Milkweed farming

So it took me a while to get this right. I had wondered why some times the stump would grow back and some times not. The trick is to harvest the milkweed only when it is fruiting (after the flowering stage). Any other time will lead to a stump that eventually dies.

Re: Milkweed farming

Oh, I bet the same thing goes for rabbits with family and rabbits without family, too. Yeah, I checked the recipe list and indeed it does. It seems like abandoned rabbit holes should eventually repopulate after a sufficiently long period of time (a day, or longer if necessary), but I don't see that they do.

Re: Milkweed farming

Can anyone confirm that rabbits do eventually repopulate a hole if you wait until it is a "rabbit family"? I experimented with this but AFAIK the holes remained empty. Does it take more than one hour for them to return?

Re: Milkweed farming

In v50 the rabbits do not grow back

Source: http://mc.edmi.nl:1340/onelife/#Abandoned Rabbit Hole
195 Abandoned Rabbit Hole
Rabbit Hole with Used Snare#single = Snare + Abandoned Rabbit Hole

Re: Milkweed farming

Rabits do grow back if snared in the family state. Search for
```Rabbit Hole with Used Snare#family = Snare + Rabbit Hole#growing```
Re: Milkweed farming
Hmm, I see.
164 Rabbit Hole#out,single
5 Seconds + Rabbit Hole#peeking2,single = Rabbit Hole#out,single
Walk Over + Rabbit Hole#out,single = Rabbit Hole#hiding,single
Snare + Rabbit Hole#out,single = Snared Rabbit Hole#hiding
600 Seconds + Rabbit Hole#out,single = Rabbit Family Hole#out
We catch a rabbit if there is a single left.
It will cost 10 minutes to grow a rabbit back.
I'm not sure you interpreted that correctly. The 600 seconds is to go from Single Rabbit to Rabbit Family. Growing back a rabbit apparently takes 60 minutes (an epoch), which I don't think you can verify from the recipe list.
Re: Milkweed farming
I do agree with OldBaby  though,  even the rabbit holes that were snared without a baby rabbit should eventually respawn as well, perhaps after 24 hours or 48 hours,   otherwise permanent civ destruction is inevitable because newbs are inevitable and trolls are inevitable, and in this case, and milkweed for example, it only takes a single one to permanently destroy a civ.
Re: Milkweed farming
I have thought that it would be good to have some way to restore rabbits. Milkweed can be replanted, ponds can be refilled, soil can be made from compost but rabbits and geese are finite. Maybe using a rope on a snared rabbit family would give you a trapped rabbit that you can use on an abandoned rabbit hole to turn it into a rabbit hole.
Soil is also finite now.
Is this what the cool kids call a "Necro Post"?
It was on front page, someone must have necroed before me then deleted their comment. Nevertheless, good reminder for the recent wave of noobs.
Re: Milkweed farming
Our first Necromancers have arrived.
Wroms (and Soil) are finite. Rabbits technically are not. 60 minutes for hole to repopulate and additional 10 for it to get family so you can snare it again.
Wild carrots seeds respawn after 60 minutes as well.
Basically: The more we diversify our diets now, the more people we can sustain on renevable resources.
Yay! I was half-tempted to necro the post about pie efficiency, but that would probably be inappropriate given the pie/wheat nerf.
Ah, the good old days!  It was all about the water.  Funny how those details quickly became irrelevant?  But focusing on the details helped build an understanding of overall strategies, which still matter.
Hopefully some new technology or strategies push us beyond this current soil obsession...
