Yes. With zoomed out FOV mod you get it quite often (server does not provide enough data for very large screen). Also if you have connection problems or server is lagging you can see that sometimes while running or riding horse in a traight line and then changing direction by ~90 degrees.

Is it the same? The loading background is on white and much larger and a looser pattern.
This is on a specific gold background, looks like pubic hair, and has a status (untouched -> touched).

My theory is that when you find the “edge” you can “touch” it by interacting with it, then it becomes... the slightly more yellow sponge. I wonder what the closest civ to the edge was.

It's not "end of the map" edge. Its "this part didn't load yet because your connection is to slow" edge.

Wrong, check the v28/v29 forum post. It is end of the map edge

Pretty easy to see it if you run your own test server and forceEveLocation in the server settings.

But yes, it is different from the "map not loaded" image.
