Policing is a rather limited job and not really needed in a small town running around with a bow "looking for troublemakers" is a great way to become a trouble maker by accident or out of boredom.
I propose a new job:
Town Safety Officer:
-makes pads and needle and thread
-may make anti-venom if time
-has knife in pack or apron
-knows who else has knives, takes knives from babies
-melts extra knives
-secures bow and arrow in fenced area or good easy to watch spot
-goes on patrol to kill boars, bears, wolves, snakes near town to reduce injuries
-cures any injuries from these animals or bad stabbings and arrows (though preventing these from happening matters more)
-builds "cross" hospital zone in the center of town, keeps it stocked with supplies
That's a whole job. The big change is I think our medics need to focus on prevention too.

A good safety officer focuses on education and prevention over lethal force.
Remind people to never run with a knife in their hand and to make sure that their work area is clear before cutting bread to prevent accidental stabbings. And for cart safety, watch out for rattlesnakes while riding in a horse cart in the desert and be sure to bring a spare rope so you can flip the cart upright if it crashes. It is also important to teach about proper fire safety - always keep a bucket of water near the fire in case of emergency and don't leave dry straw just laying around close to a large fast fire. Only you can prevent forest fires.

Anti-venom's pretty useless since if you have a knife, you can just go around killing nearby snakes. Imo, I think the more knives you have in a town, the better. If you only have two knives in town and one of them belongs to a murderer, chances go down of stopping them because you need to search town and ask the only other person with a knife to come and stab them. The more knives that exist in town, the more jobs that can be done and the more likely someone will be able to stop a griefer.

I made the hospital in the middle of the town besides the central fire which was used as a nursery.
Two pad bowls, one hidden. Ideally the med station should be nearby sheep/nursery AND town centre.
Why? The medic/cop SHOULD NOT multitask, and should be around the areas which are griefed most often. They should also not run around aimlessly.
Sheep and people, easy to be griefed...
Middle location so, as to minimise running distance from griefed location to med station and to have eyewitnesses nearby.
There is a thing as too many cooks in the kitchen, we can easilly afford 1-2 ideally 2 people to stand sentry at key griefing locations and put all their attention into it.
No normal person has enough attention to be an efficient worker and watch out for griefers.
Reminder, it takes less time than a second to pull out a knife and stab somebody...

It's good if every responsible person has a knife, but the issue is players do not think about passing that knife on and what happen when they die. They put packs with knives on babies, or die and let anyone snatch it up.
So If I find a knife and most of the working people seem to have one I melt it.
As far as I can tell most griefers can't make knives, most constructive players can.
Agree that anti-venom is kinda useless, and hard to make. It eats up a whole sheep skin and rope. So maybe scratch that.

I like the hidden pads. Ambivalent about "looking for griefers" I've seen a few over zelous self- appointed town police and I can't really blame them. If you are looking for someone to shoot you'll find someone even if they maybe aren't totally a griefer... but they did spam faces as a kid and by god they are carrying an ax out of town... oh wait they are just chopping the bad trees.
(The only curse I have is from such a cop who thought the way I was chopping trees was suspicious... the town didn't really belive her so no one else cursed me but I died anyway.)

Also a horse is a million times more useful than antivenom...
I mean you aren't wrong but that's because of the steps requires + item requirements. Since Jason has already introduced magic might as well make anti-venom actually usable in some state or another lel.

I think that knives on their own are neither good nor bad. It all depends on the people holding them.
That being said, the right number of knives is related to the population and level of development in your town. A knife on the ground is a potential safety hazard from people picking it up by mistake and "setting it down" on an occupied square. Or from a noob griefer getting their hands on an easy tool for destruction and getting inspired to commit a crime of opportunity. In a small camp or village, one or two knives is enough, because the population is small so finding more responsible adults with backpacks to hold onto the knives can be tricky. If the town only has four adults and two backpacks, you do not need five knives.
In a big town with lots of clothing and packs, you can have a lot more knives, because responsible people armed with knives are safer than responsible people armed with a single curse token. As long as all knives are kept secured and passed on to younger adults carefully (not to babies), the larger quantity of knives is fine. Just be aware that if the town population starts to decline, spare knives should be recycled or stored in a box/basket near knife-related work stations.
Knives left on the ground are potentially dangerous, so they need to be stored appropriately or dismantled.

I now refuse to store a knife in any location but a backpack apron or shorts. If I can't find someone to take it then I won't put it in a box because that breaks the chain of custody, you don't know who will pick it up. I used to think a knife in a box in the kitchen could be OK... but no longer. Now if I see that I put it in my bag, look for someone to take it or break it down for steel.

Its biggest flaw is transportability and the fact that if you'll encounter snakes;
you'll be traveling alone most likely.
you'll be far away from camp since snakes only exist in boot form in large towns.
you will get bit and be unable to apply it to yourself if you somehow decided to carry antivenom with yourself.
you will be in a starting camp before the snakes got eradicated but there is no antivenom.
antivenom is stored in a bowl, not like that matters though.
there's...quite a few things wrong with antivenom lol...

Police shouldn't walk around with knife or bow in hand, no one should. Keep knife in backpack and keep bow hidden.
