Some of the numbers are off such as the number of charcoal baskets since it doesn't know you can split a big pile of charcoal into 3 little charcoal. However most of the numbers should be correct.

as i was building the tire station i realized better keep a Disconnected-Pulley-Drive-Mechanism there if you want multiple engines
at least until you make like 5-6? raw tires with it and timing belts
what i miss on onetech is like more compact view for structures, like show 4x stone+ newcommen hammer same window
and maybe = sign, and link the things together
most new recipes got an end for each
also you could make the popup windows stay and revert top/bottom
but making a mind map helps to imagine and comprehend all the things, so if it would be too easy than i wouldn't memorize it
generally i just scrolled trough all pages and i knew what to do if i done at least once
eventually i want to do without looking at anything

I plan to add a filter option to the recipe page soon. Basically you will be able to filter the recipe list by any object to see all the ways that object is used by that recipe.
For example, you could concisely see what you use the Newcomen Hammer for to craft a car.
Hopefully I will add this in the next day or two.

Pein, on your image, you need to edit things more and simplify things. Try to aim at doing it like this:
You like writing about things about ohol, but if you want people to be able to absorb what you are trying to say more through text or images, try to improve your end product. Use proper grammar, capital letters at the start of a new sentence, divide your post into part etc. And on images, imagine how you want it to look when finished, can it be made more compressed / more clear? Be creative!

this is the internet brudah, get used to it
more compact wont always mean better
i made one then i realized the logic behind it so i tried to make it meet on the middle, like the side products come in from side, kinda
yours is ok but missing all the steps of assembly, its not a help when you are doing it first time, when you already know its kinda good reminder and i guess holding them in hand you could put them together, but understanding how it comes together is different
as i told is not finished, i can still edit it, but i dont get a chance every game to make it distraction free
as i will get some game experience i figure out a way how to do it fast and arrange it simply
yeah i want a 0 to 100 setup and total cost
knowing that you need 8 iron to make a mine if you grind it out without shovels and hoes, can skip out a lot of hassle, same for the car or engine well or all the newcomen
the box with charcoal baskets, the cistern is good starting point
i would build a diamond newcomen pen around it, like 6x6 diagonals with a one way grave entrance maybe behind tree, and a locked door
also separate forge for the basic steel tools
and kinda need a new setup for tree planting which makes kindling and firewood faster
in time will be better, i think is still nice

I didn't write about the assembly, because I wanted to focus on the newcomen components as it's the only difficult part of the process, besides making the timing belt. If you got everything the assembly is easy peasy by just reading what to use with what.
Offline
yeah i know but that only helps if you know the process, lot of us cant even imagine how all those parts fit together
but you got an interesting table, not sure if i can use the form

I've added the ability to filter the crafting recipe on onetech. Just right-click on an ingredient or object in the recipe to show only the transitions which use that object.
For example, on the Running Crude Car recipe you can right click one of the Newcomen engines in the ingredient list to see what uses that engine. This way you can determine what to do when that engine is firing.

the order of things into hammer, roller bore lathe
might be a use for it once you made the pistons, also to show it on a single page or resort the job for others
10 piston
-2 bore then lathe
-8 lathe 1x then 6 lathe again
5 rod 2 lathe 1 lathe again posibly with the pistons
3 to pipe with bore then 2 to lathe 1 to tank
best order:
10 piston
5 rod
lathe 2 rods then 1 again and 8 pistons and 6 twice, if cant, leave it for next step
bore 2 pistons then 3 rods
lathe the 2 precision cilinders 2 pipes and if you coudlnt do all 19 from 3rd step
assemble
add a tank to 3rd pipe
add on car box
in case if all multipurpose attachments ready and enough rubber
need an average of 10 items per fire to save on resources so might ask help
then it takes 5 buckets of water and 5 charcoal only, ideally
but generally maybe 1-2 more each
prep work helps: clear all items you don't need
prepare everything you need
possible set steel near the kiln, and newcommen right 2 away so you got a few spaces in those 2 columns

Pein, optimal for 1 user is:
10 pistons + 2 pulleys in 2 hammer uses
5 Rods in 1 Roller use
2 cilinders 3 pipes in 1 Bore use
2 fuel nozzle 2 precision pistons 1 camshaft 1 crankshaft 6 steel Valve in 2 lathe uses
I wonder if its doable in 1 hammer 1 lathe with very sharp coordination.
Anyways the first two pulleys should come from the first hammer use (2 small pulleys 4 big pulley) -> 2 Big into roller 1Big 1 small into bore/lathe 1Big 1small into engine.

Also please don´t start engine production without oil, it´s awful how many new people just start making engine parts when you need iron for the Oil rig and pipes, like seriously, I had once oil after 1 pipe other times 5 or 10. Once I hit it after 17 pipes, no joke. Mean is 5 but variance is too high in a geometric distribution. Get oil first and get the refinery going then start the engine/car production.

kinda same thing, and you cant really do 17 clicks anyway from once
and if you ask people they might do it once instead o twice or twice instead of once, etc.
generally i value space over the bit of speed that a closer newcommen gives
ofc 2 people can do it one use but i rarely find capable people
also i rarely find enough rubber for the rest of engine
i can do alone max 9-10 uses when needs kiln and newcommen if nobody disturbs and the ground is clear or i can only do 5-6
and ofc when no oil then you just need extra pipes and stuff
i finished others work a few times, generally they do all the pistons and rods (nowadays those get made into swords by assholes)
had 2 runs today where i made a huge progress and was easy to finish it up but i rarely get a chance to use a car
actually is quite fun to scavenge with a car, and funny when a kid born then the snake bites it and you cant go over the snake
also lot of time people steal the horses or cars so i make a small garage for it
some assholes stil ltake it from under you when you jump off to grab a bite
