Can the sprinkler system go upwards?

The sprinkler system seems to go west by default. If I want to add a bend at the end to water another row, the upward bend seems to stop the sprinkler (https://onetech.info/4391-South-to-Eastward-Pipe-Elbow)

so the only practical setup is then:

|_ _ _ < _ _ _(pump)
|
|_ _ _ _ > _ _
                    |
_ _ _ < _ _ _ |

So the farm has to extend below the town buildings, right?

water from spray sprinkler is infinite(as long it can move along pipes), if water could go up ,players would make loop and water farms forever.

It goes one way downward and if you mix the pipes up they get clogged
