a very berry problem

(see what I did their)
So this has to do with the amount of berries, spreading through towns.... the thing is is that I played the Koch family this morning (for me at least) their were, 5 3*3 berry bushes, and from what I learned form the Forms, I was just working on removing them, I was able to get rid of 2 of these patches and replaced them with wheat and corn, to stop people from infiltrating with berries again (I was going to get a third patch but someone watered and soiled them, so I just spent the rest of my life milking the cow)

Now when I played this later this evening (for me at least)
the changes, that I had made had been reversed and the bushes had resumed their 5 3*3 form.

so I am looking for advise, how do we keep this from happening, how do we stop the spread of berries?

Re: a very berry problem

Maybe by having things be visually different. Such as have the berries 3x3 surround the well then have the walkway outside of that ring be 2 wide then outside of that ring have the non-berry patches be a different shape like 4x2.

Re: a very berry problem

did a 4x2 ended up 4x5x2+12 random bushes above it

man I hate that 3x3 designs by now

if you plant any other crops especially the ones that get used up, then they will be gone and they just plant it

the best is to floor it down and put some bear rugs maybe, then it won't be removed
in the rift we had this totally random right side fire and baby zone, even if it was in the worst location ever, it was the longest-standing structure
was really annoying cause people run there back and forth covering the smithy

but you got to admit it was not removed for quite long
I was even killed when I tried totally moving it

the other thing seems to be buildings. When they cannot extend further without keeping symmetry, people seem to give up the extending or others will repair it eventually.
The only reason Voltaire town had way fewer berries then Jones and Jijon, cause a stone building was blocking it on the bottom, so they went for 4 parcels only.

When I made my outpost, the first thing was flooring, then tree planting then sheep pen, some lazy asses will always rip up floor before making any new ones so might be a good idea to use some for  a small bakery. Growing organically never meant nice designs, if you focus on tech advancement, the city gets uglier and uglier over time.

That's why preplanned cities are  bit better, people will still do their projects but if you put flooring, 1 space, treeline or wall or fence then they won't remove it if wouldn't fit a similar size field. SO try to block it all sides with something

kinda sad that berry is a central thing. So yeah, flooring and walls can block it, generally, people keep it at one spot, even if that doesn't make sense. If you can't make proper floors then use pine or plant pine trees (they give a needle and can be cut fast for firewood and cheap floors)

Actually berries are neccesary to be in center, easiest to pick up or learn how to tend them, when u catch fever you will run into berries in hope someone will feed u.

Re: a very berry problem

cant we just have 7 carrot tiles and seed row somewhere else? like inside a fence with drying corn
I hate when people leave 14-21 seeds, especially half rows then plant all of them

nobody needs that much

I'm also really not a fan of the new 3x3 area for compost. Having to carry every basket of soil over to the farm makes no sense to me, it's so much easier to make compost the way it used to be by having one next to each farm. It's not as pretty but it's far more convenient and easier for new players to find.

I agree. Compost is much more convenient and easier to find while in the farm. Sure, not as visually appealing but it's a pain to carry baskets of soil around.

Re: a very berry problem

We should just dig out the middle berry and put compost on middle big_smile

what would appeal to me visually is leaving 2 or 3 wide roads between each farm. 3 would be best for extra storage on middle every second tile
2 would have at least double the empty tiles to put down or swap items

with boards I understood, you had to choose between berry farm and kitchen
but with pine is little to no cost making wide roads between farms

why don't we have lines now? one road between each berry bush
or checkboard pattern
or at least 2x2 groups

Re: a very berry problem

People are slow to adopt change and removing berries is slow, thankless work.    However, a well organized farm is a beautiful thing.   Definitely worth the extra effort.

Re: a very berry problem

I had a topic in github, so not sure I was the reason for the change or someone else. made no sense to use water to remove a bush since you lose 17-20 pips (berry, bowl of berry yum chain) by not fixing it.

So he changed it but instead of replacing water to another item, he also removed the timer, like the fence removal mallett+time+shovel kinda the same and would work here.

Instead, he added hungry work now.
Jason logic: griefer removing bushes to starve the city, let's make it hungry work so he can eat the rest of the berry faster.

This is a fixes-update Weak. We might persuade him to fix the berries as well.
