Problems with horses

I am admittedly new to horses but ive already seen alot of glaring issues with them

* you die to snakes? horse should stomp the snake to death, or at least you should be fine, snake shouldn't kill a player on horses back, i assume wolves and stuff can probably also kill you, feel like you should be immune at the least to these things, maybe not bears

* they constantly run off way too fast, its already been tamed, has a lasso on it, but i can't tie it to trees or mines or anything other than a fence? seems like they ought to just sit mostly still and maybe occasionally wander slowly, not sprint off like its afraid of me soon as i get off. maybe it should even follow you

* you can't put a fence kit in a cart, or horse cart. this makes the above problem worse because you can't even carry an anchor for it. you can put a stanchion kit in a cart, why not a fence kit which should be smaller

* would be convenient to be able to detach the cart from the horse again, especially since it wanders off and im trying to work with the cart. wouldn't matter so much if horse didn't sprint off immediately

not sure if these are known issues, hope they might be addressed at some point

Re: Problems with horses

Totally agree on all of these points, horses have proven to be effectively useless, except as storage due to the fact that carts apparently don't decay when attached to horses. We have had horses for a while now, and they are rarely used as intended, Jason definitely needs to fix this.

However, regarding the fence kit via cart issue, you can place two straight shafts in the cart, plus your adze and shovel if I remember correctly, stone can go in your bag obviously. It is possible to go about creating fences quickly, but it really shouldn't be necessary in my opinion.

At this point Jason just wasted his time making these things overall. Their only use (undecaying carts) was unintended by Jason, which he will probably fix anyway.

Re: Problems with horses

Agreed to horse problems! Also particularly frustrating as the worst issue should be a relatively easy fix.

I'm cool with the game punishing forgetful players by having the horse run away if they leave it alone for too long, but why does it happen immediately? You should have time to unload the cart, harvest resources on screen etc before the horse goes wandering off. Having it leave immediately is just frustrating and useless.

Its particularly annoying as horses could be a really valuable asset if done correctly. Imagine how great they would be for long range resource gathering if they actually worked? Also they could be used to set up trading routes between advanced towns.

Why can't we tie horses to trees?

Re: Problems with horses

i made some pull requests to implement some of the changes i listed above

tamed horses won't run off, instead they slowly follow you, also you don't die if they step on wild animals like snakes

Re: Problems with horses

they actually run circles
lag annoys me cause it runs the moment you redo click by lag so you basically need to let go once and click fast second time, you need adze, shovel, stone, sharp stone, stakes, drop, do one action and jump back on, make the fence kit, install it to strategic zones

you  can still use it to fill cisterns or carry muflon meat, berry bowls, much faster, some lifes i only made 8 berry bowls, with horse, same city i made like 20 under minutes

horse cart, and a fence near the well, one near a cistern can be very good now if you got the buckets

This will be the future, well horse runs to deep wells with little markers for the paths. Water gather rate is insane now that we can hold much more per trip.
