One benefit of swords....

I was in a town trying to get help building a road to the oil. Someone had made a diesel pump but no oil well? So I was making the road and needed my kids to help me.

I kept finding swords so just to keep them from lying around I put them in my kids bags. Boy oh boy did that make them excited about staying. And I get it, it's fun to have a cool-looking new item. I gave all three of my kids found swords and they all were eager to help with the road and couldn't kill me. Good enough.

Not really, Turning steel rods into swords is the next big griefing method. Poor engine makers.

Re: One benefit of swords....

I mean I'd rather that I didn't find 3 swords in that town. I need pipes for the oil well... but since I can't melt them using them to make kids happy is better than nothing.

I could have tried to hide them I suppose. But then I don't know who'd find it. Leaving a sword in the wilds outside your town seems pretty stupid. Some stranger stumbles on your town and has the means to kill you all right there.

Also, I thought about fences, like using fences to make a sword safe, but fences decay. If they go in bags like knives I'd like to keep them there ideally in my families bags not some randos.

It's kinda weird that it's made from a cold steel rod that you hit with a hammer, would make more sense if it was made from a hot steel blade blank that you hit with a hammer.

Or at least make it that you need to hammer a HOT steel rod. That alone would slow down the rod-snatchers who want to make a cool sword for no damn reason and doom their town to having no water.

Right, didnt think about that.

I guess it's fine... just thought it was weird since steel requires to be hot to be shaped unlike copper.

Re: One benefit of swords....

IMO it should be hot steel rod under newcomen hammer to get hot sword blank, then you'd have to quench it in a bucket of palm oil which would consume the whole bucket. Swords are ridiculously powerful, so it makes sense that they should be hard to make.
